Mega Server test Tuesday 29 April 23.00 CEST/5 PM EST

Recommended Posts

With short notice due to a new deadline, we announce our next Mega Server test tomorrow evening Swedish time. The time is selected for being one hour before normal peak time, and we will run it for as long as player count increases which should be somewhere around one to three hours.

In order to participate, you do not have to register – just download our standard test client found at http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_test.jnlp

Since the graphics and sound packs take quite some time to download please do it as soon as possible. The client currently links to our standard test server but will be relinked a while before the test starts. If you come to the old test server during the test, close the client and redownload it.

This server is 4 times the size of Independence, so a bit smaller than we had initially hoped. It’s still 16 times our standard servers which is a huge improvement.

Just like the last time, Rolf will be experimenting with live streaming on twitch.tv/codeclub

Well met!

It's not about the size, it's how you use it.

Since you fully read the main post I'm sure you saw the "In order to participate, you do not have to register" part.

To test out how a smaller server works in performance, probably.

Yes please and what is the "peak" time you talking about?

Time when most people are online.

You seem so wise. What time is peak time?

Just to know so can plan stuff ahead since test is tomorrow.

4 times the size of independence is still a huge amount of space, considering inde still has lots of room left after almost 5 years. :)

Doesn't seem long ago since Inde opened. :(

My guess would be that they probably want to compare the test results to the results of the previous test with the bigger server. Then they can get an idea of how much the size of the server impacts the performance, allowing them to find the sweet spot for server size.

It might be interesting if they eventually go with an oblong server that is say, 4x2 inde servers or something, which would be half the size of the first Xanadu test (4x4 indes).

But really, 2x2 inde servers is still massive, 4 times the size of inde. :)

4x the size of independence sounds better as 16x was just an overkill. Makes me wonder though now that it was changed will we be able to sail over when it releases or will it still be unconnected for a week?

If you look at the auction timer countdown on the main post it's actually 23:00 CEST.

Likely still have it. If 200 people sail over with thousands of items, it doesn't matter if the world is x16 or x4 the size. The hardware having to deal with that processing stays the same.

So, now it is downgraded to Giant Server, not Mega Server.

Well, if the turnout isn't as much as you'd like, remember you went back on that XD

Rolf could always limit the amount of items you can take with you for the first week. He's done that before, when everybody was forced to move from JKH to Independence. I believe it was 100 items in your boat and 100 on your character (inventory and equipped/backpack items if I'm not mistaken). There's precedence for it and he could always limit the amount of items more than that.

Well if done right with not a lot of water then 4x should be fine for everyone. Although anything less than 16x just seems like a cheap knockoff now, lol

Im with Sil, Indy is massive 4 times the size of Indy is unbelievably huge, id rather a large stable server than a stupidly huge one that is often unstable.. I still remenber when Indy was laggy as hell haha.
