Add cosmetics to the shop

Recommended Posts

Instead of res stones, the ingame shop could sell cosmetic overides for certain armor types, or other clothing items that aren't craftable. Maybe the overides could have cooldowns, so they require a recursive payment.

Only if it is a limited amount and they aren't considerably better looking than other ingame items.

Also they shouldn't work on Chaos/Epic/Challenge.

Why not? And if they weren't better looking, noone would pay extra money for them.

They can be better looking, but only slight, otherwise that creates a huge gap between what you can make and what you can just buy from the Wurm store. Whole idea of Wurm is that almost everything is player made.

People would still pay money for something different looking.

Also if they worked on Chaos etc, how would you know what an enemy is wearing? Unless of course each item could only have a certain set of overrides. In that case, you'd need different overrides for glimmer/steel/ada etc.

i dont get why we should be buying stuff like this in the shop...

instead, why not add different kinds of plate armour and hemets for example. helmets with a face or helmets representing an animals head would be awesome. if stuff like this would be added i think they should be very hard to make, so that such a plate armour would still be unique

heres an example of gotic plate (top) and maximilian plate armour(bottom). these german masterpieces would also be alot more expensive then your ordinary plate armour. and if im not mistaken the so called fluting or ridges in the armour would strengthen the plates, so they could also give some more protection then the normal plate

Dapperdan, the point is so Rolf makes more money, and it doesn't make the game ptw. Rolf could learn from Team Fortress 2, which makes all its money from cosmetic purchases.

Also, making the special armor sets be stronger than the vanilla sets would kinda be ruining the point of making the game less ptw...

This doesn't have to stop at wearable items either. The shop could sell unique statues, kingdom banners for extinct pmks or cross server kingdoms, and badass weapon overides that only change appearance. Maybe there could be a buyable item which removes snow in the winter for those people that keep conplaining about it...

Perhaps instead of cosmetic overides, the shop could sell the uniquely modeled items, but at 1ql so they still have to be imped and enchanted.

Lots of things can be sold - things that won't create an advantage over other players, but instead it will just add to the fun in the game.  Many people already pay for Wurm with real life money, in terms of deeds and how many chars you have, if you buy rares and imped tools and high ql armour etc.  Of course this also means that players willing to part with more of their real life money will get some advantage other players won't have, for example, they can afford larger deeds, weapons with rare ql and high enchants, faster horses, more chars e.g. priests who can cast stuff and make more money in game, and so forth. The argument that selling cosmetic stuff (like green hat gnomes) in the shop will create some "imbalance" is flawed because of the reasons I stated.  There are lots of advantages though, for example, money infused into the game, people getting hooked on what is offered and playing more or longer because of it, and the sheer joy of buying something you really like (retail therapy).

If they'll buy stupid statues from those PvP only deals they'll buy this too.

How about you can buy the recipe for cosmetic items from the shop?

So crafters who are willing to spend the money can make items that Wurmians can buy in game.

Rolf gets money, players spend and earn silver.

Buying recipes makes the most sense in the bigger context.  Could still have "draconian" skill reqs on the better stuff.

I see the basic premise of the OP as a positive one, that being to add some other purchasable items to the Wurm Shop. To purchase these items then the player must pay the Wurm Shop directly, which increases the potential for game income that can't be bypassed by other players offering these items for a cheaper price and thus undercutting potential game income.

Right now only two things can be purchased from the Wurm Shop, premium time and silver coins, both of which can be obtained from other players for a cheaper price. Although it makes little sense for a profitable game this is the way things are. What makes even less sense though, is to not offer any other exclusive items that can be purchased from the Wurm Shop. A lot of missed income opportunity there.

Also, any of these types of items that in the future may be purchased from the Wurm Shop should be *character bound*, which will prevent them being sold to other player characters in game. Point being to introduce exclusive Wurm Shop items for game income. Can't or won't pay for them, you don't get them. Simple. Bye, bye...
