  2. Welcome to Hindleap Horses! Situated in a peaceful forest just west of Summerholt, I breed the 8 'new' colours mainly, but I generally get other colours too. I'm aiming to produce a mixture of horses bred for speed and draft traits, ideally with the 'certain spark' trait which increases horses' life span by 3 months to a total of 9 months of life. **Notes on the new traits system** Since the recent animal husbandry update, there have been many changes to the traits system. The details on the update can be found here, but I'll put a brief explanation on what it means for horses, donkeys and mules here. Instead of the old 5 speed horses which were the best you could make, there are now 4 speed horses. These are functionally the same for riding. Horses with 3 or more speed traits have the new 'hot blooded' body shape, which is similar to that of real Arabian horses. The new speed traits are: You'll notice that only 3 of those traits affect movement on land, which is what we're doing 99% of the time! So if you get a 3 speed horse that's only lacking the accustomed to water (AW) trait, you have as good a riding horse as a 4 speed. There is a 5th rare speed trait, 'it is unbelievably fast' (UF), which means the animal is 'always on speed bonus similar to hell horses'. Rare traits are, obviously, rare; but when combined with the other 4 speed traits will be the fastest horses we can get. We now also have draft traits which affect an animal's ability to pull vehicles. Horses with 3 or more draft traits get the 'cold blooded' body type which is like a real Shire or Clydesdale horse. There are 4 common draft traits which are as follows: Similar to the speed traits, there is a trait that doesn't affect pulling ability, but the damage taken to gear (EG). This again means that draft horses with only the other 3 traits will be as useful for pulling vehicles as those with 4 draft traits. There are 2 rare draft traits, 'it seems stronger than normal' (SN) which gives a bonus to their ability to carry, and 'it seems more nimble than normal' (NN) which increases the maximum ridable slope. Draft horses are better than speed horses for pulling vehicles, but remain reasonable riding horses when equipped with good gear. **How to find me** Hindleap is in G23 on Xanadu as shown above. There is a main road from Summerholt and the turnoff onto the gravel path to Hindleap is signposted. There is access by water from the north and just to the south at the Nexa Market and Sanctuary. Delivery to all coastal areas is available, and to other areas on request.   3. Hello all! I thought I'd record some of my experiences with output traits and their effect on milk and wool output. I have a herd of sheep I'm trying to breed output traits into for personal use and sale. For full disclosure, these are the results I get with 48.88 milking and 91.32 animal husbandry. For shearing I use 85.80ql iron scissors with 75coc, and I use a 46.98ql cedar bucket with a volume rune for milking. The traits I'm looking at today are: It seems vibrant - Increases the output of resources It gives more resources - Increases output of resources such as wool and milk It has very good genes - Increased amount and quality of resources like milk and wool I'm not taking into account other traits, whatever category they are from. First lets look at some control sheep. Happysheep is an aged ram with no output traits. He gives me 0.40kgs of wool, and on this shearing the ql was 92.90ql, normal for me. Apple is an aged ewe with no output traits, and gives me 2kgs of milk each time. Now sheep with 'it gives more resources'. Ambrose is another aged ram with tha trait. He gives me 0.44kgs of wool which today was 100ql. I have found that my output sheep consistently give 100ql wool more often than non output sheep. 'Vibrant' sheep next. Banjo is an aged ram with only the vibrant trait from the output category. He gives me 0.48kgs of wool, and this shearing it was 97.28ql. I lack adult ewes with only 'vibrant' or 'gives more resources', but I do have ewes with both traits. Pinkie is one such ewe, and is also aged. She gives me 2.60kgs of milk. Her wool output is also increased, giving me 0.52kgs which this shearing was 100ql. Finally, my best sheep. Rosalind is aged and has the 'vibrant' trait as well as the rare output trait 'it has very good genes'. Her milk output is a huge 4.40kgs per milking! And she gives me 0.88kgs of wool, this time at 100ql. All in all, output traits are definitely worth breeding for if you want more milk for that cheese grind, or better ql wool to imp your tapestries. I haven't looked at any traits that affect the output of butchery items, because I refuse to kill my beloved sheeps, or butcher them after they die. Honourable burials only! I assume the above traits affect cows and bison the same way. And if anyone is breeding output cows, please pm me! EDIT I have a sheep with just the 'vibrant' trait old enough to be milked and sheared. She's an adolescent ewe called Sunflower. Today she gave me 2.40kgs of milk, and 0.24kgs of wool at 92.96ql. I also have a 'gives more resources' ewe now, adolescent Freyja. She gives me 2.20kgs of milk, and 0.22 kgs of wool, this time at 98.41ql.
  4. So I'm unsure if this is a bug or a feature, but I reckoned it couldn't help to report it anyway! I have a barn that my sheep go in in winter (I can't leave them all shorn outside in the snow!) and this has been the first winter they've used it. I'm just doing the shearing rounds, and I noticed this: [18:11:20] An aged fat sheep 'Celeste' eats some hay stack. Now I didn't put any hay in their troughs, but there is some on the floor above in the hay loft! Here is an image of the hay loft. And for the record, Celeste has never been up there.
  5. Because lately I wanted to check if grooming has a postive effect on wool ql I set up a small test and noticed that I couldn't shear some sheep. After a bit more investigation it turned out that while I could not shear some sheep that day I could shear others several times, up to 4 times a day on one of my rams. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but the wiki says that you can shear the sheep approximately 1 time a day. That not my experience in the current version of the game.
  6. This is a slightly odd post, but I figured it's worth a try! I recently returned to the game after a break of some time, and discovered that my beloved black sheeps had all died. I had thought I had a ewe cared for, but sadly poor Truffle is no more. I spent about 5 years breeding up my herd so I was rather upset to discover them all gone. Now I have sold a few to people over the years, but I can't remember who to! Did I sell you any sheep? Do you have any of their descendants left? If so I'd love to buy some and have some members of my old line back. Thank-ewe! (Reposted cos I posted in the wrong place before!)
  7. What the title says! It would be good to have small carts pulled by one donkey or one sheep (or perhaps rams only?), and be lead by the player. The advantage would be less slowdown than pulling the cart onesself. Also it would be frigging adorable! Otherwise the small cart would remain unchanged, same weight, same capacity.

  9. The day before yesterday when I logged in, I noticed that a couple of my horses no longer had brands. I brand all animals bred by me as a matter of course, so this was odd. They were venerable animals I'd branded months ago. Later I discovered that some foals had also lost their brands, and two lambs that I had branded and named had their names and in one case their brands disappear too. I've never had this happen before so I'm stumped! On the advice of the help channel in game I'm posting here. I haven't resized or dropped my deed or made any other changes. What's up?

  13. So currently there is no reason to breed sheep and cows, unless you are in a corner of some remote area where these animals never spawn. My idea is this, since the current animal traits add nothing other than maybe extra life to cows or sheep, there should be a new category for these animals. Traits specific to the farm type animal, which currently would be pigs, sheep and cows. New traits can lead up to a better animal that could produce better ql and quantity of milk and wool and if butchered better meat and other assorted parts. (these are just a few things that come to mind, but I am sure there could be enough various traits that could make it worthwhile to breed 5 or more traits into the farm animals) If a breeder has high enough skill enough of these traits would be present that you would have a chance at winning the blue ribbon at the fair and a new market for selling farm animals with better traits. Another trait I was thinking about would lead to animals breeding more true to the parents traits, this would work for horses as well.

  17. I'm breeding black sheep and was disappointed to see that when shearing them, the wool they produce is white, not black. This doesn't make much sense, and black wool would be awesome. Could we change this, please?

  20. Unsure if black sheep already give black-dyed wool; however, if not, then this would be a nice aesthetic. RGB of the resulting sheared wool could be based off of the quality.
  21. Hey, I notice that when i bury the corpse of a butchered sheep (with the meat and body parts still in it) the contents disappear, while this doesnt happen with some other animals (crocs, cows). these items appear normally.

  23. Two bugs with sheep! 1. I shear my sheep once a day, and as of recently have been unable to shear them anymore. I have 45 sheep so it's not just a couple that aren't cooperating - and it's both the male and females. It says "The creature is already sheared" I have definitely sheared them at least once since the rams & lambs update (definitely know this 'cause I was almost hoping for black wool to come off one of my rams!) Can't be 100% sure but I think I only sheared them one time since that update, and then it no longer works. And yes, they are all fed, healthy and happy. 2. I have a couple of male sheep with no horns (Aged +)
  24. Hey Everyone! After a few weeks' break, we're now back with regular news posts. It's still a bit of a quiet week this week, but we have some news to share to get everything going again. The devs have also spent some time this week at Gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany. The devs have been every year now for a while, and it's a great way to kick off a new season of development - as well as some industry networking and meeting up with a few other members of the dev team who don't work in the Motala office. The plan for the next few weeks of development is to continue with bugfixes and small changes. As we've mentioned before, we'll start to look into the next "big feature" for Wurm in the fall. Expect to hear more on that in the coming weeks/months! The Month in Patch Notes In keeping with recent tradition, here's a roundup of all the recent patch notes posted to the client during the dev summer break. This is everything since News #69, so it's a pretty big list! Most notably is that upcoming game features will require an update to Java 8. If you don't already have it (it's been around for a while now) then you're crazy! But you can download it here anyway (of which we strongly recommend downloading and using 64-bit Java if you have a 64-bit system, since it will make Wurm use your computer's resources better than 32-bit.) 25/6/15It should now be possible to lead creatures and drive/ride from bridges high up into houses.Fix for teleporting when moving out from floors onto steep tiles.Added in ability to see who planted an item (using examine).Fix so items and creatures that were on bridge when it was destroyed, loose their link to the bridge.Made wall collisions wider, to remove the see through feature.If there is only one possible item to craft, it is auto-selected in crafting window by default (like sand+clay).Non-premiums gives less to no skill in pvp due to some exploitability.Chaos server: In order to deal with alt problems, non-premiums can only respawn in permanent cities and pmk capitals until a better solution can be coded.You can now drop dirt under bridges (with restrictions). 26/6/15Added possibility to repair tools directly in crafting window.Tripled the ondeed creature ratio on pvp servers.Foals now age a lot faster on pvp servers.Reduced the breed wait timers on pvp servers.The Rod of Eruption has been replaced with a Tome of Incineration since use of the rod was considered undesirable.Fixed some issues with loading things onto boats.Fixed an issue with grass height and flower data. 30/6/15Fix for being kicked as passengerFix for creatures escaping pensFix for pmk non-prem spawning on Chaos 15/7/15We are adding features in the game client which requires Java 8 within the overseeable future, so please get the latest version of Java at as soon as possible:)A bug with mine doors was fixed 21/7/15Updated title for 90 NS as the old one was not very good.Added rarity to the items text (and hover text) in mail receive screen.Tower guards should now be more responsive when spawning.Corrected some size values for seals that resulted in a larger yield of hides then intended. Also made slate shingles slightly less dense.Tower guards should be more responsive to enemies during conquering. 3/8/15Crude Axe Head added.Crude Shaft added.Larger boats should now be easier to load from a few tiles away (cog, knarr, corbita, caravel).A range check bug resulting in too short distance allowed when unloading crates from ships was fixed.(Bulk storage) “As many as I can carry†should now leave behind partial items that can’t be combined once taken out.(Fighting) Special moves should no longer show the activated item.Fix so gates are correctly unlocked when a deed disbands.Change so attaching a lock to an item only checks if you have a key if you are on a PvE server. Permissions Improvements Tich is still hard at work on her huge improvements to the game's permissions systems. She is already working on new code, but is also looking for feedback on proposed changes to both gates and mine doors - we'd love to hear your feedback in both threads! Inevitably there will be more threads to come too - we'll post them in the weekly news as and when they appear. Rams, Lambs & Black Sheep This week, Saroman has been living up to Valdor's dev team fanfiction by working on new models to add some variety to sheep to celebrate Gamescom 2015. Disclaimer: that's probably not the actual reason why he made them, but we'll happily condone belief in it anyway. Coming to a field near you soon!
