Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Not sure how to describe it. It's not really a normal crash so I didn't post it to the crash page.I played Wurm for a while, and my internet would cut out randomly when playing. My ping in TeamSpeak would shoot up to 800+ and my internet itself would crash. I then have to restart my internet to fix it.I stopped playing Wurm for 2 months and my internet stopped doing this entirely. Now, after starting Wurm in the last week, it happens all the time. My internet only does this if I have a Wurm client open. Not sure how useful this is, as it probably just says "cant find the server"Unable to locate server The error was: <jenn001.game.wurmonline.com> It's possible you might figure out what's wrong from the log file below, but if you can't, post the full log on the wurm online forums, and someone else might be able to help you. Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) I have this wild untested theory that sometimes Wurm sound crashes the client and takes other USB and related hardware devices down with it. Maybe also wireless. This probably only affects a very very small portion of players, and not all in same way (others lose mouse connectivity or something) If you are using a USB headphones that have their own built-in soundcard, can you look around the house for an old fashion set with jacks to test. Also if you are using wireless internet, can you test whether this also happens with a hard cable plugged in. If my theory is correct then when the game's sound code (or maybe some other usb/wireless device) glitvches/crashes it messes up a lot of other devices too. Tracking down which devices might be culprits would be where I start, beginning with USB headphones + anything wireless. If it IS sound (just a wild theory of mine) it is also possible switching the wurm launcher > Settings > Sound > Sound Engine from hard to soft (or reverse) MIGHT help. I don't think it will help but it is easiest place to start. It probably happens on a very random basis that is hard to reproduce ... some days all is fine and other days it happens a lot. Posted February 2, 2015 I played Wurm for a while, and my internet would cut out randomly when playing. My ping in TeamSpeak would shoot up to 800+ and my internet itself would crash. I then have to restart my internet to fix it. I stopped playing Wurm for 2 months and my internet stopped doing this entirely. Now, after starting Wurm in the last week, it happens all the time. My internet only does this if I have a Wurm client open. Not sure how useful this is, as it probably just says "cant find the server" Much problems and no analysis. 1. Are you using extra hardware (i.e. Wireless internet router) or you plug cable directly into your computer? 2. Wneh you are not playing (or dropped) wurm, did you have same problem with other online games? If both answers are Yes, I would suggest checking your router. Because it can work normally in "average" conditions - internet surfing, youtube and so on, but crashes due to stable network bandwidth utilization. Maybe it's overheating, maybe it is glitch in firmware.
Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) When I don't have Wurm open, I don't have the problem. I can use my internet for a day without Wurm open without it crashing, but it's crashed at least 10 times today alone because I've been on Wurm all day.I use a USB adapter with a wireless router. Posted February 2, 2015 wireless router. Get some UTP 5cat LAN cable and connect your computer via LAN. At least you'll find out what is bugged - your wi-fi USB adapter or wireless router.
Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) I second the motion, plus it is pretty cheap and at least people will stop bringing it up if you rule it out.I always forget the difference between Cat5 Cat5e Cat6 bit I think Cat6 is better and still dirt cheap $3 with free shipping there are ones super short (1 foot) and ones super long (75 foot) too, so pick out a convenient length, shorter is better. If you are the sort to go outside, there are probably stores in town that sell it too. Stores sometimes cost more but its faster. (Googled Cat5 Cat5e Cat6 and apparently it is a hot debate with many saying Cat6 is stupid overkill and unnecessary and overpriced but hey for $3 free shipping how overpriced can it be?)Anyway vasisuelle sounds much more educated on the issue so if he prefers Cat5, listen to him not me I am just a hobbyist who understands only 10 percent of anything. Posted February 2, 2015 Can other devices still use internet when it stops working at your pc?
Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) I've known others had problems with their connections because of wurm too. One close friend of mine had similar problems and quit because of it. Looking back to our discussions, it was something about wurm servers flooding her router with lots of inquiries. The router would log everything and then have problems working. It would resume working normally when the logs were cleared but that wouldn't last long. Posted February 12, 2015 Don't you have a TP-Link branded router? The wireless seems unstable under heavy load in some of their models although works fine if you connect via cable. Anyway a good step is to test with wifi off and connected via utp to rule out this root cause

I have a tp-link router, and sometimes rarely or very often I'll get the weird high lag spikes while playing, but crashing needing a full manual restart of router is more rare (once a week or two). Wired isn't possible for me, not sure if capping the down (and up?) speeds for Wurm would help with that?
Posted February 12, 2015 Mine started doing this yesterday. Wurm would lag for a while and suddenly my modem would desync. It happened a couple times this morning. I have been cursing my ISP under my breath and they run a test and tell me my connection is beyond advertised specifications. It has only happened while playing Wurm and only in the early hours US time. This morning I gave up, closed Wurm at the restart this morning, and went to Netflix and it has not happened since. The modem is desyncing and wired and wireless is going out. After it synchs up again, everything comes back online. 30 minutes or so later, it will be knocked completely off again. I don't think it is the Wurm client itself but not really sure what it is outside of that. Note to the post above, no other USB devices are dropping but my wireless router has had to be reset also via the troubleshooter. It's a really strange event. Wired isn't possible for me, not sure if capping the down (and up?) speeds for Wurm would help with that? Not sure if the speed capping helps, I would rather suspect the packet numbers or similar exhausting poor router's brain. It is quite common that these routers work fine for browsing etc. but when users start to use intensive apps like VPN they fail often - and mostly wireless only, cable keeps running fine. Customer grade router wifi controllers seem to wear off in a few years, I'm using my 3rd router at home myself (same issues, random disconnects, drop on speed, etc. until router reboot). Disclaimer: All above is highly untechnical/perception based, I have no technical proof of any theory and based on my long years support experience only

Note to the post above, no other USB devices are dropping but my wireless router has had to be reset also via the troubleshooter. It's a really strange event. If the modem drops the connection and reconnects frequently usually it is a modem fault or cable contact. I had full spec connection usually but experienced net dropouts, as later noticed usually in high winds. It turned out that the incoming cable connection was faulty on the pole next to the house. Not an easy task to get the ISPs moving on these errors, I know :S
Posted February 12, 2015 They were out this past summer and put a new wire from the pole to the house and replaced the box on the side of the house. It took them 7 months to get to it after a very bad wind storm in January last year pulled the box from the house and it laid in the yard the whole time. I don't really think it is related to what the OP is experiencing but it only happens while I am in Wurm. But then, I usually play Wurm late in the night here while the rest of the world in my small town has rolled up the sidewalks and barred the doors so if it is something out there happening when the rest of the world sleeps and the least are inconvenienced by it, who knows? It's really hard from my end to tell if the lag starts at the host and creeps backwards or starts right outside my back door. In both cases, the pings start to deteriorate in Boston or DC (flavor of the day ??) for me and just get worse in Europe. Many times Frankfurt level3.net is the brick wall I hit. Posted February 12, 2015 If started yesterday only let's hope it is a temp routing issue then - I could not reach wurmonline.com or the game at all last evening (using T-Home HU DNS server). I had to reconfigure my router to use the DNS server of UPC Hungary to be able to connect. It seems there are some DNS issues in Europe atm...
