  1. Hi everyone! After a few hiccups we're pleased to see the new huge update live! There's all sorts of things, from highways, to crate racks and new fence types, so let's get to it! But first... Patch Notes Highway update We've been busy setting up all starter towns with the catseyes and waystones. They will extend into the perimeter of all starter deeds allowing you to connect them to your highways. The highway rules will continue to operate for a while, we'll give notice when we begin to phase them out and replace them with the updated ruleset to incorporate catseyes. Map dumps! As promised, we have the new map dumps to coincide with the release of the highway update! The map dumps were taken earlier in August and we're currently looking at adding a new dump type into the roster showing off highways in the next rotation! The folder of all dumps can be found here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6J_aGQ6URL8UURFN2VadWxtSWs Unstable client With todays update the unstable client is very close to launching as the stable client. While we will offer the stable one temporarily as a legacy client, it's really important you test this as soon as possible to avoid any major issues when we switch over. For info on what feedback to leave and how check out this thread here: Blossom voting The blossom starter deed design contest is now open for voting! I think all designs look awesome, and I'm keen to see how wins! check them out and submit your vote here: Battle bards! This week I was shown a little podcast by a group that covers MMO music, and this time they checked out the Wurm Online soundtrack! From Gurubear's quirky songs to the atmospheric soundtracks by Tom E. Morrison, Check out the podcast here: https://biobreak.wordpress.com/2017/08/16/battle-bards-episode-103-wurm-online/ Community content This week the factional fight guys check out one of the surprise additions to this weeks update and talk about how it impacts the game for them, what's your favourite part of this update? That's it from us this week, we'll continue to monitor the update and take any action necessary over the next week. There's plenty more in the works as we've hinted at before. What is it? You'll just have to wait and see... Retrograde & the Wurm team
  2. Karma - Angelklaine Hi Everyone! A surprise in this weeks news with a long suggested and requested addition finally coming, and that's not all, we'll recap what's been going on this week as well! But first... Patch Notes A crate surprise With the launch of 1.3 we introduced several new storage options with the barrel and wine barrel rack, the planter rack, and the amphora rack. Today we tease a new rack coming, one that's been asked about for a while now, the crate rack! The crate rack will hold 30 large crates and a whopping 50 small, stockpiling just got a whole lot easier! Highway testing We've had a few races this week using the new highway routing system which is a lot of fun and really easy to follow. We'll be continuing to hold random events with a little notice, but we also encourage you to jump on and try it all for yourself. It's a huge system with a lot of possible uses so make sure you spend the time learning it! For testing and a guide check out this thread here: Midsummers event all wrapped up! I'd like to thank you all for attending the Midsummers event and providing your feedback. It was a lot of fun and I've learned some valuable lessons for future events (not so long!) We have some more events planned in the future, so stay tuned for those. Unstable client! The unstable client is extremely close to going stable and replacing the existing one, so it's incredibly important that you try it and report ANY issues you have with it. if you have bad performance, crashes, anything that could hinder your play compared to the stable client it's incredibly important that you do report these before it goes live as the stable client. Failure to do so may impact your play if any issues arise from the use of the unstable client and we definitely do not want that to happen! The unstable client link can be found here: http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlp Community Content - Tapestry comp There's been some amazing submissions to the tapestry competition, (I'm torn between so many!) I thoroughly advise taking the time to look through them. I may have to nag Saroman about more than one winner... Not only are we working on the highway system, work continues on the valrei overhaul, the creature movement changes and the new skill coming to the game. There's a lot in the works, and I'm keen to share all the information on them as they near completion. Until then though, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  3. San Fazenda, Deliverance - Kriet A short news this week as we prepare for the next update, expected to land this Thursday, 17th of August. Which will see the release of the new highway system to the live servers! Unfortunately the animal crates won't be in this update, as we're still working out all the issues with crossing borders, but crate racks will be in so get ready to store! Highway testing and learning If you'd like to get a better understanding of the highway system the test server is open to all players, and a GM or dev will happily help with resources or tools if you require, just jump in IRC and ask! During this week we'll also be handing out deed settlement forms for building and connecting highways, so if you want to understand the system, now's the time! Map dumps This introduction will have a huge impact on travelling in Wurm, and we also said to time with this update we'll also be releasing map dumps, which will be coming out on the same day or by the weekend. During testing we used a special map dump to map out highways on the test server, and we'll be looking at the possibility of including a dump like this in our regular map dumps, showing an overlay of highways and how they map across the server! (the deeds would not be shown) Blossom rebuild We've had a whopping four entrants to the blossom rebuild proposals, making it one of the most popular ones (if not THE most popular). We'll be organising it for a vote some time next week. Whitefay didn't get any proposals, but that's okay! We'll revisit the contest down the line and see if there's any takers then. Community Content This weeks community content is the latest Factional fight video, where they discuss their thoughts and ideas about what we have coming to Wurm, what do you think about their ideas? How would you like to see the proposed works come into the game? That's it from us this week! Of course, with the highway system out we begin to look at the other projects we have underway and will be looking at sharing more with you on this in the near future, until then though, keep on wurming! Retrograde & The Wurm team.
  4. Winterscape - Jonydowy Hi Everyone! Another week down as we work on our many projects coming to fruition, I know I'm excited for the cages and something that hasn't been announced yet, but that'll have to wait until it's closer to the release date so stay tuned for more news on that. This week we'll touch on a few upcoming events and competitions! Blossom and Whitefay redesigns The proposal entries for Blossom and Whitefay redesigns are up, so if you're interested in submitting a proposal, get a team together and get cracking! The proposal threads can be found here: Wurm fanart ingame! Starting next Tuesday, the 1st of the month, we'll be launching a competition for you all to submit entries for a new tapestry design. The rules will be pretty straight forward, with original works or ingame screenshots required (no copyright material!) and one entry per person. A decent resolution must be used too, but we'll make sure it fits properly. The winner will receive a supreme version of their tapestry when it goes into the game! Weekend highway testing We'll be looking at setting up some scenarios for testing the new highway system this weekend, providing materials to build and form your own highways, as well as use the routing system. We'll also be looking at some events on the test server utilizing the new system and the ability to win some prizes in the live server! Midsummers event, last weekend! Don't miss out! This event finishes up at the end of the month, so this is your last chance to get in there and get the awesome Mask of Rebirth as your prize! I've heard there are a few maps floating around, so if you've been waiting for a guide to go through, now is your time! Community Content This weeks community content keeps in line with the highways coming, and showcases an amazing highway built by Shyruban, along with help from many others. I personally love the moss as the border, it keeps the sides clear but also green! The full details of the highway as well as a few screenshots can be found here, it looks awesome! That's it from me this week, I hope to see many of you on the test server getting ready for the highway system coming, but until then, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
  5. Crystal Bay Estates - Finndar Hi Everyone! Patch day has come and gone, and the java update issues have been addressed. We're aware of the horse and cart issues, as well as the water sources, and will be looking at that over the weekend. There's lots to share this week, so let's jump in! But first... Valrei overhaul So we mentioned we'll be sharing some more details about the valrei system and the planned overhauls some time ago, and now it's time to share! So let's jump into it. We have some planned changes for Valrei, the mission system, and Epic in general. These changes are well underway and due in the next few weeks to a month or so. To start off, with the larger number of player gods that have been added to the game over the past few years, it is necessary to look at how those gods impact the Valrei board. Coming with this set of changes will be player gods being removed from the Valrei board once they are changed from demigods into full gods. When a player uses a Key to the Heavens, they will still be added to the Valrei board as a static entity paired to their god, but once their god wins a scenario may become a full god and removed from the board. When this happens the player god will still generate missions for players to complete, but these missions will not directly affect the Valrei board in any way or give scenario points. Scenario rewards are also being changed slightly. Coming with this update will be a requirement for players to be premium in order to be rewarded scenario points as well as karma upon completing a mission. If the player that participated in the mission is non premium, they will only be rewarded karma and sleep bonus, but not scenario points. At the end of a scenario, there will be 3 tiers of rewards The top tier will be available to those with the top 20% of scenario contributors, and contain the highest rewards of a single use tome, or a small chance of a Key to the Heavens or dragon egg for those in the top 5%. After this tier will be a second set of winners for the top 50% of contributors where there will be 3 prizes of a yet to be announced item. The final tier for the full 100% of contributors will have 5 chances for either the above unannounced item, or a moon metal lump. This will only impact the Epic servers, as Freedom does not receive scenario rewards. In addition to the above is a full rework of all mission types, difficulty and rewards. Some existing missions will be removed, some new mission types will be added, and we’ll be going over all mission types to make sure that their difficulty to complete, and reward amounts (of karma, sleep bonus and scenario points) scale properly to the difficulty of the mission. As a larger overall change to this system, the difficulty tiers will be changing from a system of 1-4 to a system of 1-7, where the difficulty of the mission is determined by the number of successful missions in a row for that god as opposed to the number of source items that god is currently holding on Valrei. This means as more missions for a given god are completed, the difficulty and rewards of the mission will increase. This applies both to Epic and Freedom, where an additional bonus on Epic will be increased help for the given god, reducing their move timer more depending on the mission difficulty. Similar to now, some missions will be available in friendly territory, and some will be available in enemy territory only according to the difficulty. As mentioned above, the sleep bonus and karma rewards for participating in a mission will be changing from a flat 1000 karma and 30min sleep bonus per mission, instead scaling with the difficulty of the mission with the very low difficulties giving less than the current defaults, and the higher difficulties giving more than the current defaults. There are also more changes planned for Valrei and Epic in general, but we’re not quite ready to release details of these changes yet. More info about these will come in the near future. All caged up A long requested addition is the ability for creatures to be loaded into vehicles, and I have a very special surprise this week, without further ado... That's right, in a coming up date creatures will be able to be loaded into cages, and onto vehicles! Different creatures will take different volumes, and they will need to be led prior to being loaded (meaning no ships full of spiders!) Upon crossing servers they retain all info about traits. Parentage and cared for status will return upon returning to the original server. Highway testing push we're gearing up our public testing of the new highway system in anticipation of releasing it with the next big update! We'll be looking at how best to organise public testing, but the best thing you can do is jump on the test server and play around with paving the catseyes and building highways! The ongoing discussion thread with the technical gory details can be found here: Wonders of Celebration Iberis (known ingame as Hexd and Mizova) is at it again! This time she's taking her sightseeing tour to Celebration and is looking for your input on what's great to see across the server. If you have a suggestion, or know a landmark she might want to check out, let her know! Community content This weeks community content is a video by qwizat, with a tour of his twin deeds eden and dune. His village is open to all new players, so if you're looking for somewhere to start your journey, contact him! There's a lot coming in the next few updates, and we haven't even begun to tease you all about the new skill coming to Wurm, what is it? You'll just have to wait and see Until then though, keep on wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  6. Esert Sunset - Joelle Esert Redesign with the Fire & Sand alliance Hi Everyone! Retrograde here with all the news and happenings on the dev and team side of Wurm. There's quite a few exciting things in the works (and some LONG LONG LONG desired) but alas, I cannot tease them just yet, I cannot wait to see them come in, so as soon as I'm given the green light, you'll know all about it! So lets get into this weeks news! Shatterproof potions The shatterproof potions which came with the rifts have been somewhat buggy for a long time, but with the last update they were adjusted and should now work correctly, providing 4-5 protections against cracks when channeling, and 1 protection against a shatter, the full details can be found in the last patch notes, but one bit that was missed was that it can be applied to any item, NOT JUST WEAPONS. So enjoy! A new Lead Chat Moderator I'd like to say a big welcome to our new Lead Chat Moderator, Idony! Idony has stepped into the role after the departure of Shrimpiie and will be working with the Community Assistants and Chat Moderators as they do their work. I look forward to working with her and the CA/CM team in the future Freedom epic mission building Based on feedback about fears of epic mission buildings being deeded and griefing issues stemming from that we'll be making a slight change to how ritual missions generate. Previously, and up until the introduction of this system, ritual missions generate from a total maximum pool of 18 buildings (3 temples, pylons, foundation pillars, spirit gates, shrines, obelisks). These are the ones that are completed as part of a mission requiring it. From the next update, ANY mission building off deed will be eligible for a ritual mission to generate on it, they will no longer need to be built in accordance with a specific mission. Again, this applies only to PvE ritual missions, chaos and epic will require the 18 and block deeding as usual. Unstable client work Unstable works continue, with more focus on improving performance and those crashes, with the memory allowance upped with the recent version. This might have been noticed by some as their client usage went up above 2GB, but this was due to giving the client more breathing room to work, which performed well. Some had some issues however, so we'll continue to look at those. More work with shaders in on the way, with this awesome comparison, can you spot the difference? Upcoming starter deed makeovers This week has seen proposals for two new starter deed makeovers, with blossom on Pristine and Whitefay being looked into. We'll be opening the proposals for Blossom some time this week in the Pristine subforum, and the whitefay one will follow shortly after, I'm keen to see what you all come up with, so get together and work out a proposal! Community content - I'm a star! This week saw the release of the Factional Fight episode starring me! I went through the midsummer event with the brothers and answered all of their questions (well, most of them, I can't tell everyone who my favourite dev is now, can I?) There's also a little teaser about something big upcoming, what do you think it is? I'd like to thank the Factional Fight guys for having me, and for all their work contributing to making Wurm as enjoyable as it is, I know I was hooked on their videos early on in the game, as I'm sure many of you all have been too, so thanks guys, and I'd like to also say Brian totally needs to start the videos with "Hello! How are you?" Right? Right. That's it for this weeks news, We'll be back this time next week with all new info, but until then, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
  7. Unknown deed - Seriphina Hi Everyone! Another patch down, and all new content for Wurm! This patch did have a hiccup with some clients, but this has been rectified for the most part, if you are having issues with the screen going black when entering a mine in unstable, turning on (or off) FXAA in post processing can help. But first... Patch Notes Unstable work As you may have noticed, work on the unstable client has continued, with the new post processing tab in settings with some new options Bloom - Added feathered glow to light edges FXAA - Anti Aliasing with better performance than existing AA in advanced graphics Vignette - Darkening window border this is of course on top of more performance work, and some big steps in memory management and overall look and feel, it's close to becoming the stable client, so make sure you try it out and get any and all issues back to us to address! Of course, when this goes stable there will be a brief crossover period where the old client is still available, but we'd rather have the unstable one running as smooth as possible first, which requires you! Tree size changes As noted in the patch notes yesterday the size of olive trees and chestnut trees has been reduced considerably, this is a preliminary step towards returning tree collisions. Many wurmians will know the pain of wandering through olive forests and getting eaten by spiders, so this will go a long way towards improving that "experience" while bringing back the immersion of trees blocking paths. Celebration creature tests As mentioned in Buddas devblog we've begun testing new creature movement code using Celebration as a live test run. We're looking for feedback on how animals behave and move around both in pens and the wild. Leave your feedback on this thread, but please do remember to keep it specific to feedback about the movement, off topic discussions and such might be removed. Epic buildings and Freedom This next update will introduce the ability to place a deed over Epic mission structures. This is a Freedom only feature at this point, and deeding over a mission structure will disqualify it from being used in missions. So if you do use any shrines or other mission buildings to protect land, be warned that this will no longer be the case! New wall textures the new wall textures are in the works, with current focus on introducing the following types Tall wall Portcullis fence Parapet High iron fence High iron fence gate Chain link fence These will of course come in the sandstone, slate, rounded stone, marble, rendered, and pottery textures. There may also be more fence types in the works, but they will come at a later date. I hope to have some sneak previews in the coming news, so stay tuned for that! Community Content This weeks community content comes from Zephyr Storm visiting the Mystic Highlands server with an awesome introduction and showcase, I do hope it turns into an ongoing thing, as I really enjoyed this! That's it for this week, I hope you all have a good weekend, and as always, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  8. Strongbox, Serenity - Blart Step right up Wurmians! Another week down and more news for you all, let's jump right in! Midsummer madness It's been an awesome week with the midsummer events, many of you got lost, scared, and some even went insane, which is about par for the course of any of our events! I'd like to thank you all for attending and hope you all enjoyed it, it'll run until the end of July and then we'll look at dismantling it, so make sure to attend before then and get your mask! Forum upgrades As many of you will have noticed we had some performance updates with the forums, hopefully eliminating the double posting and extra threads. We also included two factor authentication, which will provide even greater security for accounts on the forum moving forwards. While hopefully the larger issues have been resolved, we'll continue to work on tweaking the forums to ensure they are an enjoyable and easy experience for all (Not including the posts!) WU Beta Wurm Unlimited 1.4.0.0 is here! With all the bridge textures and underground changes, they mark the next major update to the game. The beta will run throughout the week and we'll keep an eye on any issues raised by those running it, before launching the live version, so stay tuned for that! Cave exits Some players asked about the ability to pave cave exits, and while the answer was that it was unlikely, it did get some cogs turning. With a bit (lot) of work, I'm pleased to announce they will be coming soon! There's a bit of work still being done but cave exits will be able to be paved! Cooking rarity and affinities As you all know we ran the in-game poll on cooking affinities, and the results were extremely close. With a difference of less than 1% of the total votes. Being such a close result, we have decided to go with keeping rarity affecting affinity on both cooking systems. This was the slightly favoured result and avoids those who have spent time learning their affinities on rare+ cookers losing that time spent. We appreciate everyone taking the time to share their thoughts on it, and will continue to use in-game polls for important issues such as this in the future. Community content I spend a fair amount of my time on YouTube watching Wurm videos, and the other day I stumbled across one, Riddles explores Wurm online. It's an amusing series that I hope continues, because I certainly enjoyed the first three, catch the first here: That's it from us this week, I hope you all have a great weekend, and as always, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  9. Unknown deed - Wiczan Glad Midsommar! Another busy week with the dev team, with the new bridges out of the way, what might be next? You'll have to read and find out But first.. Patch Notes More fences! With the release of the new textures and fences, many were asking about other possibilities, such as parapets, tall walls and other things. As we stated then, this work requires several major changes to expand possible fence types, and would be a little more intensive than simply adding the textures. I'm pleased to announce that this is a project currently underway, with the tall stone wall, portcullis, high iron fence/gate, stone parapet fences receiving the textures of slate, rounded stone, pottery brick, sandstone, rendered, and marble! This probably begins some players third or fourth deed remodels, but with more options available, who's complaining? Champion changes This week saw the changes of champions and how they work, going from a cap of 3 per god and 3 per kingdom to 1 per god per kingdom and 3 per kingdom. This means all kingdoms have equal opportunity of choosing their champions, so choose well! With this addition, Mol-Rehan kingdoms can now choose Fo and Vynora champions as well, with Jenn-Kellon kingdoms able to choose Magranon as a champion. Of course Libila remains HotS only. Midsummers on Xanadu Tomorrow is the launch of our Midsummer event on Xanadu, with a special unique prize for those who complete it. We have a sneak peek of the prize to tease you all with today! This unique Midsummers themed mask will only be available through this event, which will be open until the end of July, so make sure you get in and solve the mystery! Performance monitoring Over the coming weeks we'll be adding extra performance monitoring on servers, starting with a smaller undisclosed server. With this system we'll be able to track performance better and identify any areas of concern, which hopefully leads to tweaks and modifications to address the issues. This won't be run on the same server as the creature changes, but we'll of course continue to update you all as the weeks go on, showcasing the results and our goals for the future. Community Content This is slightly older, but forum user Iberis (Hexd) has been all over Exodus and is showing off her travels! Check out the sights and wonders of Exodus, I cannot wait to see where she goes next! That's it from us this week, I hope to see you all this weekend! Until then though, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
  10. Hi everyone! A big update today with underground bridges coming to Wurm! Underground housing was released just over a year ago, and it's come a huge way since then, with paving, new reinforcing, and now the bridges, what could be next? who knows... But first... Patch Notes Creature features So this week saw the devblog of Buddas touching on how the current mob AI works, as well as some plans to improve on that and hopefully see some better spreading of creatures across the servers. There'll be a bit of testing on the test server, then we'll move to one of the smaller servers, both to test that the system works in spreading out creatures as well as doesn't impact performance. It's an exciting change to come, so I'm keen to see how it plays out! Midsummers in Xanadu Hinted last week we'll be having a midsummer's event on Xanadu! The reason we chose Xanadu is because this event will run around a central location accessed from all starter deeds (much like the labyrinth). You won't need to bring a horse or travel, and since we'll have a special event only reward, people from Epic will be able to request a transfer ot the reward from Freedom to Epic! The event will start on Saturday the 24th of June at 16:00 server time (UTC+1) and will open from all starter deeds! WU beta delay Once we were sure that cave bridges would be coming out in this update we made the decision to delay the beta in time for this release, ensuring that the next beta will have lots more in it! I know it can be frustrating waiting for it to hit WU, but I can definitely say it's worth the wait. Player texture performance improvements This update also sees some improvements to player textures, meaning better performance in crowded areas such a PvP, events, and unique fights. We'll continue to monitor events like these to identify areas we can improve. Cooking poll This week saw a poll launched to follow up on rarity of ingredients, tools, and cookers affecting the resulting affinity of a meal. The poll is having some issues running on Xanadu, but you can cross servers to place a vote in if you still need to vote you can! We'll have the results of that poll in next weeks news. Community Content We talked about this last week, but it's here! The Factional Fight brothers are back with an awesome showcase of Linton. It's an amazing starter deed and they really put a lot of work into it, so you'll have to forgive me for milking it. Check out the video here in our brand new Showtime theatre, where you can share videos for both Wurm Online and Wurm Unlimited! If you have a video you'd like to have moved from from the artists bench please just report the post and our friendly mods will move it! That's it from us this week, I know you'll all be busy building, so keep on wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  11. The Golden Hive Market - Alyeska and Xallo Hi Everyone! Some big news this week, with a long awaited request finally able to be revealed! But first... Patch Notes What's that sound? Bridges underground! Thought the new bridge types was all the coming things for bridges? Guess again! Since bridges first came to Wurm, many have asked about the possibility of underground bridges, and with the coming update, this will be a reality! Bridges underground will check for clearance of the ceilings, but apart from that, will operate exactly how they do above ground. I'm keen to see what you all come up with, that's for sure! DNS Issues I'd like to thank you all for your patience and understanding during the server connectivity issues this week, you worked very hard to help each other stay connected. We hope you all enjoy the extra premium, and spend the sleep bonus wisely! As an additional reminder, if you did name any hard coded changes to get around the issue, please make sure to change those back! Linton reworked! Linton, aka the barren starter deed, has had a makeover! The team consisting of Griphyth, Faeran, Killroth and Karena have spent a lot of work building this up into an amazing starter town, with possibly the best lookout I've ever seen! I'm sure you'll all agree, it's a huge improvement on the original deed, and I'm thrilled with the results! Highway info! So with the upcoming release of the highway system we've started a thread with the information of what's behind the highway system, there's a brief rundown with a more in depth document available, so feel free to read through and ask any questions. Don't forget though, it's currently live on the test server, and we'll be working on a more official testing period soon! Community Content This weeks content is more of a question, with the suggestion of adding a specific sub-forum for videos, this would be a great opportunity for posting video tutorials, showcases, and plenty more! Would you like to see that done? let us know here! That's it for this week, I'm sure you're all excited for the bridges coming, I know i am! Until next time, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  12. The White turtle castle - Gofs (Picture by Evening) Hi everyone! Another week down, and we've been hard at work! Want to know what? Just read on! But first... Patch Notes WU update The beta version of the next WU update will be coming early next week, with everything up to yesterdays update going into it, this means the new bushes and almanac features will be coming, with the new bridge textures and features coming in the next update. Combat log updates With the next update we'll have a big change to how the combat log works, with the addition of more colours to differentiate different actions and also your relation to the other parties of the fight! Not only this, but these colours can be set by using the text colours of the client as shown This means that you'll be able to customise your combat log to suit your personal preferences, and keep your eye on the fight that much better! Creature combat improvements Work has begun on improving creature combat, and first off the rank is the Uttacha! These combat improvements will be coming to Epic in the next update, if you want to find out what the new moves are, you'll have to wait and see for yourselves! Map Dumps Just over six months ago we released the last map dumps, and I'm pleased to say new ones are in the works! We don't have a release yet, but they may come in with the new highway system being launched, so keep your eyes peeled! Paving on bridges Final touches with the big changes to bridges are in the works, with underground bridges and the paving under testing and tweaking, I'm super keen to see this come, and can't even begin to imagine all the plans you have currently going on, I want to see them all! Midsummer fun Midsummers is a big tradition in Sweden, and we've got a special event planned for it! On the weekend of the 24th of June we'll be launching an event on Xanadu, with a unique prize for completing it. What is the prize? You'll just have to wait and see... Factional fight is back! I'm thrilled to see the Factional Fight guys back in action, with their awesome new introduction. Anyone not familiar with their videos will HAVE to spend the next few days brushing up on them all, they've been companions to many a wurmians grinding days, and I can imagine we're all keen on seeing their new video next week! That's it for this week, I look forward to sharing more with you all next time, but until then though, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
  13. Port catnip lighthouse by day - Iberis This week marks two changes in our team while we work on the addition of new bridge types and the highway system, there's a bit to share on these two but first... Patch Notes Team additions Many of you may know Jberg as GM Logi, a long standing member of the staff team, and constant pesterer of pingpong. He has made the decision to join us as a developer and donate even more time to helping the game improve and grow. I'd like to be the first to welcome him to the team and I look forward to his contributions! Our other addition is an extremely hard working wiki editor, Wolfey, will be stepping up to the role of Assistant Wiki Manager, under Seedlings, who said the following: If you'd like to help improve the wiki, we have both team and non team positions available, to check out the differences and apply, read here: More bridge work! Along with the new textures (and the rendered one shown below) we have something else coming with the new bridges, and that is the ability to prepare and pave any bridge surface, allowing you all to continue fancy roadways across them! This is an early work, and there's a lot to work out, but we're keen on seeing these come to life and what you'll all do with them! We also have the rendered bridge available for preview now too! Highway system The highway system changes are undergoing internal testing currently (with the test server being covered in expanding roads) but there's a lot to go over, and at times it can be quite technical. Over the coming week we'll be looking at documentation for those who like to get into the nitty-gritty of the system, as well as a short guide in laymans terms. We'll then run some public testing and use the feature feedback board to answer your questions about how they work in specific situations. Community Content Normally I try to avoid covering similar things in a short timeframe with the community content, but I've had no fewer than 7 people contact me about Iberis's tour of deliverance video, it's an amazing video and SHE has done an excellent job showing the beauty of deliverance, so without further ado, enjoy! That's it for this week from us, I hope you all have a great weekend, and as usual, keep on wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  14. All is pristine - Kasumi Hi Everyone! First of all, apologies for the hiccup with last nights update, I hope you're all enjoying the additions (I've seen many of you running around scribbling down reports!) and look forward to some information on what's to come, but first... Patch Notes Update issues While we endeavour to test everything we can some times we cannot replicate enough scenarios on test before things go live, or they have completely unintended side effects. We really do appreciate everyone understanding and we will be making some changes to ensure that if things like this happen again a rollback wouldn't be such a painful option. Hopefully it's not one that's needed any time soon, but we'd like to know that if such a situation occurs we can remedy the situation with much less impact than the potential loss. We're still looking into a decision regarding compensation, and will update you all accordingly. If you lost a vein and would like it replaced please log a support ticket for our GM team to handle that, it takes a little bit of time to do so as we verify from our info, but they will all be processed as fast as possible. More Bridges?! Hot off the heels of the new house textures, comes our new bridge textures! Just the way to style up your deed, we'll be introducing these beautiful works! Sandstone Slate Pottery Round Stone As you can see, they're absolutely gorgeous, and will delay my deed choices even further `Wurmpedia improvements We've also been at work behind the scenes with the wurmpedia, and will be introducing three new namespaces: Historical - This will be used for official Wurm data that is no longer present in the game (for example, old maps to servers that don't exist, removed features). Anyone with an editor account can access these pages, but not user accounts. Lore - This will be used for player-made stories and history, and can be accessed on user accounts. Guides - Player-made guides will go here. We will have some official bias-free guides on the wiki in the main namespace, but anything else can go in this namespace. Accessible by user accounts. These namespaces will help users write their own stories, store old information, and write new guides, so it's a great day for the wiki, and therefore, the game. Community content This weeks community content comes from eyesgood, who celebrated his EIGHTH year in wurm by dedicating a little poem to it, and I think it's awesome Here's to eight more! That's it for this week folks, I hope you're as keen for the bridges as I am, until then though, keep on wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
  15. Trollwood Keep - Amadee HI Everyone! This week we touch on some more content coming in the next update, with the almanac! There's also info on CA help for the Epic cluster, so why are you still reading this? The almanac An ages old tool for farmers and other crop growers, an almanac is a calendar with important information such as tides, astronomical data, seasons and crops. For Wurm, it will be used to check up on when bushes, trees and trellises will bear fruit! That's right, you'll be able to keep a record telling you when every harvestable item is ripe, and for how long it will be ripe. The almanac will require studying a bush, tree or trellis during its harvest season to collect the information on it, and skill will determine just how much information you can collect and ql of the report will determine how far in the future you can see harvest times. These reports are then stored inside the almanac. Once collected, anyone may use the almanac to check on harvest times and read up on information about the reports they have stored inside. You can even check with a handy command of /almanac (You will need the reports in your almanac to see each harvest season though!) The almanac will also include little bits of information on each harvested produce, with a definite Wurmian twist. New Bushes Those of you with a keen eye will notice something in the above picture, and that's three new harvestable bushes! Blueberries, Raspberries and lingonberries will become bushes that have their own harvest times, Epic CA help This next update we'll be introducing a new CA help for epic, JK help, MR help, and HotS help! These help channels will be across all epic servers, but restricted to each kingdom, names will also not show the server tag, so you can still help while raiding! It's the first step towards improving our support for new players on Epic, we'll have to wait for this to go live before testing (as we don't have 4 test servers to setup the scenario) and we'll continue to adjust anything we need to. WU beta to live delays Due to the last update, we'll be including some last minute fixes and tweaks in the beta, which will extend it to next week, this is to make sure we don't have to force another update our beta version before going to live, sorry about the delay, but delaying is smoother than a second update later on in case something breaks! Caption this Winner The winner of this weeks caption this is Mordraug! We couldn't go past this one PvP updates Ongoing PvP updates include continued balances and tweaks to the catapulting and siege weapons, and also a discussion on changes to how kingdom influence works on PvP servers. These projects are aimed at improving foundation mechanics as we take steps towards the larger overhauls, projects are in the works and we'll be looking at a bigger roadmap to show what is currently being worked on and what is being planned. Check out the kingdom influence discussion here: Community Content This week I'd like to take a moment to put the spotlight on Wurmhole, who opened a thread offering to pay 1 months premium for five players, and asked others to nominate people. While I missed the pm about pizza (damnit!) I think this is an even better use of the income from this sale, and it's amazing to see Wurmians come together to recognise other players, new and old alike for their work in helping one another and I'd like to congratulate those who received the premium time, you've certainly earned it! That's it for this week from us, there's more to come in the oncoming weeks before the big update, and we may just be saving the best for last! What is it? You'll just have to wait and see! Until then though, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
  16. Hi Everyone! Another week has come and gone, and it's time to share with you all what's been happening on our side of things, so buckle up! Roadmap Of course the big talk of the town this week is the roadmap for the next few months. While it doesn't list everything we have planned (There are plenty of other updates and projects in the works) but these are the big ones, with of course most focus being on the UI and tutorial, but the other works are equally important, and we'll be sure to have long periods of testing and feedback before they're fully introduced. Web shop items A lot of discussion has revolved around purchasable items from the web shop. Our plans for stage one are the Golden mirror, which will allow players to change genders (and then looks) which has been a long desired item. We also plan to include several trader items as well. Beyond that we will continue to look at potential items and the best way to implement them. There have been many thoughts on this (both positive and negative) and they are all things that have been raised and discussed internally as well, we will take these steps slowly to ensure they come out and integrate as smoothly as possible, without compromising the core of Wurm's focus on player created worlds. GM auctions Step right up! As you recall we mentioned our plans with the aftermath of a rather nasty charge-back case to auction off seized goods in order to provide some compensation to the players affected. This weekend we're launching the GM auction house, with the first wave of listings going up around the time of this news posting. The unique twist on these is they are available on both Epic AND Freedom. That's right, it doesn't matter what server you're on, a GM will ensure that your winning items are delivered to you! All proceeds will be split up and shared with those affected by the actions of this banned user accordingly. for the full overview of them please read the sticky at the top of the official auctions section: Underground decorating Along with our teaser of tiled walls now comes an awesome new feature, underground paving! You'd be forgiven for thinking this was simply in a large house, but with the next update you'll be able to pave underground tiles as well in 3 easy steps! 1. Reinforce floor 2. prepare reinforced floor with mortar 3. Pave prepared floor with pavement of your choice This really expands how you can design your cave, and that's not all! With next update Tile borders will be visible in caves. This means you can tell the slopes underground! We're also planning the ability to build fences underground on deed only, to avoid potential issues. As is often the way with works in progress and feedback, we've changed how the decorating of reinforced walls works. Instead of creating a special reinforcement, using a trowel on an existing reinforced wall will give the option to begin building a clad wall, which will then be used to build on and create the finished wall. (Half finished walls have their own texture too) Affinity changes So as many of you probably know, some calculations in determining what affinity players get from meals led to some players not being able to get all possible results. Naturally this is an issue we needed to address, but the problem we faced was how. Changing any calculation would mean all players affinities would change, and given how much work you have all put into finding them, was not an ideal situation. The system was fixed prior to it going live to WU, so we knew the replacement system worked, but the problem was applying it to those who felt they needed it, so we created a simple toggle for players to switch from the current system to the new one. Those who have spent time working on finding all their affinities, and who have no desire to switch to the new system may stay as is, and not have a single thing change for them, but those who could not get an affinity they wanted, or who felt limited by the potential bugged affinities will be able to change the affinity system for their character via the profile menu (as the picture states, once you switch to the new system you cannot move back to the old). As an aside note with the new system, rarity of cooker (campfire, oven, forge) will not affect the affinity given by the end result, so if you choose to switch to that system the rarity will only increase the timer duration, not what affinity it gives (it does both currently). Once this is introduced, all new accounts will by default be on the new system, we feel this accomplishes the double task of fixing affinities for those who wish to have them fixed, and also allowing those who have found what they want and wish to keep it to do so. Community Content This weeks community content is from a forum user Iberis, who is sharing her (apologies, my animal husbandry is low) adventures across Freedom and Chaos, and some pretty awesome PvP videos too (no swearing!) Check out the videos and blog posts from the forums here: That's it from me this week, I hope you all have a safe and happy weekend, and as always, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  17. Rendered lighthouse - Yaga With this weeks update out of the way, we begin to look forward to our next content update, so updates will be light until then (if at all), but there's plenty coming! We'll be showcasing a few things over this period, detailing what to expect and just how awesome it will be, but first... Patch Notes Eye of the...cat? Some keen eyes spotted glowing green objects in last weeks shots, and I'm sure many of you have been wondering about their function. Today we unveil the beginning of our plans for a revamped highway system! Freedom highway rules have long been a necessity to ensure ongoing infrastructure does not disappear overnight, but often winds up being a slow process with paperwork and permissions. With this in mind, we've been taking steps to return the majority of control into players hands with highways, with a new highway system. Those items are called catseyes, and are the foundation of a huge new highway system, allowing players to build, link, and protect highways across all PvE servers without requiring GM assistance and permissions. The system will involve connecting existing routes to highways and also come with a waypoint system, providing markers to local villages (when opted in) and starter deeds. Navigating your way around the server, identifying the nearest starter town and local villages will be a breeze. Villages can also choose not to be included in the waypoint marking, although any highways running through a village will mean KOS is not possible (this will now be enfored with mechanics rather than general rulings). Altering the highway is not possible without removing link protection and rerouting meaning less paperwork for the GM team and also smoother operations for you all. This won't mean the elimination of all highway rules, wanton destruction of highways and other abuses will still fall under freedom rules, but less necessity in requiring GM approval, and also allows caves to be protected too! What will change with this is the redefining of what consists of a highway, In the past single paved roads bordered by sand (gravel is okay!) have also been included, with the release of this it will be strictly 2 or 3 tile wide paved roads, so if you wish to update any single tile paths in your area in anticipation of this new system please do log a support ticket. There will also be an overlap period to allow existing highways to be marked with the new system upon its release, giving everyone plenty of time to understand the new system when it launches (we will be working extensively with the wiki team to ensure that all information is provided prior to the update) so don't worry about being caught off guard WU live The latest beta will go live to Wurm Unlimited some time next week, stick in our discord or follow us on Facebook to know the exact date closer to its release Dev team expansion This week we’d like to welcome Keenan to the dev team even more than currently with his contracted hours increasing so he is now officially a part time developer for Wurm. His focus in the short term will be mostly on backend systems and a few different projects that have been sitting on the backburner waiting for someone skilled enough to take control of them, but we wish him luck in his work and having to deal with Budda on a more regular basis. We’d also like to welcome Ausimus to the team who has recently joined as a volunteer developer as well. After much experience working with Wurm Unlimited code and creating mods, he has already made his mark with a couple of bug fixes that went live with this weeks update. Community Content This weeks community content is already extremely well known, her project has been features in massively OP, vice, and several other sites too, so I'd like to take a moment to show you all just how awesome it is!z Our very own Malena has been hard at work in recreating the world of Ultima Online in Wurm, and it's amazing, check out the first video in her series here!: Check out the full thread of her adventures here! Caption this!Following from the awesome captions from our last contest, I've decided to host another, with this weeks top caption receiving a key for 1 months premium. This caption comes from the citizens of san escobar, with the amazing Wurm car! That;s it for this week! Next week we'll cover a few more things coming in the next update, so I'll see you all then. Until then though, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
  18. Elentari is a monster Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a good Easter break, I know I did! We're still in the follow up phase to our latest update, addressing a few bugs that have arisen as well as the usual post-live tweaks, but that doesn't mean we haven't been hard at work, but first... Patch Notes Reinforcing in style Reinforced walls are quite boring, and with the introduction of new house walls, our devs got to thinking.... Coming soon to a cave near you, we'll be introducing stylish reinforcements! These will be created with improved reinforcement beams and really decorate your cave! We're also looking at cave floors as well, but no confirmation on that yet. CA Help Merging following some back end changes for us, we'll be merging CA help across all freedom servers next update. once it's done we'll monitor it over the next week or so to ensure that it still flows smoothly and will be able to revert it if it proves to be too chaotic. With this done we'll also begin looking at options for addressing CA help on Epic servers, and will be working towards a resolution that improves new player experiences on Epic servers while still meeting our conduct requirements. WU beta We're still in the process of ironing out some bugs appearing within the new housing update, and once theyre done we'll have a beta up for WU, we expect that to be available within the week, with the live version following shortly after Gloomshade revamp Excited to play with the new walls, Enki and I had our turn updating the starter deeds, and this time it was Gloomshades turn! The HotS Elevation starter deed has been given a bit of a revamp, and I'm totally biased) Community Content This weeks community content I found while looking through the huge collection of WU screenshots, and it has to be the most amazing wagon design I've ever seen. I don't know what server it's from, but if it's yours, let me know so I can update this! Future PMK's, take note! That's it for this weekend, I hope you all have a good weekend, and as always, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
  19. And we're live with the new housing update! I know everyone's busy hunting sandstone and making bricks (red brick for me!) so this week will be a short recap before the Easter long weekend, but first... Patch Notes Housing update Naturally the big part of this update is the huge expansion to house types, and I'm excited to see just what you all come up with now, I know that there are other desired wall types and fences and we'll keep this in mind as we move forward. We're always expanding and addressing limitations as we meet them and this is no different. We will undoubtedly continue to provide more options as time goes on, just plenty else to work on as well while we do. Easter We're nearing the eve of the anniversary of the horrific bunny massacre of 2016, and I'd like to take the moment to wish you all a happy and safe Easter, don't party too hard on the chocolate eggs! Hot Cross buns! We've also released a new recipe for hot cross buns to celebrate Easter! Hot cross buns are my favourite part about Easter, and I think it's pretty cool to see some more holiday themed recipes come in, we may just do more later... WU Beta With the launch of the housing update, we'll begin looking at a WU beta to come out in the next week or two with the update, there's a few changes to things that may need some modders to check in the beta but it shouldn't last long before going live. Community Contest winner! There were quite a few good entries, and it came close to some (Who doesnt love Star Wars references?) but the winner of this contest is MacOofer with the following: To claim your prize, shoot me a PM MacOofer! The amount of people who took the time to add their ideas was awesome, will definitely have to repeat this in the future! There's a lot more already being worked on, and I'm keen to begin sharing it with you all in preparation for its launch, but that may be a few weeks away still. I'll be back next week with more news and showing off just what we've been up to on our side, but until then week, keep on Wurming! Happy Easter, Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  20. Milosanx on a rare trip down to water level Hey everyone! This week saw the changes to conversion come live, and the positive feedback has been noticed! We're working on a few things and will have more to share as they flesh out, but one thing is coming to the test server this weekend! but first... Patch Notes The Cowtapult! Those of you who follow us on Facebook may have already seen this, but we've been hard at work improving siege weapon mechanics, and first up is the catapult and trebuchet! Catapults and trebuchets should damage creatures, houses, fences, bridges and items that the projectile hits Clarification: It will hit ALL walls if it hits multiple. It will only hit one non wall item on the tile it lands on The new mechanics for them operate similarly to how they currently work, with focus on improving how the physics calculations are performed and remove those weird cases where they don't hit anything. We'll be setting up some testing scenarios such as house on a tall dirt wall and such over the weekend for you to check out, but we'd also like to know what scenarios you want to check out, so feel free to share ideas that you'd like us to setup for you to test. Our priority is getting all of them tested with different projectiles, distances and skill levels in PvP and PvE Scenarios both on and off deed to ensure they're balanced when they go live, so stay tuned for the test thread opening some time this weekend Variety is the spice of life Not one to rest on their laurels, the devs have been working hard on a long desired addition to the building, new house walls! This is a huge addition, with six new building types: Rendered wall Marble wall Pottery brick wall Round brick wall Sandstone brick wall Slate brick wall Pottery and sandstone Round stone and Rendered Marble and Slate That's not all though, there's new fence types to match the housing types, as well as a few additions and changes the paving! there will be a few new paving types, as well as a few changes to existing ones: Round cobble will use a new item round stone (same as round brick housing) Rough cobble will use Colossus bricks Slate slabs will be created by a chisel on combined slate shards like other slabs and some new pavement types you'll have to wait and see! The basics are up (without graphics) for internal testing, we'll have more info on the new types and a full list in next weeks news, this was far too exciting not to share though! Community Content This weeks community content is about a lost horse! Poor Rageed traveled off on his own one fateful night, and sparked fear for his safety in the heart of Ayuna, who cared for him. Luckily though, he was recovered safe and sound! Have you had a favourite pet? That's it from us this week, I'll see some of you on test, but until then, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  21. Hear ye hear ye! and welcome to the latest edition of the Valrei International, filling you in on what's been going on and what's in store for all Wurmians! Make a date! With final testing on siege weapons underway and the new housing in the works we're able to set the date for the next update! Pending any issues with the implementation of the graphics we have scheduled the next update for the 13th of April, so make sure you're all stocked up and ready to roll! Spot something? Community Assistant admin changes We've had a few delays in pushing this out, but we're making a few changes to CA administration and CA help. Lead Chat Moderator Shrimpiie will be taking over the admin duties of the CA team, bringing them back into the fold of the LCM team and he will be handling the application processes from now. We'll also be looking at taking steps towards merging CA help across all freedom servers in order to ensure that we have the absolute best coverage as we can. This means that if a CA is on anywhere they'll be able to answer questions and provide support, and also means we can track the helpful players and drag recruit them into the CA team! The transition has been a tad delayed so I'd like to apologise to those who are waiting to hear back on their CA applications, and we'll work on having them all processed as soon as possible. Sign of the times Next update will also include text on signs in WO! they've been in WU for some time, so we're glad to see them come to WO as well New tiles! Well, last week teased the new tiles, but showed no graphics, so I'm pleased to share the new graphics here! Those of you with a keen eye will notice that the sandstone slab floor is the old stone slab floor, the new stone slab floor for houses will have the same grey stone texture as the tile slabs, and sandstone slab floors in houses will have the current stone slab textures. Based on feedback concerns about sandstone availability, I can confirm that sandstone will now be a vein type, and can be created with a transmutation rod! Siege weapon testing Seige weapon testing continues over the weekend with release planned for next week, so make sure to continue testing and giving feedback, there's plenty of supplies to do so on the PvP server and PvE server, if you need anything else, just post on the thread or jump in IRC! Valrei spawn tweaks Next update will tweak how valrei creatures spawn, instead of spawning 10 in one area, they will be spawned in a wider area across the server, avoiding the congestion of many in one place becoming too hard to overcome. This will hopefully improve the valrei creatures being somewhat annoying on epic as we work on addressing them individually in a future update Community Content Contest So with the new houses coming next week I'm sure you're all itching to get your hands on them and build them all, but what will you use? It just so happens that I have a very shiny trowel that needs a new home, and I'm giving you all the chance to win it! To win this beauty, we'll be having a contest for this weeks community content, it's caption time! Simply provide a caption to this image, and whoever wins will be the brand new owner of this supreme steel trowel, with a 100(!) BotD cast. We'll also be running this on Facebook, so get on there and submit your captions too! That's it for this week, I hope you're all busy preparing for the deed remodeling! Until then though, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  22. House of Kha - Affliction Hi Everyone! Another week down and more action on the test server, with siege weapon testing underway and some people snooping around at the updated housing (no graphics yet though!). Time to fill you in on what's been going on in the world of Wurm. Samool Joins the dev team! I'd like to give a big welcome to our newest volunteer dev Samool! Samool has been a member of the volunteer team for some time, and has stepped in to help with optimising and improving the new client. I'd like to give him a warm welcome to the dev team and look forward to seeing his work on the new client come out! Sandstone Some clever people on test have worked out we have a new rock tile, Sandstone! Sandstone will be randomly seeded on rock tiles throughout the world, and have 40-50 hits in each, and the shards can be made into sandstone bricks or slabs. Check out a preview of the sandstone slab tile here: Siege weapon testing Siege testing on the test servers continues, with several changes already in, and battering rams now added! There's been a lot of work on improving how catapults and trebuchets work, improving the usefulness of archery towers and turrets, and now battering rams have been added to testing. I've been building some test scenarios for the weekend of testing, including deed walls and token pits, so make sure to jump on and check it out! Full thread can be found here: New pavement Along with the new walls, is new pavement! Adding to the potential pavement list is Slate slabs (existing slate slabs will be changed to slate brick tiles), sandstone brick and slab tiles, marble brick tiles, and pottery brick tiles. This means a lot more new options for decorating your deed, and making your place truly unique! Cave dwelling changes Of course, some have asked about how the additional houses will have any effect on underground housing, and the answer is, yes! With this update all housing options will be available for underground dwellings, meaning you can build your underground village just how you want it! Dredging changes Also in an upcoming patch, we'll be improving dredging with some long desired changes. Dredging will now have an option to flatten or level tiles, and also dredging will deposit dirt straight into your boat! This will only work if there's space in the dredge, but these two changes will definitely make dredging a lot easier! Hedges Removing hedges will become a lot easier next update, with the ability to cut down a hedge with an axe! The damage dealt will be dependent on the ql and height of the hedge, but should improve removing those pesky remains from fallen deeds. Community Content This weeks community content is another video by kaydawg, with his video of setting up in Wurm online. I thoroughly enjoyed the introduction and will definitely be waiting for more! A close second is the timelapse video of MootRed's new deed, i have a special spot for timelapse videos, they really show just how much can be done in the game! that's it for this week from us, we're working towards a big update with a lot of awesome changes, so stay tuned! Until then though, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  23. Nowe Wszczniesz by Warlander Top of the morning to ye Wurmians! It's another Valrei International, keeping you up to date with everything going on in your world, so let's get to it! In light of some discussions this week, I'd like to go over a few things we're working on, while the PvP roadmap coming later will have a bit more info on some things. PvP updates There's a lot in the works with PvP related overhauls, including the Valrei system as well as priests and spells. These projects are currently under the way as we speak, but these are not simple tasks. Many factors include identifying how the system is supposed to work, what does and doesn't work with the current system, what we want the system to be and how we want it to work and how prospective changes would fit in with the rest of the game. Once we have a firm plan ironed out, we'll then begin involving you all in feedback and testing, seeing what needs to be tweaked and adjusted, as well as looking at the overall feel of it and how it meshes in. We completely understand that this is frustrating when you're waiting for it, but it does take time, we'll be seeing a few minor things going out to tone down the effects of valrei (Such as removing terraforming events next update) as well as reducing stun timers from nogumps and other creatures (last update). There's a lot to go through and we'll continue to work on it, as well as work to make sure that you all are kept up to date with what's going on. We're committed to improving PvP, and we'll be providing a bit more PvP oriented road map soon, with Budda breaking out his thesaurus to work on his first devblog! I don't know when that will land, but stay tuned! Conversions So many of you might have seen the thread about HotS conversions to player gods where we agreed that it was a less than ideal system. The task we face now is rewriting the outdated conversion system with one that performs better, and makes a bit more sense. This system will allow HotS players to follow player gods, I'm not sure whether it will be BL only player gods or include WL ones, and more info will be given prior to release, but I wanted to share with you all that the current system will be changed fairly soon, being on test within the next two weeks or so. Unstable is a bit more stable! Good news everyone! We've managed to identify and resolve the disconnect issue with the unstable client! This opens the door for us to address the other issues that arise with the new client, and begin the final bug fixing prior to it becoming the stable client. So please do test it out and play on it and provide all feedback on performance and crashing issues you encounter. If you don't test it now when it's unstable you might encounter an issue when it goes live, and that means trouble! One important thing to remember is there are several new settings in the new client, including shadow map size, and dynamic lighting. Both of these improve the look and feel of the game greatly, but do also impact performance if you run on the lower end, so I'd advise starting with a new configuration, and tweaking it as it goes. Grab the unstable client and give it a go here: http://www.wurmonline.com/client/wurmclient_unstable.jnlp Xanadu Improvements We've isolated a few issues causing Xanadu's lag, and some may have noticed that things occur a little faster on Xanadu than they used to (coal piles burning!) We've got some other things in the works to address them, and hopefully they improve performance as well! Community Content And Milosanx returns with a new video from wu! It's always great to see videos from him, and it's a good overview of the new Otherlands server, which opened with the release of 1.3, so check it out! Vortac and Weem have also been hard at work with their Follywood series, which I have enjoyed greatly (and pestered several people with links to) So make sure you check those out as well! That's it from me this week, so have a good weekend everyone, and as always, keep on Wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.
  24. Foggy Docks Hi Everyone, A huge week for WU, with 1.3 finally landing, and what an impact! I've seen fantastic meals, pink bee hives, and cows no taller than your knee (the mods some people think of!) We've got a bit to cover though, so here goes! But first... Patch notes Deliverance maintenance On the 11th of march at 1400 server time we'll be taking down deliverance for some extended maintenance to address the hanging issues that have occurred recently. This will be a slightly longer maintenance, at around 2-3 hours, so if you want to play, maybe it's time to take a holiday to Exodus, or Release! 1.3 in WU and sale Wurm Unlimited has been abuzz this week with 1.3 finally landing, it's taken a while but WU is now filled with al lthe awesome content we've had for a few months. If you're looking to get in on the action, it's currently on sale at 33% off! We'll also be looking at more WU specific subforums over the coming weeks, for WU specific suggestions, and bettert bug reporting too, so keep eyes peeled. More animations Today also sees more animations come to the game, with the following being introduced: Groom Pull Throw (combat and snowballs) Take Drop These will continue to create that more immersive feel when playing and we'll continue to look at animations that increase that as we go on. Hell horse and horse gear This update also saw the hell horse colours, as well as hell horse equipment and bridles (bridles are awaiting a client update due out shortly!) The hell horse colours are incredibly awesome, and I have to say, this one is definitely my favourite, but which is it? dun dun dun.... Esert makeover As many of you know, we ran the Esert starter deed makeover competition this week, and a clear winner by a mile was the redesign! I'm keen to see this design come to life, so congratulations to Joelle and crew. You'll have to keep your eyes peeled on the area! Community content So this weeks community content is a little different. With 1.3 out in WU youtube streamer Weem is back, and this time he brought friends! Weem did a fantastic series of WU on the Mythmoor server and starting tomorrow he's launching his new series - called Follywood - on the otherlands server. I can't wait to see it, and in the mean time, I strongly suggest checking out his previous series here: That's it from me this week, I hope you all have an awesome weeekend cooking and crafting, and as always, keep on Wurming! - Retrograde & the Wurm team
  25. I actually forget who did this one but I really like it Hi Everyone! An exciting weekend ahead of us as we near the final countdown towards 1.3 landing in Wurm Unlimited! so before all that, let's catch up on a few things Wurm Unlimited webpage Now we've had http://www.wurmunlimited.com since the launch, but it's been mostly a landing page for this time. That's about to change though! We'll be using it as the devblog page for news about WU, as well as other giveaways and features, along with full detail patch notes and beta releases. Our dev blogs can be found at : http://www.wurmunlimited.com/category/devblog/ Major reason for this is it doesn't fit in with the Wurm Online news (and gets lost) and we'd like a place away from Steam (1.3's patch notes exceed the 32,000 character limit!) So expect that site to get it's makeover soon! WU 1.3 release As you all probably know, the big WU release is nearing it's time with the 6th of march set as the date. The update will most likely be around midday CET, but we'll put a time up in #wurmunlimited when we know for sure. Catching up Some of you may remember the post about clearing the dust of 2016 and addressing the "niru case" back at the end of the year, that's not forgotten! We're currently looking at what we can do and formulating a plan on how we go about achieving our goals. Players trading is a huge part of this game and it's unfortunate when some take advantage of others, I'm glad to see many do still work with each other with trust. Choose your recipe! Of course we now have the voting up for the recipe competition for 1.3 in WU! Pick your favourite recipe and the top three winners will get their names on the recipe ingame! These recipes will also come to WO, so make sure to pick a good one! Teaser We showed a few hell horse colours last week, but what colour is this?! Community Content - Esert makeover comp So uh, a tad late, but better late than never! The entry is up for voting, and I must say, it looks amazing (I did say it!) Check out and vote here: That's it for this week, we're extremely excited for 1.3 to land in WU, and I know you all are, until then though, keep on wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team
