Armor Effectiveness: A Visual Representation

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the game and forums, but the mayor of the town I've moved in to said that something like this would be appreciated on the forums.

Using the formulas presented from http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Armor, I've created a graph of the damage reduction provided by the various armors.  There's nothing new on my part here, other than presenting it in a visual fashion.

Damage reduction doesn't include glance rate effects on damage mitigation in combat. There's more to the story than that graph shows.

I did the math for it in this spreadsheet tool if you're curious. I guess it's graphable, but it'd be difficult due to the different damage types.

Indeed.  This graph is of only one part of the whole.  Weight, effect on movement speed, glance rate, and damage reduction are all valid things to consider when choosing an armor.  Given some time, I'll try to make another graph which incorporates glance rate, but for now, this is what I have.

Double post.  Hmm, can I remove this?

This graph was created a long time ago on the older equipment and still runs true, and sadly I doubt i'd use this graph at all. bold out the lines <3.

But nice.

I see seryll with glimmer steel. Is this seryll plate? Where does serryl chain fit into this?

Ql 50 drake is as good as ql 100 chain?

That ignores glance rates. Which change things somewhat.

Really, really hoping this becomes another thread about how armor is NOT balanced and for the average PvPer who doesn't have access to drake/scale or full seryll/moon metal sets, plate is going to be the only viable solution (as well as gold chain, because everyone is so impressed that you are guaranteed victory), and everything else is just for decoration.

Blame the flat DR that underlies the glance system. It really makes armour simplified and boring. Even after glance rates are added in, you see this issue still.

Everything is taken from formulas on http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Armor.
It gives values for Glimmersteel Plate and Serryl Plate.  I don't know anything about Serryl Chain.
