Posted October 6, 2014 Ok so my laptop just couldn't handle wurm anymore so I build a cheap but what I felt would run wurm ok compter. The computer has:AMD FX-4130 ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS 760G AM3+ MB8GM of Kingston HyperX ram Now for video I'm using the Intergrated ATI Radeon HD 3000 GPU, I know this it not a real good GPU but it's what I can afford for now. When I try to lunch the clint I keep getting these crash reports. Could not create window with selected width and height. The error was: <Pixel format not accelerated> It's possible you might figure out what's wrong from the log file below, but if you can't, post the full log on the wurm online forums, and someone else might be able to help you. Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) I think that usually has to do with video drivers so go to the ATI website and get the latest driver for your graphics card http://support.amd.com/en-us/download Edited October 6, 2014 by Kegan
Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) <Pixel format not accelerated> Yes, it is because you are using the generic windows drivers which support their own DirectX but not OpenGL games. Get the newest ones from the ATI site Kegan linked. the Intergrated ATI Radeon HD 3000 GPU is going to run things pretty bad so use lowest settings and maybe look into getting something like this pretty cheap (not great but cheap and will do better than onboard) Edited October 6, 2014 by Brash_Endeavors
Posted October 6, 2014 Also once you have the correct drivers installed, Try setting your game to the same resolution as your desktop if you havent already. Sometimes this helps.
Posted October 6, 2014 Ok installed the drivers as suggested, lowered the settings, and tried changing the resolution to the same as my desktop. No luck guess I'll just have to wait tell I can afford a video card, Thanks for the help Kegan, Brash_Endeavors, and eyerobot!

Did you try to turn off the GLSL shaders on the launcher in settings under the compatibility tab? It might help you get through till you can get a better video card. Posted October 7, 2014 Tried that no luck, also I doubled checked the video drivers seems like windows will not allow me to actually change the drivers. I did download catalyst from AMD but windows is still showing as the driver provider.

Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) I don't know what to tell you then but it does seem odd that it does not show up anywhere. Does it even list it on your device manager on the display adapters? If so you might be able to right click it there and update the drivers but it seems strange that is does not show up...idk Edit: I looked at the AMD site and this is the page you need with windows 8 64 bit the driver is kind of at the bottom of the page under "Latest Beta Driver"..http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%208%20-%2064 Edited October 7, 2014 by Kegan
Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) Some computer makers prevent you from installing drivers direct from the graphics chipmaker, but this is extremely unusual with homebuilt desktop systems like yours. I am not used to Windows 8 so maybe they changed things, they likely prevent "beta" drivers for instance. However the usual workaround is a manual install using the "Have Disk" method (this is from back when we installed drivers using floppy disks; we still call it that even though we no longer use floppies. I think they later removed the words "Have Disk" and it just says BROWSE now, but the procedure is still often called "the HAVE DISK method" if you decide to google for better instructions than mine) You need to download and extract the driver to a folder you can find again, BUT NOT INSTALL IT YET. This is easiest to do with ZIP files but also sometimes possible with EXE (usually by right-click and "extract to..."). Someone may correct me if I get this next part wrong (I am getting old.) I open device manager and delete the old video adapter, then I reboot into Safe mode (may not be necessary) and go back to device driver and update driver but tell it that I want to BROWSE and not let the computer automatically update. Some people recommend using a driver cleaner or CCleaner but I only do that if I continue having issues. then I choose the new folder where I extravced the files, and tell device driver to install from that location. Then I reboot again, and after windows loads I check the date under Device Manager to make sure it "worked" and the new date drivers show. I am not used to Windows 8 so its possible something changed in the procedure. Just make sure the driver shows the new dates and not the generic driver dates. edit: This HELP PAGE from ATI actully looks much easier, they don't ramble like me How do I install the graphics driver manually if the AMD Catalystâ„¢ software suite fails to install?http://support.amd.com/en-us/search/faq/1 Edited October 8, 2014 by Brash_Endeavors
Posted October 8, 2014 Kegan I had already tried that version of catalyst with not luck. Brash when I look at the display adapters It doesn't even show any devise info. I'd like to thank both of you for trying to help me resolve this issue, I do appreciate your time and energy spent trying to help me. I was given an older Gforce GT610 that the fan went out on and was unable to kind up with my friends gaming needs. Just got done installing it and the updated drivers and is work fairly well I'm getting 30FPS, this should get me though tell I have the funds to get something better.
