screen shots + OCR tools

Recommended Posts

Is it ok to use OCR programing tools on screen shots of Wurm? I want to study quality spreads for various skills that produce varying output qualities. I'd prefer it if I didn't have two manually write down 100's of numbers.

I"m looking for an official GM/DEV response. I'm dumb and have no common sense so the ambiguous game rules don't help me. I instead ask specific questions like this.

why you need OCR over screenshot?

Can't you use "dump skills" from console to have all your skills updated with more decimal ?

Anyway yes it is allowed, it is the same of read logs, because it doesn't interact with the client/game.

EDIT:

I'm not sure but I already saw something similar, maybe on WurmAssistant ??

"Dump skills" does not give the quality for each item in say a stack of 100 cordage ropes, or 100 iron ores, or 100 steel lumps...or or or. That tool is to fetch skill data. It has nothing to do with items. I want data on items. If we had a "dump this container" tool, then I'd be set.

Ok. So tomorrow I'll plug an OCR software in my computer, OCR the Local window with a stealthed alt in my deed to know when enemies raid me before they even set local alarm. Doesn't sound that innocent now does it ;) ?

If you are OCR-ing or pixel grabbing, you are marginally making a bot.

...Unless done manually. But that is a scary thought you have there. Does legality have to do with interaction with the client only?
