Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) I'm using Debian 7 but if I could start over I would use ubuntu. It has far better support and documentation. CentOS and Fedora are crap. FreeBSD ( not technically linux ) is also another smelly big poop. Edited May 15, 2014 by Issle
Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) I am using Ubuntu on 3 servers I administrate and Debian on another one. Also got one Windows machine but this is just nothing more than expensive if you do not need it. Edited May 16, 2014 by Sklo:D
Posted May 16, 2014 Don't know about "best" but I run my gaming on Debian testing and am perfectly happy with that.
Posted May 16, 2014 If you're asking as a standard user your best bet is Ubuntu. They have more freedom with including restrictive software license packages and offer better documentation and desktop experience from the get-go. I've used Debian before but they are much more conservative for software package updates, which is great for stable server environments, but bad for getting the latest packages on your desktop/laptop. Ubuntu 14.04 is an LTS release which is great to install because it'll be supported for years to come.
