Salutes

Recommended Posts

So we dont have any emote or animation for saluting. Not even with a weapon in hand:

Course theres all manners of saluting ranging across various cultures and times:

Heck dont even need a blade persay. Theres the so-called Greco-Roman salute to cite one example:

Although, theres no historical evidence to support the Romans or Greeks using any such salute. Most depictions of Romans or Greeks saluting in this manner date centuries after their respective empires fell. Earliest known depiction is this painting in 1784 AD. From there later works and popular culture attributed it to the Greeks and then Romans.

Of course there's the modern version:

Each "Salutes" you are saying has a simbolic mean, and use it in a "profane" game can be an insult for some people that believe in that.

i.e. Roman Salute, Nazist Salute, etc...

People, old people especially, can feeling insult with that

Indeed symbolism changes across cultures and time, especially given the context the symbol or gesture is used in. For example a simple thumbs up gesture can mean "A-Okay", "its good", or "Good spot. Drop it right there." The same gesture in certain other countries, say ones in South America, is the equivalent of "flipping someone the bird". That gesture in turn can mean something else entirely somewhere else.

When I had general psychology and sociology studies (major was actually Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics, the college believed in a very well-rounded education), the doctor teaching had spent much of his youth as a merchant mariner. He would recount a story of when he was signaling a local crane operator. To signal the load was lined up fine, the teacher unknowingly flipped his thumb up for "Good". The native-borne operator apparently had a short temper, came down in a huff, and things nearly came to blows.

Anyways, Wurm doesnt even to need copy anything being used in RL. Could use something fairly madeup, like that goofy three finger salute the Hunger Games uses (anything but that please XD).

Although Im not aware of the sword salute in front of oneself with the sword held perpendicular to the ground, blade up having any negative connotations. Sometimes even starts or finishes with a flourish and blade pointed to the ground. Other hand can being getting all kinds of fancy.

Then again, afaik its mostly a European gesture. Perhaps negative in countries where European countries have a bad reputation.

Aye by no means am I endorsing the so-called Nazi salute.

Plus being able to toggle a bassinet helm open or shut would be awesome, even if it didnt change the eye protection respectively
