Posted June 15, 2014 Rauthr and Busted, I am confused as to where your hostility comes from, my complaint is a fair one. We give up money to play a game that is supposed to be "fun", it is a game. There is nothing "fun" in watching the same thing on your screen for 2.5 hours or 10 hours, ( if what you say is true). I am also confused that you are so complacent about your real life being used up, for such a ridiculous waste. Games are a bit of a waste in the first place, if there is some enjoyment in it then okay.. but what enjoyment is there in,... as you claim, 8-10 hours of sailing, it shouldn't have to take so long to go from point A to point B. I am not being unreasonable. I want to spend my Wurm time more productively. I want to make a world as it is advertised. I don't want the money I spent on premium time used up sailing endlessly. Can you honestly tell me that you wouldn't rather that it take less time, or would you have it stay this way, and just sit there watching the water go by for 10 hours, ( because its awesome). I don't know where you get that kind of time, I am dumb struck that someone would want do that. btw, it wasn't two hours later that I created a thread, it was 2 days later, just sayin'. "lol". And the hope in creating a thread is that perhaps the devs will see that not everyone is happy with the way things are and maybe one day change it. I wasn't just complaining to see my name in the forums, I hope for change. And I don't spend my time in forums being rude to others. maybe they just do other things while semiafk sailing. Such as doing through the DVR queue, watching the next season of XXXXX on netflis, reading a book, playing another game while waiting for next seafaring turn. Posted June 15, 2014 I do have to admit the OP sounds very childish. In real life I'm stuck in a car 3-6 hours a day. I don't much care for having to stare at pavement and other cars for that time but I still do it because it's a necessary part of my life. However, other people don't have to do this. Wurm is much the same way, you want to go somewhere, it takes time. Having a better boat or different sailing conditions might make your life slightly easier but in the end of the day, You're still stuck in a boat with the driver actually sailing the boat hence the stamina loss. If you don't enjoy sailing, then don't. It's not something your forced into doing. However, I must say i rather enjoy sailing as it is.

Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) I see this thread and laugh. How far would we have progressed as a people if everyone through history had always complained of how hard travel was? Buck up, it's a big world now and travel takes time. You are too used to instant gratification in your modern world. You are now in a medieval simulator, of course it's going to be hard and take a long time. Edited June 15, 2014 by Vroomfondel
Posted June 15, 2014 Main problem always seems to be nearly impossible to do anything beneficial when sailing, and too much rowing is needed to get a decent speed (plus even sailboats are atrocious upwind).
Posted June 15, 2014 the problem, as it seems, is not the time that is needed to travel from a place to another, but the fact that times so long prevents to go around in a boat with 4k items stored and get from a side to another of the server in half an hour...As the problem with ores that someone had, that behavior can be summarized with the rule of the five p: prior planning prevent poor performance.I knew that Xanadu could pose problems like 6-8 hours trips from one side to the other with boat (and total impossiblity to make the same with a cart in one single day) from when the server size was announced, like 3 months ago.We cannot comply today for the ships speed in a trip from the nearest servers to xanadu, else tomorrow will be like: hey, i need to get from pristine to chaos in less than 1 hour, or better by portals so no delay... Posted June 15, 2014 Ships are fine the way they are but i agree the whole stamina for the pilot should be changed to allow them to do things while sailing.I agree. Long trips wouldn't seem as bad if we could imp spindles or something during the ride.
Posted June 15, 2014 You can imp carpentry/cloth items while you travel. But in response to all this? "We want a big server, huge server!" "Woah this serve is too big! Make travel faster so it feels smaller!" Are we never happy? And yes, I've sailed xanadu several times including my current circumnavigation of it, don't like it don't live there. Jeez. Who exactly was championing a "big huge server"? Who even wanted a new server in the first place? The whole idea just seems misplaced and odd, and not very well supported with current traveling mechanics. For those saying "Well, nobody is making you travel, stay put if it bothers you." Great, so now the community can see even less of one another. The community is becoming more and more fractured, and with current traveling mechanics, it's not going to get better any time soon. As much as I would be bothered by this idea, maybe Rolf should just shut down all other servers and make everyone move. Or maybe I'm wrong, and now that we have all this server space Wurm can finally advertise properly and take on the plethora of new users!
Posted June 16, 2014 You know that Xanadu is only 1/4 of its originally planned size? I placed my place on purpose to south east end of Xanadu, hidden deep in labyrint of bays to not see other Wurmians on miles away. And you know what? I have neighbor just outside of my local. And I had 4 wurmians sailing/scouting around this weekend. So much to hermit feeling style. Xanadu definitely is not big enough

Xanadu definitely is not big enough About the only way you can get no locals is to have an island. It took me some work but i have the only island that i know of that all the land around it is out of local range. It seems the south is really popular anyway you should have went north or someplace not by water..heh I do think we need a little bump in the speed on the boats though if nothing else an increase in the minimum would help loads. Posted June 17, 2014 Personally, I enjoy the long trips because it enhances immersion in the game. It makes the distance feel actual and real. In fact, it was the main reason I moved from Celebration to Independence (and now Xanadu) because I wanted to feel like I'm living in a realistic world. Sure, the trips are boring as hell. Sure, they take a lot of time - but hey - you can always watch a movie or something while you're travelling. I for one would not like to see travel times adjusted in any way, as masochistic as that is.
Posted July 6, 2014 Developers should be required to perform the actions they code - at least once. Rolf did. There used to be a nice series of write-ups that he did about it. It was Pre-1.0 on the pvp servers. Learn to tack. Also, sail a knarr against the wind, everything else is easy after that (hint: a sailboat is faster.)
