Hitch bears to boats. 4 bears able to be hitched to the front of a ship. They swim rather well and pretty quick. They could give that extra boost on those windless days.

why not just ride a croc? they swim and you can archer while mounted on them

 Feed 'em a lot of rotted fish and they could generate a lot of added wind too. Not that I am being suggestive of anything either.
