So my idea is that we add in some kind of metor/master and apprentice function. This function will help younger players gain skill a bit faster and add some sense of realism. The idea is that a player with less than 50 skill can find a more experienced player who has more than 50skill in the area he wishes to be mentored in and ask them to be mentor to them for that specific skill. I.e. if a player with 10 LW asked a player with 50 LW or more to be there mentor. It would be up to the mentor wether or not to accept. Now once the player has a mentor the way it would work is when there mentor is online and within their local the player gets increased skill gain. The higher skilled the mentor the higher the skill gain for the apprentice. For example if the Mentor has 50+ skill it will give 2x skill gain 70+skill 3x skill gain and 90+ skill 4x skill gain. Also to make it more beneficial to the mentors we could add some kind of either increase in their skill gain or maybe a title and some other reward. Let me know what you think if you give it a + or -1 plz let me know why.

Won't work for several reasons:

1) Way too fast

2) Will be used almost entirely by mains ramping up alts

3) Majority of people will tell real new players to bugger off.

There's already mentoring that's much more real than some coded mechanic in the form of tools, equipment and advice.  That's how it should work and works pretty well.

yes but if you have prem alts then why not allow ppl to help out there alts and yes i know a lot of ppl will tell new player to buzz off and that is their choice thats another reason i suggested rewards for mentors. Also the numbers giving do not have to be the exact ones used they were just an example.

I really appreciate your motive...you want to help out new players...i see 1 problem with this...what if a person with 90 skill asks for money for mentoring? people can use this system to abuse the game very hard...someone starting off a fresh account can pay money to a 90+ mentor and skill up real fast and then sell account...or someone with 90+ skill can make multiple accounts and raise the skills faster...50 skill is not very high..but still money WILL be involved in this no matter how hard the devs try. I know you haven't thought of this..your idea is very unique and interesting...i like your concern for the new players..but in the end it would support the people with real life money rather than people who worked hard to grind skills
Thank you for opening up my mind and expanding my view..amazing suggestion..but -1.

I actually have thought of the money issue and if ppl want to pay to skill up why shouldnt they it is there money and ppl pay for accounts all the time so there isnt much difference.

That would make high quality things unsellable. Not talking about things mentioned above.

Village boards have answered this. Once they are in a village they have as good a chance to succeed as Wurm gives.

I love the intention, but the proposed system makes it to easy.  Getting to 50 isnt even that hard as it stands.  If a player wants to mentor a new player they can already vastly improve their time and experience by providing good tools/enchants/advice/better materials etc.  I think the current organic system works perfectly well for this kind of thing.

-1  It would be too fast a learning curve, and would ruin the markets.  The current system is fine, we all help new players with advice on how to best get their skills anyway (at least on the Freedom Isles).  You also already get faith and productivity bonuses being part of a village, that is plenty.

Maybe it should check if both characters are under the same email?  If they are prevent the mentoring.

I think it should cap out at 50.

I think for every successful mentoring, the mentor could get new titles or possibly a bonus to rare roll window for town.

I honestly don't think their are enough benefits to towns.  A large successful town should draw people to live there.

Right now i feel like everyone wants to live on their own like hermits.

That's because over the years the game has gotten progressively easier with additions like this.   Back before FSB's, BSB's, skill decay removal, slow fight skill gains etc etc it was much more rare for folks to live solo.  You needed specialists, you needed folks doing the cruft job.  Now it's pretty easy to hermit up right from the start.

You can already take someone on as an apprentice, if you like that sort of role play.

What you described sounds like a terrible idea because of alts.

While I think many people would use it to invest in new players, I also think that it would be used in a pseudo-slave driver capacity

"You want some boosted carp skill nub?"

"OFC OMG PLZPLZPLZ"

"Come to my place, I will apprentice you and you can make me 2k planks, that will get your skill up real nice."

*Also note, this may not be an entirely bad interaction, it is much too abusable for my tastes.*
