Posted December 10, 2014 Hello! Just like the tittle implys, I updated my java to version 8 (64 bit) and the client no longer works! After much smooshing uninstalling/reinstalling its still broken. the funny part is that 4 hours ago (before the update) I could run wurm maxed out and it took no more than 3-6 seconds for anything to load. Now it takes 2 hours to reach 68% and when it does get to 100% it just sits there. Re-running the client just makes it restart the updates?
Posted December 10, 2014 Have you got the latest video drivers as well? Wurm runs fine on Java 8 for me.
Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) Some people seem to be having issues on the newest update (Java8update25) but might be ok using instead the earlier Java 8 update 11, and turning off automatic updates for Java. You can see some of the discussions on it here, others are mentioned in other threads. If you want to see if Java 8 update 11 works better for you, try uninstalling Java through Control Panel then get the archived copy of update 11 from here (about the 4-5th one down) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-javase8-2177648.html ** I have been reading about it more and apparently Java 8 updates 20 & 25 both made sp,me other Java games unplayable also (Runescape, some modded Minecraft games) but they say there that update 11 seems ok. So whatever the issue is with java updates 20 & 25, it is not just Wurm players. Also note that it appears those games were able to adjust to the newer java changes (I think?) so whatever the issue is, it may be one we need Wurm devs to also check into. Threads involving modded minecraft & runescape:http://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/2ax59o/psa_dont_update_java_latest_version_breaks/http://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/2fe3sa/psa_java_8_update_20_and_later_is_incompatible/http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2206446-forge-1-6-4-1-7-2-java-8-compatibility-patchhttp://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/modded-client-support/2195824-the-mods-are-killing-me PPSS: this seems to not affect all players just some. What do those affected have in common? I don't know but I hope someone figures it out as it is possible it can be fixed on player side with one change in the game setting options. Posted December 10, 2014 Hmmm - interesting. I'm running update 25 on 3 different machines, 2 Windows 7, and 1 Windows 8.1, and I have had no issues so far. But I have had 2 nVidia driver updates in the past 3 weeks.
Posted December 10, 2014 I had issues too... Win7 x64 and Java8r25 x64 The .jnlp file wouldn't recognise and auto-launch the installation. I worked around this easy enough by using the "Open With" and get to the correct Javaws.exe file to open the launcher. 1. Save the .jnlp File downloaded from the Wurm Website to a Known Location on your hard disk.2. Find the file on your hard disk and "right click" then choose "Open with"3. Click "Browse" which is about two thirds down on the right side of the window, which will then open a "file open Window" 4. When the File Open Window pops up look browse to the correct version of Javaws.exe fileLOCATED AT: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_25\bin\javaws.exe OR IF FOR SOME REASON YOU DIDN'T USE JAVA 64-BIT on 64-BIT WINDOWS IT WILL BE "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_25\bin\javaws.exe"
Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) I use a shortcut that says this: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre8\bin\javaws.exe" http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient.jnlp I think mostly because I used to have issues when the client was updated and my old shortcuts would fail, so this one points to the most currently updated JNLP always. I have my Wurm data files in c:\game\wurm. Edited December 10, 2014 by Brash_Endeavors
Posted December 10, 2014 What *might* be the problem is that if it is there and it can find it Wurm tries to use a 32bit Java. As all normal browsers need a 32bit Java, even if you delete/uninstall to only leave the Java 8 64bit, the next time you fire up your browser it seems to reinstall a 32bit alongside the 64bit - and that definitely gives problems. Unfortunately my understanding isn't complete by a long way - I just know that since i deleted ALL Java except for the Java 8 64bit version it has been fine.
