Sea Serpent Alert! Southern Lake, Xanadu

Recommended Posts

Hi,

my Fo Priest just got killed by a Sea Serpent!

It is somewhere between Long Lake and Ashton Cleft, at the coordinates R20/R21 in that lake there.

If someone would be nice and go kill it, I would be grateful.

Would be glad to get my sailboat back but I fear it will kill me again.

I was down at 5% health after just one hit, and could not outrun it with my sailboat or calm it down.

It just appeared out of nowhere.

Maybe just spawned there.

Are uniques always like that?

A normal mob would have given up chasing me within seconds but this one stayed persistant several minutes.

Or maybe those 12kmh I could only sail at were not enough?

Why could those stupid monsters not just stay out of the regular travelling routes :(

How about a separate server for Veteran monsters?

With a portal like Epic has it, for instant travelling there,  just that you keep all skills upon porting?

And keep the normal maps free of them. I would totally not mind.

Some people are just here for the peaceful crafting, and alot only go on rare occasions on an adventure tour.

Those all don't need Uniques getting into their way.

Or how about a zone warning in event window?

Like "You see a Sea Serpent from afar, if you continue this direction it might see and attack you" or something more creative just so you have a fair warning and a choice to run away before it is too late.

Or just have them stop following after a few tiles at least, and not attack if a person does not attack first and has a low fight skill. That might just be enough.

Totally unneccessary that a 100 alignment and faith Fo priest gets attacked at all!

Ah well just a few ideas.

Update: I could recover corpse and boat. Seems the Serpent will not always stay in the same spot. At extreme item/creature rendering distance I could still not see it, but my friend could and guided me around.

They are pretty big and easy to spot,,   best to just sail around them, maybe the aggro range was upped on them?

It's also possible you have your graphics turned down so far that he didn't render till you were on top of him.  He's visible from a long way off and can't exactly hide behind a bunch of trees.

I might be able to help you get your stuff but coordinating time wise could be tricky.

Thanks, if someone would just kill the bugger I would be glad. Could get my stuff alone then.  I appreciate the help! :-)

And yeah I had most graphics down. Did not see it.

I could swear it wasnt there though yesterday when I sailed that route.

Could it be possible that it spawns somewhere else tomorrow?

Another idea might be to lead it to a guard tower.

Would that work or are there even any towers in that area?

He moves around a bit,  maybe he was 20 tiles or so off to one side yesterday so he didn't render for you and you didn't aggro him.  In general uniques pretty much stay in their spawn point though maybe the serpent is coded differently (unlikely).

Killing him will take a bit more coordination,  I can kite him, can't kill him, not solo anyway :).

Just kill it, they aren't that tough, we easily took one down with about 8 folks, about a month back or so.

Get a group together and get rid of the neighborhood nuisance ;)

Would you happen to know how fast it can swim?

Or maybe those 12kmh I could only sail at were not enough?

At least 12kmh it would appear :)

But no I don't.  The only time I was around him I wasn't paying that much attention to his speed.  At a guess I'd say less than 15 or not much over it.  This means it would be wise to think about wind direction and boat type when messing with him, running away into the wind at 8kmh is probably a mistake.

well darn... only have row boats left for an attempt to lure it away, and it will require a gale to get those to 13 kmh.

Would anyone of you nice people happen to know if the Serpent follows on land or into shallow water, and if she stays in the spot where she killed someone? Seems she has not moved away since yesterday. Maybe I could sacrifice a noob to kite her away and stay in the new spot?
