Xanadu Release on a Tuesday? Why?

Recommended Posts

So we are now ready to announce the release date of our Mega Server Xanadu!

Get ready for one truly epic land rush event on june 3rd 18.00 CEST.

I am sitting here at the start of a wonderful three day weekend here in the U.S.A. and I am asking what was the thinking behind opening up Xanadu, the biggest Wurm server ever, on a TUESDAY of all days?  It just makes no sense to me...

Why Tuesday, June 3rd?  Is it so that you have 3 days to fix crashing and other unforseen issues before the weekend?  I just don't get it.

UPDATE:  So my complaint has turned into a defense of the decision.  As has been so well put in this thread, the devs deserve a weekend as well and launching mid-week is the best way to fix issues before a busy player weekend!

Cheers!

Solid reasoning.

Wildstar is in no way the same genre of MMO as this. Not saying it's bad or good, just that it's a different playerbase for the most part. It would be very difficult to compete with them for adspace though.

Maybe its a simple as thats when they estimate the final touches will be completed by. Possibly a multitude of reasons.

New server = lots of bugs. Would you rather release it on a friday at 17:00 and just be broken for the whole weekend?

Simple people at work and school less stress on system makes for a better chance at a smooth launch.

Ah, you may be on to something.  Uniques, trader changes, etc.  It is starting to make sense to me now, lol.

Why? What is the biggest MMO of all time? What day do the take it down for maintenance? In fact, there are other mmos that follow the same day. What do you think 12 million players are doing when their game is down? ;-)

But you do know that...

The official opening will be on the 10th of June, right? This is to let new players explore Xanadu without having to race others for claiming land.

Before, when a new server would open, there would be huge landrushes with hundreds of cogs, corbitas, sailing boats etc.

Most competent game devs do this.

And less people to rant if it bursts into flames for the next 8 hours.

Trolling the forums. hahaha

(looks around nervously) What?

Seriously, in a world where the whole world plays an online game, there is always going to be someone in prime time during downtime and restarts. I would guess they picked a time and day that they can look back into the population counts and say, "This impacts the least amount of people if something goes wrong."

It's for me.  I have a busy first week of June so I asked for the Tuesday start.  That way I go in Monday slay all the alligators and do not feel bad for taking off Tuesday.  I should be able to handle the spawns on Wednesday.

To the OP: yes, you are enjoying a 3 day weekend.  Devs like to enjoy their weekends too, especially 3 day weekends.  You know that a new server never opens without issues, and at 4x bigger than ever before the new server will have issues.  Why should the devs work on the weekend (or worse, a holiday weekend) to make sure the new server is running properly when they can do it on a weekday?  Why should they put themselves through that?

Yep, that makes sense.  I should have put myself in their shoes, especially since I am a developer as well and hate working on the weekend to fix customer bugs.

Probably since they would be watching Game of Thrones late at night on Sunday, and would be too tired on Monday that leaves Tuesday

as long as the game only have an English client the Asia-Pacific primetime is always lowest in population. Even steam has a gap of 2.5m (out of 6.5 m) between the better and worse times, and generally speaking Aussie hours and Asia-Pacific hours got the worst end of the stick.

Seems clear to me you get Monday and some of Tuesday to get last minute things done then the rest of the week to fix any major bugs before the weekend.

Don't you just love when someone complaining comes to realize the point mid-complaint?

No, the connection from Xanadu to the other servers will be opened at least a week after Xanadu is up and running. Red Barron has said this at least twice, it could very well be more than a week if there are some unforseen issues they have to deal with.
