 SAFER ACCOUNT TRANSFER

 

When transferring an account to another player, you need to take some very important measures in order to make sure your other accounts are safe.

 

Since many accounts may be tied to the same email, you often change the password of all accounts at the same time. This is what happens when you request a new password on the website. There is a password retrieval question and answer. You should change these as well for the account.

 

As such, the most important things you as a seller need to do is:

1. Change the email and password of the account before you give it away.

2. Change the password retrieval question and answer for the account.

It is important to be aware of the legal stance from Code Club (the company that develops Wurm Online) on account sales and transfers:

 

As a player, you don't own the account. The company owns all data on the servers and offer access to a service. If you give the password to someone else you transfer access to that service on your on behalf. We have and can not take any responsibility for such a transaction.

Code Club AB condones account and item sales, as we believe that players have the right to capitalize on their investment in Wurm. However we do not offer our support or services for such activity and will not be held responsible for any remedial action or loss that occurs, as any such activity is entirely at your own risk.
Make sure to change both the password and the e-mail address after purchasing an account from another player. Failing to change these is a frequent cause of account theft.

 

If you do not know how to protect the transaction and any other accounts you have that may be related we strongly suggest you do not go through with it.

 

If you have made a mistake and accounts have been compromised, taken over and possibly even sold further the company has no responsibility for this and can not be made accountable. What you did was give access away against our recommendations.

 

However, if you can make it clear to our support team that access to other accounts was not part of the deal, the company as owners of the data may decide that someone has gained access to accounts they should not have, which is a bannable offense. Therefor in such clear cases we may intervene and return the accounts. Whether there is reimbursement involved depends totally on the situation and whether the following transactions seem trustworthy.

 

The third most important things you as a buyer need to do is 

3. Make sure you're not buying a "compromised account". Buy in forum threads and make sure it's sold by the proper account holder. You may not be reimbursed in case it is returned to the proper account holder.

Please note that the Wurm Online staff should not be used to investigate the legitimacy of any seller/buyer.

4. Make sure you're not buying an account that was temporarily banned at a time. This may have effect on Wurm shop options.

In general it's fairly safe to buy character passwords, especially from known players. As a seller you have to make sure to protect your other accounts.

 

Some final notes:

 

1/ Character names cannot be changed , the name you are buying could have a bad reputation in the community , and you may have problems with ongoing interaction with some players because of it. These problems could also involve KOS on some deeds.
Do not enquire to a CM or GM as to this potential problem as they are not in position to advise you, so it's player beware.

2/ Some characters carry ongoing penalty due to their activities regarding game rule breaking. These penalties will carry over to the new owner, so be careful in this regard.
We do not recognise the new owner of such a character and will process any further rule breaking by that character according to the process as described in the "Game Rules". This also applies to the forum named account of that character.

3/ When buying a Champion character, the buyer has to find out when they lose that status.
