  3. It has been evident that players get confused when analysing shards and a description of east of south or north of west etc. is given in the analysis results. I have created a chart that explains where these odd ball descriptions will fall; colour coded out to 4 tiles away. This in conjunction with the current diagram showing the analysis range around the target tile should assist players, especially the less experienced ones.   6. This is not a new request. It has been requested so many times that I think that these requests should be brought together in a thread to show the depth of feeling on the subject. Please let us add concrete to a mine ceiling to lower the ceiling. If we can mine a ceiling higher without changing the floor (using pickaxe), then is should be possible to do the opposite - lower the ceiling without changing the floor (using concrete). A minimum height could be agreed (say 33 dirt) and a check would need to be made for mine entrances, bridges and multi-storey underground buildings which could be affected. Just this evening another newer player asked in CA Help if the mine ceiling could be lowered using concrete - intuitively it should be possible, and useful, and that's why folk keep asking. If it is not possible by reasons of deliberate design, then the reasons for this should perhaps be made clearer. Thank you!

  9. So i know the prospecting function tells you what is within a specific amount of squares but what about beyond that? For example i started a mine where my prospect said there was iron nearby. So if i mine beyond what the prospecting function could reach is it possible to find different ores? Or is Iron the only thing i am likely to find there? Also out of curiosity what kind of dangers are involved? I have heard of cave ins and flooding but do i need to worry about breaking into a cave occupied by creatures or anything similar?

  16. This suggestion starts with a disclaimer: I made this suggestion today in Freedom chat as a light hearted joke, but it has generated some interest and someone asked me if it was true. I just want to say none of this is currently implemented in game. Ore Sniffing Horses The basic idea is that horses with keen senses should be able to 'sniff' ores and veins when in a mine or on the surface. Different horse colours are able to 'sniff' different veins: Gold horses can sniff out gold veins Grey horses can sniff out flint Brown horses can sniff out iron Black horses can sniff out lead White horses - zinc Chestnuts - copper Black Silver - silver veins Ebony Blacks - slate Gold Buckskins - sandstone Piebalds - marble Skewbalds - rocksalt and so on.. When standing next to (or on a matching ore tile), the following message would appear: [09:06:41] The aged fat SilverHunting neighs loudly. If the Ore is 2 tiles away: [09:06:41] The old fat IronMan whinnies softly. If the Ore is 3 tiles away: [09:06:41] The adolescent fat FastGold sniffs inquisitively. This idea might also serve to regenerate horse sales - including finding a use for the older, or less popular colours I hope this has brought you all some amusement, I just want to clear up any confusion and reiterate: This is not implemented in game currently! xD
  17. This ancient, beautiful relic has been lying in ruins under Pristine for what seems like an eternity, long before I arrived on Pristine. A couple of years ago myself and Blarster started fixing this canal up after finding it in ruins, but real-life got in the way and the project died off again. I also should have made this post long, long ago. The original tunnelers clearly put a lot of work into it, so It seems a shame to let such a useful canal be forgotten and lost to decay. Current Status: Open - Not fully reinforced. Knarrs, sailing and rowing boats only. Roughly two-thirds of canal walls are reinforced Lots of veins to be mined out of the way (see below) Canal ceiling needs raising Canal floor needs lowering for larger boats Walkway started from south side. Incomplete One or two surface access tunnels to be fitted along the canal, connecting to its walkway Midway between Oasis Motel and Pierpoint is messy old collapses and reinforcements which need fixing Northern entrance is now nice and shiny Map (Enlarged version here) Obstructing Veins All veins are listed from north to south. Anyone is welcome to come and chip away at them and you can do whatever you like with the ores you've mined. The only exception is deeded veins, unless the deed owner has given permission to mine/take them, for obvious reasons. Note: I've been gone a few weeks, so the the list below is outdated.   18. Now that we have underground bridges, I suggest we remove some of the safeties currently in place when mining. For example: [08:46:37] The cave walls sound hollow. A dangerous side shaft could emerge. I'm aware of the danger. Glad to get the warning, but would like to bust through nonetheless knowing I have various options to address the outcome. I suggest we keep the warnings in place, but ultimately allow players to carry on if they so wish.
  19. I would like to propose the idea of making large and extra large mine doors. Reg Size doors - No change Large doors - only placeable on slope of 91-180, requires 2x materials of Reg Doors. Extra Large Doors - Only placeable on a slope of 181-270, requires 3x materials of Reg Doors. Simple enough, I think.
  20. Hi I've slowly started on the cave canal /road from Lake Harmonie to inner sea. I have had some input from people and have chosen the least completely impossible route there :-). So far just exposing some surface rock making some concrete and such at LH end. Plan not completely done but if anyone is interested in killing a vein or two let me know. DL (the rodent from hell)

  23. Hello Wurmians, I created this spreadsheet for personal use a while back and recently shared it with my Alliance and the CA Help chat. It is based on the formula available on wurmpedia and regularly referenced in the CA Help chat. I believe it is self explanatory but you basically fill in the blue fields to work out either the optimal ore type to mine with your skill and pickaxe QL or alternatively use the other calculator to work out the best QL of pickaxe if you want to mine a specific ore! I figured it worthwhile linking here for the wider community, any feedback would be appreciated! But feel free to download a personal copy if you want to tweak it to your own taste, otherwise just fill in the blue fields to make use. Note: The "guide" part of the spreadsheet is somewhat opinion based and there are likely many other alternatives! ^-^ A Note on Vein Quality/Prospecting: Skill can only be gained when mining ores under 39 QL, however ores mined at the "cap" for their Quality (such as mining a 35QL ore from a 35QL vein) could have rolled higher than 39QL (such as 60QL mining action) and so would not provide skill gain - but would be capped by the quality of the vein and therefore result in a 35QL shard/ore. In addition to this, you won't get skill for any ores mined at 1.00 QL either as that is considered a "fail" action. The equations provided in the spreadsheet therefore focus on maximizing the amount of shards/ores mined between 1.01 and 38.99 QL, whilst also preferring longer actions for more chance at a skill tick. Note that is is still recommended that one should always mine ores which prospect as "Poor" or "Acceptable" as this leaves the higher quality veins for you to mine with a better QL pickaxe when you want to mine higher QL shards/ores to use. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1p_1hjgJcxYYicJlHbVVN2UU10DsVd6SvFlUudXCbYnw/edit PS.   24. Erupting a rock tile can raise a corner of that tile a bit, which is intentional. However, if that eruption causes one corner of a mine entrance slope to rise, this causes the entrance to NOT be level as it normally is, and the tile inside the mine does not adjust itself to compensate. This leads to a discontinuity in the terrain across the transition between inside and outside. Outside: Inside: Note that inside the cave, the entry is still level, but outside the cave, the entry is 4 dirts higher on the corner affected by lava. As a result, I need to turn climb on to get out of the cave, and can see through bits of the terrain since it doesn't match up. Not sure what ideal behavior would be here. Maybe it should do a sanity check to not raise the corner if it's at a cave entrance, since those are never supposed to be non-level? By fixing this bug, Rolf "Lonestar" Persson and KodeKlubFree International Ltd. hereby agree to remove the Magranon domain restriction on the Erupt/Freeze Path of Power meditation ability, as it serves no purpose but to make me openly weep into my full-size anime body pillow at night, and curse the stars every time I want to get rid of a problematic ore vein or off-deed reinforcement.
