[Issle's book of Chaos] Combat analysis of SoH battle.

Recommended Posts

The local flashes white with enemy names. The heart starts pounding hard. It tries to push more blood into the muscles to prepare you for a deadly combat situation or a deadly retreat. What a faulty mechanism to have in the modern world. Nobody is gonna die for real in a digital game, nobody needs that extra blood going. Yet it's there. Makes one wonder how many other things we take for granted, imprinted on our genes, acting up on instinct but not needed now that we don't live in caves anymore. But it's just a natural reaction. A natural reaction, because you've done a deadly mistake and you now clearly see it. You are in the bottom of the valley ...

SoH, stands for South of Heaven. It used to be a Black Legion village. Before that it used to be another village named Fort BoS. SoH is located north of the Black Legion capital Commorragh probably two locals away. During winter of 2015, the Mol Rehan armies were hitting the village repeatedly for a month and going. One day, warriors from Black Legion, including Kingen, Maciejkow, Wendigo and Issle decided to go defend the village during an attack that was devastating for the future of the Black Legion lands. The attacker force included between others the Champion Garrettwademan and the Chei of Mol Rehan Emoo.

The issue with defending South of Heaven was that the Mol Rehan armies were already there surrounding the village but having their main force located on the east side. The Black Legion players plan was to avoid engaging the enemy outside the village as they would have a great dissadvantage on the field of battle while riding in from the south. Instead they decided to quickly ride past the enemy force and regroup inside the village's safety before they engage them.

The Black Legion force departed from Commorragh. While riding north towards SoH, Garrettwademan was located south of the village alone on his horse while the rest of the Mol Rehan force was on the east side, catapulting and trying to breach into the village. A decision was made to change the plan and instead of quickly going into the village to avoid getting intercepted outside, the Black Legion group decided to fight the Champion of Magranon Garrettwademan as he was alone against four or five of them. The champions horse went down pretty fast and the chosen kids of Libila started picking apart the Champion. Once he went to hurt though, he put out his LT weapon and started healing up by killing the enemy horses.

Them horses being unarmored, gave back a great portion of HP to the Mol Rehan champion and that together with his 60% damage reduction made it very difficult for Black Legion to take him down. During this fight though the clock was ticking for the defenders. As they have abandoned the initial plan, they were not exposed to an interception by the main forces of Mol Rehan and Garrettwademan has made sure to stay alive long enough for his allies to come help him. When Black Legion realized what a mistake that was, they tried to flee into the village with as many horses they have left.

Time was against them. Not just time, but terrain too. The area between SoH and Commorragh is a valley and the fight against the Magranon's champion took place right in the middle of it, the point with the lowest altitude. Horses are fast going down a hill. That doesn't happen when they go upwards. Heading into SoH would be viable even during such a situation if the terrain was flat.

But it wasn't.

I am going to write a series of combat and siege reports from the past, highlighting mistakes made by either me, my kingdom or the enemies. It's quite amusing to look back into your past and figure out what you've done right but most importantly what you've done wrong. At the end of the day, it's an amuzing story for all of us.

I doubt it was a trap. You were raiding like this for days and it was already 2 hours into the raid. You couldn't possibly know we were coming. Since you weren't there as far as I remember, you may be reffering to a previous battle between SoH and Comm that I heard about but didnt attend.

iirc, Garrettwademan stealthed further down, popped out of stealth and fought your entire group without his helmet on... was only afterwards he noticed xD

So... you guys didn't see the group of us coming up from the south, where we had been stealthed, and watched your group pass by and head up to SoH?  More trappy than a girl named brian.

Nope we didn't see that group at all. SoH had been under siege for a whole week. We picked a random day to come intercept the attackers. You couldn't possibly know it. Unless ... Interesting. Thanks for the info ;)
