Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) There's so many sharks out there but there is little to no rewards for killing them. They give barely any fight skill and the butcher isn't very exciting. When there's hundreds on the same area on a server and no incentive to kill them they are going to eat up the proper aggressive animal spawns. Here's a sample of how they are: Edited May 5, 2014 by snakegal
Posted May 4, 2014 +1 need more of a reward for killing them.
Posted May 4, 2014 I got an eyeball from one. I have killed 4 now and no meat. Only that one eyeball.
Posted May 4, 2014 I personally would like to see sharks VERY rarely. Right now they're taking ALL of the aggressive spawns.
Posted May 4, 2014 Good idea, i also agree with orb. There are way to many sharks around.
Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) simple answer, there IS an insentive for shark fishing.it's called regaining decent agro spawns while everyone sits around complaining; they're out there, growing in number .... so get in your knarrs and go hunting and control the population! Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) Everyone knows there's a problem with shark over-spawning (which is the real issue here) and I'm sure the devs are already working on it or at least have it marked as a future priority. I highly doubt topics like these are necessary (if I'm wrong, the devs are far more clueless than I give them credit for). Posted May 4, 2014 I think they should drop teeth, but nothing more exciting (other than meat). And fix the shark spawn.
Posted May 4, 2014 But! At least this one is happy!
Posted May 4, 2014 Make sharks rare, but to balance it out, make them stronger than trolls and have them give appropriate FS to match.
Posted May 4, 2014 Other issue is the unicorn armies taking over the mainland. They overpower a lot of aggros since they lair spawn. What we really need is starving aggros to die after a while. That would solve this issue really fast since sharks have no food source. It would recycle the aggro spawns.
Posted May 5, 2014 Just reduce their spawn rate instead of coding something to make them more desirable.

It's too bad the creature AI is so rudimentary. If aggressive mobs really had to eat and died from starvation in a meaningful way and if sharks could feed off fishing spots then you'd eventually only see them clustered loosley around fishing spots since all others would die out. Personally I'd do that *and* make them aggro but that would probably be wildly unpopular. It would mean folks would need to scout map fishing spots and avoid or target them as appropriate. It would of course require some simple mutli-tiered pathing and goal logic (I'm hungry, find food, eat, wander, I'm hungry etc). Unfortunately considering animal logic is currently more like: I'm not in corner of pen with all other animals move to corner or I'm not on some bloody steep mountain, move to mountain so not really practical atm. Posted May 8, 2014 easy fix to the shark population is limit to only 100 sharks per 1000 aggros on the cap ( basicly only 1/10th of the aggro cap can be sharks at any one time)
Posted May 8, 2014 Right now they're taking ALL of the aggressive spawns. This is not true.
Posted May 8, 2014 LMAO Unless you started paying people 10 silver per shark kill, there's WAY too many sharks to deal with. Some little reward here or there, isn't going to motivate us en mass to our boats to go shark hunting. Fix the spawns, or better yet remove them from the game. It really makes Wurm look like a cartoony kids game the way it is now. Sharks don't attack boats and they rarely if ever try to kill humans. We're not in their food chain. Posted May 9, 2014 I only see a handful of them where I live 2-5 per trip.....
Posted May 9, 2014 Shark hides? Might be a good enough excuse for the leatherworkers to get out there and start clearing. (and before you ask, make the shark hide the same as any other hide animal in that it turns into normal leather)
Posted May 9, 2014 I agree with shark spawn reduction, and more butchering products as bp1986 suggested, for example that shark hide. Or a shark fin, could be used in making healing covers or to make a shark fin hat, or something.
Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) I don't think a shark fin is a necessary addition when there are plenty of other body parts they could drop. While I'm not really an animal activist, I would still find it distasteful to have shark fin harvesting in the game when it is very serious real world problem - though granted, we would actually kill the sharks rather than just chop off all their fins and toss them back into the water where they will slowly starve to death as they are no longer capable of swimming. We could say the same about mountain lions, fish, bisons, deers, and almost every non-fantasy animal we got.
Posted May 9, 2014 Those other animals are not hunted for one single body part for a completely unnecessary reason. Sharks are captured for the sole purpose of harvesting their fins to be used in shark fin soup. There is no actual reason for making soup out of a shark fin, as it has virtually no taste. There are numerous laws in many countries in place in an effort to put a stop to shark fin harvesting. It is not even remotely comparable to killing those other animals. If you want a better comparison, the shark fin industry is more akin to rhino horn and elephant ivory harvesting.

Those other animal are still being hunted till extinction, caring about a single one is kinda dumb in my opinion, and more if we are talking about a in-game one. So I'm going to think that you have a thing for sharks
