Could not create display with selected width and height. The error was: <Pixel format not accelerated>

Hi guys,

 

I receive the following error / crash when attempting to start the client.

 

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit with Java 7 64 bit. I've read on the forums here that Java 8 can sometimes fix issues, and then I also read to not use Java 8.

 

Any direction would be helpful.

It's possible you might figure out what's wrong from the log file below, but if you can't, post the full log on the wurm online forums, and someone else might be able to help you.

You need to install graphics drivers for your system, currently the default software renderer is being used.

After posting this and at the time of this issue I had an on board AMD Radeon 3200. I installed the drivers (per your recommendation) and the game worked.  The game ran slow though, even with settings turned down. So I ran to the store and bought an EVGA Nvidia GeForce 210 - 1024MB DDR2 PCI-Express 2.0 card... it runs worse now... to the point I can't even load the world and move. Is the card I purchased worse than my on board card?

I managed to run wurm on GMA X3100(Intel 965) (Intel on-board graphics card) game looks crappy, but i have 5-10 fps on surface and up to 20 in caves.


 


I had same problem with wurm, i changed some settings in "compatblitity"


 


 i'll check my laptop settings later *yawn*.

Did you fully uninstall the AMD drivers before installing the Nvidia card and then installing latest Nvidia drivers?

Is the on board AMD graphics disabled ?

Compatibility, change GLSL shader support to disabled, VBO support disabled, FBO support disabled(or extension). It works on my laptop. If game will start without error, DON'T touch anything, wait until wurm will load everything.

Yes, Fully uninstalled the drivers before adding in the new card. The on board no longer displays in the device manager.


 


Tracerr - changing the compatibility options now has me running smooth as butter. On low graphics, but playable now! Thanks so much guys.

<Pixel format not accelerated> ALWAYS means you have a video driver problem. In most cases it is caused by using the generic driver that comes with windows, which might run DirectX games fine. But Microsoft tends to ignore OpenGL support, so you have to go to the videocard maker for drivers that support more than microsoft-directX games (Intel/Radeon/AMD-ATI)


 


See if you have a crash log named hs_err_pid* (either in your Wurm folder or saved to your xdeskyop) as that will tell us the exact hardware and operating system so we can point you to the right driver.   DO NOT rely on windows to update the video driver because they think theirs is fine and will tell you you are up to date. You need to go to Intel/Nvidia/Ati-Amd and get the drivers there. I can give a link if I can see the crash log I mentioned.

If you lag disable glsl shader, disable vbo and FBO support. I have integrated nvidia geforce 7050 and I always get 20-80 fps in wurm. :)
