offensive coins names

Recommended Posts

I think this is not just that some are offended, but it is showing that there is a breakdown of the game rules with offensive names on coins.  We all know the rules and if someone uses an offensive word or name on other objects they do get reprimanded or punished for it.  But with coins there is no way to trace them and there are so many coins.  Some take offense that someone is so obviously breaking game rules and getting by with it.

LOL why is marijuana a bad word?  :P By that logic alcohol should be a horrible word.

Hmm...

5 ) You may not discuss, post items or links on religion, pornography, illegal drugs or the abuse of such drugs, or game exploits such as ‘warez’ (including illegal torrents), macros and all other disallowed game practices as per the game rules.

Also do not post links for any item that involves copyrighted material. If the item seems too good to be true its usually illegal, so if uncertain ask first.

So I'd assume any instance where that word is brought it not a good instance.

But what if it's not illegal where you live...

When you registered to Wurm Online forums you accepted to follow the rules&conduct of this game.

This is a private forum with own rules.

And this is where i'd quote Arch's picture for another reminder

Then, if it suits you, you should be happy in RL that you live in a country that fits (or does not) your personal sense of liberty (as I would be if it were the case). In the game (just like anytime you are not in your country) you'll have to use (un)common sense and quit fighting the man on principle.

The exact reasons behind that rule have nothing to do with morality, but instead shield the company from outside criticism or government actions for being a safe haven for communication of non-game related illegal activities in ALL the countries that there is a significant player base. The rule is rather intelligently vague to allow some lee way in enforcement by staff such that you could, for instance, mention alcohol and not get in trouble since we have very small muslim or mormon minorities. But when a substance is forbidden in a large portion of the player base's homelands, it puts the game at risk of intervention or bad press if those substances are allowed to be discussed openly in public communications areas.

In short, to answer your quest for a loop hole, the answer is that it doesn't matter what your country says, you have to use the most constraining rules in the western world. But the staff aren't going to snap at every minor grey area transgression and aren't going to start throwing out bans unless you choose to be a about it.

See silakka? Now that is an answer. Can't argue with that :)

I recently had to rename a dozen coins because of the X rated statements on them. Make the token rename them to your village name when their deposited. To insure that no child has to see this moronic behavior.

Even better, just have the token remove any names on coins when they are deposited back in the bank.  Lots easier to code that than making it rename them to the village in which it was deposited.

I myself don't see why the party that offends the game rules just cant be punished. I think concern for coins is a waste given the same things people write on the coins they say in global or kingdom chat. Far more people see whats in chat than on the coins.

-1, I quite enjoy being reminded that Aeris has a nice body part, and even if it is "offensive," word on the street is a CM spammed them...

See, the problem with all of you is that you are too rich! If you were like me, and never saw a coin at all, there would be no problems.

It is less about "thin skin" and more about the rules. I could not spout such disgusting tripe in public chats at people, so why is naming something like that any different? All or nothing, if you can let these publicly distributed items contain insults like this, then let public chats disintegrate into random name calling.
