This is Totally Unacceptable

Recommended Posts

This is a typical session on WURM in the land of Xanado. Each of these is a disconnect;

Here I came back to find I'm being attacked by a spider. Took some damage and was unable to target the spider because I was still lagging after an auto reconnect

ScreenHunter_07Feb061106_zps3cc43db4.jpg

So I manually disconnected only to find I had managed to get away from the spider but was being attacked by a lava fiend and my view was the usual, OMG a RED tunnel. I did get away and called some guards. Notice all the teleporting garbage AFTER I logged back on.

Got tired of it all after the last disconnect and logged off.

Now I don't care who you are this is totally UNACCEPTABLE. Imagine being a noob and experiencing this. Exactly how long do you think they would stick around and put up with it? Whose fault is it? It falls squarely at Rolf's feet. It's his responsibility to see that the game runs smoothly. I don't care if it's his ISP's problem, his host's problem or his server's problem. In the end it's HIS fault. He is at the head of the table and it's HIS responsibility to fix it.

Well wait a few months and everyone will be gone and your lag will be fixed. Have to agree, its driven lots of players back to the old servers.

Three years ago, during my first steps in wurm, I bought an expensive 16 silver Gumbo longsword, a horse and armor. I went out on adventure hunting creatures in Independence. After a while my router crashed and I disconnected from the server while fighting a spider. When I logged back in, I was dead. Only thing; I didnt know where I really was since I ventured very far away from populated lands.

Till this day, the Gumbo sword along with all my other gear is still missing in action.

Seems to me three years ago there were a lot fewer disconnects. /me hides Sizzle's lost longsword and armor.

I like how the Xanado server is so large so I probably would never leave but the discons are annoying to say the least. Just glad I'm not a noob.

Nah, I only report serious news that have integrity and quality. Like:

Which high profile Chaos player's girlfriend is complaining that he's playing too much Wurm ?

Is Rolf really playing in Mol Rehan ?

And did Sparta actually disband or does it still exist in a secret underground mine facility along with Atlantis ?

Always asking questions, the important ones ... -.-'

Right. There's a packet loss only when I play WURM but when I play EVE or WoW the packet loss magically vanishes. I'll bet you my router has a personal grudge against WURM. Or maybe my cable provider hates Rolf.

dont worry rolf doesnt seem to care at all that over half of his player base has regular dc issues at certain times throughout the day for me its 6:23am till 12:42pm (gmt+13 due to summer time) but hey its not like he gives a dam right that the dc issue is spreading to more and more people :/

Here, I was about to go on a massive technical rant, But i deleted it. so heres some intructions.

So, Heres what you guys need to do, Windows specific btw:

-Go find out what a "tracert" is, Find out how to use it and do it. im not gonna explain it here

-Send the results to Rolf [Post the logs on like pastebin.com or something], Or email the dev team the info

-Done and wait.

Now, If rolf can do anything about it, He could try, Otherwise, Your just gonna have to wait for the machine thats causing the connectivity problems to be fixed.

EDIT: Yes, For those about to go "OH THIS IS JUST SERVER LAG U TWIT" yes, but this is connection issues were talking about, not server lag.

Instructions don't really look like 'go figure out tracert'

Well if i put full intructions on how to do it here, People will probably mess up and do something they shouldnt. Therefor i put it a simple set of instructions & easy reference for those tech savvy people out there who can do it right.

Stormblade is right. Chances are, it's either on your end, or coming from one of the hosts between you and the Wurm servers. To find out exactly where it's happening, do this:

open a command prompt. Type or copy/paste the following:

pathping freedom007.game.wurmonline.com >>c:/pathping.txt

This will run a traceroute, then ping each host that your connection path uses 100 times. It can take up to 10 minutes to complete, depending on how many hosts it needs to ping. It will write the output to a text file called pathping.txt in your C:/ drive (you can change this if you want).

Open the text file and paste its contents here for us to scrutinize, or examine it yourself. Pathping will tell you where packet loss is occurring, and whether it is the host itself that is dropping packets (because it is overloaded), or if it's the physical connection between hosts that is causing problems. This diagnosis will allow you to direct your efforts towards fixing the problem at its source, which is probably not the Wurm servers.

Was trying to avoid this, Oh well. There yah go everyone, he posted it, GL everyone. [Tho a tracert is quicker]

Traceroute is faster, but only because it only pings each host 4 times by default, and makes no distinction between link and host packet loss. Pathping will give a clearer picture of what is happening, which is what we need for diagnostic purposes.

becauuuuuse they are NOT using the same servers, from the same companies at the same locations. And wurm probably uses a cheaper service than gigants like Eve or WoW.

So it could be possible that your connection to the servers that are provided for wurm is not as good as to those from eve and wow.

I mean...you wouldn't blame your mom for cooking bad food, if she bought the ingredients from someone who put some bad stuff in it?

I am playing on Xanadu at different time of the day and the only problem i've got is a minute of lag during the backup at 9pm (and a really low FPS but i will not blame Rolf for not buying me a new computer).

I have already been disconnected the way you were but it was coming from my ISP.

Before complaining publicly on the forum, have you tried to contact the support via the right section of the forum ?

LMFAO. You were saying?

In all fairness I should add that the 100% packet loss at Hetzner may not reflect the real story since there is no packet loss at WURM. If there were really a 100% loss at Hetzner then it should be the same at WURM if I recall. But for some reason there is a problem at Hetzner but not at any of the other hops. This is a consistent result no matter how many times I run the test and I have run the test many times over the past few weeks. Why else do you think I would come on here and rant about this? There is a problem that can probably be solved on WURM's end.

Hm, I see no problems there. The 100% packet loss at the 15th hop is simply because that host has a policy to ignore ping requests, which is normal.

So, obviously, this test did not reproduce the problem. Try the following:

ping freedom007.game.wurmonline.com -l 1024 -n 100

This will send large packets to the server - the normal size is 32 bytes and these are 1024 bytes. If this ping request comes back clean, then run this:

ping freedom007.game.wurmonline.com -t

Leave this running WHILE playing Wurm. Every time you get disconnected, check the command prompt to see if any packets are being lost at the same time.

Whatever the case may be, the problem might lie with your ISP. This sounds dumb, but bear with me for a moment: try contacting your ISP (online chat is fastest if they offer it) and ask them to refresh your service on their end. I suggest this because, if you had any hardware changes or loss of power to your modem, your ISP may have reassigned your modem's MAC to another IP, resulting in a mismatch in their system. Many ISP's have a policy to allow such connections, but limit their service by cutting them off temporarily when they exceed a certain bandwidth on certain protocols, especially for uploads.

Look, if it's my ISP I would have problems with EVERYTHING. I don't. Just intermittently with WURM. All the hops are clean. Contrary to what some of the replies contend. Time after time after time. The only problem I have is with WURM. If everything else runs fine but one thing doesn't that should imply to a reasonable person that the one thing that doesn't run fine has a problem. This board is a haven for royalty, Kings of de Nile.

Getting random lag spikes here too, and that's from Panama so doubt it's his ISP.

Everyone knows the cause of this, same thing that has been causing it and popping up on tracerts for the last several months  now, Wurm's german hosts Hetzner like to throttle the game's traffic
