New non-aggro mob: Ent

Recommended Posts

Re-use the forest giant model, scale it down in size. Make it Valrei mob in power, would really love it if it dropped seryll lump like valrei mobs do to give PvE a chance at looting some, but it's not required. Pretty rare to spawn obviously.

Having something that was relatively challenging to fight was fun, but it shouldn't be punishing to non-fighting players who couldn't stop trolls even with a templar helping.

+1 for non-aggro mobs that drop little fun stuff like seryll in freedom =)

Won't comment on any of the loot or it's power, but being who I am, I can't say anything to this except...

TAKE MY SPROUTS ALREADY!!!!

Maybe every tree when you go to cut it down, has a chance at turning into the mob.  It would make tree cutting more interesting.

Coming from a part-time massive woodcutter, even though it would be very easy to kill. Them more then likely, that would probably get annoying (though I kind of like it at the same time....hmmm)

Probably thinking about how runescape did it. The whole key here is it doesn't attack players who wouldn't be able to defend themselves since it'd easily overpower a templar.

Also, unless I misunderstand how it works, making it passive means you couldn't use guards/templars to help you kill it. At the very least I would suggest they never attack it, that would defeat the purpose and make seryll drops too easy to get.

Soooo, like in don't starve? :D

Runescape did do it ages before Don't Starve, but you're right I'd forgotten about that mob XD

An interesting mechanic would be to have them accelerate growth within a certain radius.  Causing nearby trees to grow faster.

+1 so I can have 100 of these wandering my forest

Pshh I +1 this but I don't like the fact people are complaining about a difficult mob...

I know I wouldn't mind stronger mobs, as long as it's passive... like the boar(but 10x scarier)? +1

I think there's a valid reason to complain if new or common aggro mobs get implemented into PvE that can overpower a templar easily. 1s per month has been established as the price you need to pay to not worry about mobs on your deed, and I don't think that balance should be shifted.

I'm all up for bashing it out with some tough critters, just don't want to muck up other people's already in place playstyle.

I recently suggested they add Ent as the title for 100 forestry, so maybe we should go for the name of the evil Ents, Huorn.

No opinion on ent specifically but if higher FS non-aggro mobs are added then they should be coded in such a way that once you aggro them they don't drop aggro if you walk away 3 tiles.  They should also be fairly fast.

If you choose to aggro one you better be prepared to take a beat down if you're outclassed, otherwise there's really no risk, just a slightly more involved form of mining.

It would make more sense to give them some kind of slowing ability? Otherwise they would have to move incredibly fast to keep up with freedom pimped out horses. And... well ok I don't really want to see a mob going 30km/h XD

This is treading into "more code work so less likely to happen" territory though.

There's a better model to use.  Last Halloween some creatures were turned into living trees, everybody loved them then, they would be a great model for the new creature.

Neat! Would love to see a picture, hadn't heard of that :)

Make it Valrei mob in power.

Valrei mobs go from wildcat-troll as far as their stats.

Really the only dangerous ones are drakespirits because of their aoe, and eaglespirits/nogumps because bugged throwing mechanics.

The halloween tree model would work well for this. Good idea!

Shouldnt require much coding to get this out I presume.

Orly now? You never hear talk about the weaker valrei mobs. Forgive my PvEness on that one ^_^ Ideally speaking I was talking a mob that is either extremely difficult to solo, or outright possible and requiring a small group.

But I think that kinda came across ^_^ Which valrei's are wildcat strength? I'm curious now because wildcat strength and seryll drops sound fun =D

Yeah there's really weak ones, spawn of utacha or what's its face is really weak, like young bear weak. I killed several when they were spawning at freedom, at the time i had like 20-30fs and ql 20-30 gear only.

Biggest problem with valrei mobs is that the strong ones are dragon-strong, and yet they spawn in number and roam a lot. Drake spirit had also the not so awesome ability to outrun you on pavement with no gear, and can stun the hell out of you and then 1-hit toss you off a mountain.

I wouldn't be opposed to valrei stuff spawning on freedom IF they roamed less, and weren't so goddamn overpowered. Even on chaos (with all the pvp-geared people, and group focus) people seem to struggle with the stronger ones, on freedom with so many stay at home hermit solo players it would be a bit chaotic to have valrei critters spawn as agressively as they did back then. Not that its gamebreaking, i've had drakespirits near my place twice during that period, what i did was lure him away on horseback.  What many people did was to lure them to the starting town where the 5 templars in it could kill the beast, albeit slowly.
