Ropemaking

How is it that ropemaking - the more you do it - the worse off you get?       


 


I don't get it.


 


I strugled thru almost 3 days (12+ hours a day) to get my rope tool above 40, during those 3 days I made over 400 bow strings as I watched my ropemaking skill drop from 4 per bow string down to 1 per bow string and I'm only at ropemaking skill level 11+ .


 


I have to make 20 at least to make Cordage rope to finish me first sail boat.


 


What gives? Is Ropemaking the heart of the game?


 


Everything works the more you do the Better You Get.


 


Except Ropemaking - The more you practice the worse you get.

Skillgains always decrease as the skill goes up, going from 4 ticks per bowstring down to 1 is totally normal, not understanding the issue

and if you mean ql of strings, wemp fiber ql and tool ql also affect it.


 


but it is extremely random anyways especially at those lower levels,


and only gets a little better at higher skill.


 


on my priest at 78 ropemaking i average like 35ql to 40ql if im lucky


with 65ql ropetool and 85+ql wemp fiber.


 


dont worry about ql of tool and wemp and start doing regular ropes as soon


as you can and only worry about ql of tool and wemp when going for the


cordage.

At Aetherwalker: I spent some time read the skill gains - 50% that is max. and it goes down from there. wow


 


At Griffith: I built a rowboat and ship transporter i am waiting to get Lead to make the Anchor before taking it to sea.


I built my sail boat I have it all done except for the 2 cordage ropes that go on the triangular rig. I guess the question is -


Why is that 2 cordage rope is required when a mooring rope (or some similer rope) would be just fine.


Save the cordage rope for the Corbita, Cog, Knarr, Caravel that follow.

I am going for cordage rope so early in the game on a sail boat. I dont see anything else using ropes - just boats. (rope fences?)

After typing a reply explaining why I didn't understand what you mean, I think I've just figured it out.


 


As well as your skill, the QL of your ropetool affects your % chance to make a rope. If you never repair and re-improve it you're % chance to make a rope will decrease due to the drop in QL of your ropetool. Re-imp your ropetool and you'll find that you are actually better at making ropes ;)

hmm yea the reason i said that is because a lower ropetool ql and wemp ql may


actually help you gain skills a bit faster even though youll fail more.


 


and when going for cordage then imp your ropetool and use the highest ql wemp


you have to improve your chances.


 


on your suggestion, i think is a good one, you can post it in the suggestions thread


if you feel so inclined.


 


p.s. the strings and rope you make you can try and trade for stuff at a trader, or sell em at


a token. if you make enough you may get lucky and find some low ql cordage to trade it


for, but it usually is on the higher end of the price scale, so you would need a lot of ropes


for that :(

If interested, tell me how many cordage ropes you still need and I will send them to you at no charge etc just let me know the char name.


 


If the focus is on finishing that first ship this should help.

On a related note imping net traps with tailoring tools (even use string for imping) is a good way to get more ropemaking skill.


 


Granted one needs cordage rope to make them; however, on the plus side the traps start out at low ql when finished anyways.

I was all excited the other day, was gonna make a few traps for ropemaking skill...

Made three rope traps before i noticed you can't imp them... then I asked for help and was reminded it is net traps, not rope traps! :(

get someone to make you a bunch of net traps and imp them, just keep burning there ql down and imp, continue till you get the wanted skill.
