  1. I'M HAVING A BLAST SO FAR! Feels like if I have found "my Ultimate Game". So much that i want to dedicate a partition to it so as to have the best performance as possible. So i'm looking for the best OS for it! So fai i'm considering Linux over Windows. (Specs: I7 4700MQ, nVidia 740M, HDD 5400RPM) OBJECTIVES: Wurm Online-Centered OS. Maximum OpenGL performance. As Lightweight as possible, with few tools like a light browser (Chromium? Midori?), minimalistic DE. TARGETS: Currently Lubuntu.Had some previous experience with it and liked it personally. I'm looking for "gamer OS" but i'm not sure how many "gaming ornaments" a gaming OS can have. My linux knowledge is not horrible but certainly basic. I fare quite well with PC's in general and have (low-level) programming experience, so i have a glimpse of things. It's just that I don't know the more Linux-esque things. EDIT1: forgot to mention the most important thing.. JAVA support/performance EDIT2: Found out about Drauger OS: even has a particular low-latency kernel that gives less priorities to more mundane tasks. I'm interested in that one!   2. All the colours on my bardings look completely wrong. They used to be black/red and black/blue, now they show up an ugly gray. There is no option to turn off HDR. I turned off AO to see if it was that but it's not. Users report improve FPS with AO turned off by the way. Please post your issues in this thread post-patch everyone.
  3. Hi there. I have 440+ hours in game, had no performance issue, 90+ fps, all fine (had minor visual glitch but nothing serious). Suddenly, yesterday, I closed a game, got back to it less than an hour later and it displays 1 frame every 30 seconds or so, sometimes freezes for several minutes, can't do anything about it. Cursor is responsive, I can use my system okay, but the game just renders frames extremely slow! I tried to remove player settings, reinstall the game, reinstall Steam, rolled back nvidia driver (it updated earlier that day but all worked fine for hours after reboot). Other games still run 60+ fps no issues (Shadow of Mordor, Dying Light, etc.). I'm clueless on what else I can try. The only "success" I had so far was switching to open source Nouveau driver, it let me run the game at about 5fps... Returning back to Nvidia driver 390.42 (current) didn't help. I'm on Manjaro.i3, up to date, using Steam runtime and java that comes with game - didn't change anything here. The only change I made was trying to set a number of model loading threads to 8 (even though my CPU has 4 cores) but I reversed that setting and it didn't help. My system is more than capable of running the game with high fps (as I said, it used to work). I'm pasting my rig, terminal output when running a game and console.log content below - any suggestions are appreciated. How do I debug this? Cheers.   4. I'm having FPS issues when running more than 1 character, and even sometimes running only 1.
  5. I've tried using the unstable client with mixed success. I am in an area that experiences severe intermittent lag. Some have reported that using the unstable client has fixed those issues, but not for me! I've found that what would normally be a drop to 0 fps for a few moments is now a full crash. Wurm freezes, and the only way I can exit is by doing ctrl-alt-del. Unfortunately, this takes some time as my desktop also freezes and the task manager crashes! After approximately 5 minutes things are back to normal and I can restart the game.
  6. The game runs unplayably slow at night time, which I think is due to the bloom glow because the FPS almost always lags or freezes completely whenever I look at a lamp. The only way i can move around during this is by looking straight at the ground, and even then, it often freezes. The game occasionally runs well enough to play during the day, but this only lasts for so long, usually until the sun sets and the lamps turn on. Countless times i have died and lost everything in this way; one frame i am standing in a perceivably safe place, in the next i am being attacked, and in the next, I am dead. i have tried to turn off the bloom glow, but even though the setting is unchecked, the game continues to render blooms regardless. I have also heard that turning off the GLSL shading, might fix the problem. And so I searched the settings menu thoroughly, (logged out), but I found no such setting. I worry that maybe i have an incorrect version of the client, and so I tried deleting the game completely from my machine, (which is a Mac OSX Mavericks, maybe a bit on the low end), and re-installing it. But nothing changed, not even the fact that it no longer plays start up music like it used to. (by the way, is that normal?). I appreciate any help.

    Hey, The Wild Dog here I have been having problems with my Wurm Unlimited where the game seems to stutter even though there are no fps drops. I have tried everything that I searched on Google and remember not having this problem before I reinstalled windows and Wurm Unlimited. I believe I was able to fix this problem before this reinstall but forgot how I did it. I have checked task manager to see if there are memory problems or cpu problems and they seem to be fine. I have an FX-8350, GTX 960 2GB, 8GB of DDR3 and a 1TB drive.
  8. Hello everyone. I'm Fexzz and I'm having some crazy perfomance problems that I can't seem to resolve on my own. Me and a buddy already tried a bunch of tricks and workarounds, but nothing really fixed the issue. First off, my system specs: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Java 8 64bit Intel Core i7 2600k (Stock Clockrate, average temperature) AMD Radeon R9 390 Strix (no overheating) 8GB DDR 1333MHz Game is installed on a 128GB SSD Crucial M4 Now, the problem is, that with the stock wurm settings, my game is only running at 30-40 FPS with terrible stuttering while looking around, which gives me a crazy headache and is way, way too low for my computer. Now, the first thing I noticed is that when the game is running, my GPU clockrate is not maxed. Instead of the GPU Core clockrate being at 1050 MHz (it's max), its hanging around ~500MHz. This was one of the first things I tried to resolve with a Tool called ClockUnblocker, that forces the GPU to it's maximum Clockrate, but it didn't help. The first improvement I got was by Disabling GLSL and VBO in the compability settings. This makes my game way smoother, but my FPS is still only at about 50-55. Another thing is that shadows completely ruin my FPS, I had to turn them off completely, otherwise it my FPS is hovering between 18-25. Anti Aliasing is also turned off, AF is only on 2. Most other settings are stock. I'm really at the end of my knowledge here, I can't explain what's causing this, maybe anyone had similar issues before and was able to resolve them, any help is appreciated.   9. Well, I'm completley new to Wurm and was hoping to be able to jump in and try learn the game a bit so I have no previous knowledge of the game at all. I'm running on a pretty low end laptop but I should see no problem trying to run a game like Wurm. I have turned all the options down completley and abseloutley nothing changes. I have looked through threads and tried everything I can think of but nothing seems to fix the issue. I'm getting around 2 FPS literally ingame no matter what options everything just stays freezing.
  10. Just wondering if anyone has tried using AMD's freesync tech with Wurm? Or maybe Nvidia's G-sync? AMD card keeps disabling Freesync when I launch Wurm saying it needs to be between 35-90fps... but it is. I've turned on the frame limiter in Wurm settings, set it to 75 to be safe. FPS counter in-game shows right around the limit I set. Anyone else have experience with the limiter? Are the numbers it's putting out accurate? I also enabled / disabled v-sync. Ensured nothing outside the game was overriding game settings. No joy. Kind of weird but it disables just as I'm joining a server before any graphics are even drawn, except for the Wurm Unlimited splash screen with those snazzy looking folks on it. Would that count as a reported FPS? Wonder if the Wurm frame limiter is somehow interfering or overriding the freesync. I can max out and use vsync when I'm not doing a whole lot in game, but when the screen gets really busy and frames drop, freesync should be really useful. Would love some help brainstorming this, or cookies I have milk.
  11. Hello everyone, I have updated this thread to be more accurate and meaningful based on previous edits and replies and more of my own research and testing. First, I recommend you uninstall your previous version of Java 8 and replace it with the latest version. At the time of writing, it was JRE 1.8.0_60 also known as Java 8 Runtime Environment. There are also some websites out there claiming that the server version of Java 8 provides an increase in performance for certain types of mathematical calculations. However, the server version of Java 8 does not include 'javaws.exe' that is needed to run Wurm Online. I have no idea if overwriting the JRE 1.8.0_60 directory contents with JDK 1.8.0_60 results in any performance improvement or not. However, I did it just for kicks and it didn't prevent me from running the game. For most users, I just recommend getting the new JRE. Second, I want to share my updated Wurm game settings also known as the gamesettings.txt file you find in your game directory. On my PC, it's located at D:\Program Files\Wurm Online\configs\default\gamesettings.txt but your configuration file may be in a different location (e.g., on the C drive instead). What you do is backup your current gamesettings.txt using a different filename and then copy my settings into your gamesettings.txt. If something goes wrong just revert back to your old gamesettings.txt or further tweak the settings using the Wurm Client for your machine. The configuration I posted below has lower settings for use with multiple clients as most people have alts. If you're just running a single client you can increase your settings as long as you can maintain a decent amount of FPS in-game. If you have created separate configuration profiles, your gamesettings.txt will appear under D:\Program Files\Wurm Online\configs\ConfigName where the ConfigName is the name of the configuration you used for a particular in-game character.   13. Hey all, I have been fighting with the game for awhile now trying to make it playable as it generally will completely freeze when it decides it needs to load something. The FPS will hit 0 and then jump back up for a time being until the game is forced to load something again. This happens with all settings on the lowest possible setting, including taking all animations off as well. Solution you can try: My computer is horrible, dual core with a GTX 460 with 8Gigs of ram, so I do not expect a lot out of it. However I was able to get a nice fluid game play with even decent graphics and distance rendering settings by going in to my Nvidia settings and checking out the 3D settings. For some reason my settings were set to have the CPU handle all 3D rendering thus bogging down the system. I changed this setting to have the GTX 460 handle all 3D rendering and it has been amazing!   14. So over the last few weeks, I've been noticing my usual 40-60 fps often dropping to 12-15 fps. I've tried meddling with graphics settings to see if it can be improved, and I've tried prodding at my pc with all sorts of programs, to resolve the issue, but nothing has worked. I have, however, started identifying certain conditions that causes this. I first caught onto it during Wurm daytime, when the fps spike seemed to leave completely. I was just starting to grin, when night came, and it all triggered off the poor fps again. So now I've been experimenting, and it feels to me like it's the flame animations on forges/ovens/lamps that is causing the issue. When they're snuffed out, things seem smoother. When I have my forge, oven and my 15+ lamps on at night, the fps can drop very, very badly. I haven't tested this theory in detail yet, but I'd really appreciate some support/feedback with this. I know several people who are having bad fps issues in their deeds too, and a fix would be really appreciated.
  15. Since today's patch (which apparently brought the light beacons emanating from starter towns) we are experiencing severe framerate drops. (Checked with several friends on my server.) Where I used to get about 30 fps, I now have less than 15 (independent from view direction). Even inside a cave my framerate randomly drops to about 20 (I used to have up to 60). Comparing this with my friend's values the average framerate seems to have decreased by about 50%. Is this related to the new light beacons? Please fix!
  16. I'm having some severe issues with FPS after upgrading my card. I had assumed the issues previous with ATI were fixed in Wurm since the last time I used one. I used to run with a Nvidia 560 Ti 1GB card, but now I've upgraded to an AMD R9 290 4GB card, and Wurm has been having a heap ton of issues. I've tried the recommended fixes, such as turning off GLSL. It seems to have helped slightly, but not by much. Unfortunately, turning it off breaks my water, as well as the new dye system.   17. I absolutely love this game. My biggest problem at the moment is lag. I have done everything I need to do to my computer and graphics settings, but ever since the big move of servers, my FPS went from around 20 (average) to 6 (average). Now, 20 is nothing to brag about considering I have a souped up gaming computer and high speed internet, but it was quite playable with no problems in the least. I was a happy little wurmian. But now, at 6 FPS, I am a disgusted little wurmian. I can no longer go off far from my place because my FPS goes down to 2 (which is death, because you can no longer maneuver around) and I sometimes get disconnected. (which can also be death) So now, since I am confined to my place, doing nothing but my daily chores, due to the constant lag, I have decided to leave you great people. I will miss my friends and miss Wurm tremendously, but my premium time runs out on the 10th, and I've decided not to renew it any longer until there are improved changes.   19. I am experiencing a drastic drop in fps after today's patch. Before the patch my client used to run at about 50 - 60 fps (in normal, average environments). Now I'm playing at 16 - 20 fps, without having changed anything in the settings. So, there seems to be an fps decrease by a factor of 2.5 - 3.0 ! I've been around a long time trying to find a happy medium graphics settings of the game for my configuration. but every time I come to the end result seems to me that my computer is capable of more. I'm interested in the question, what is the problem of low fps? The main reason for the fall of the FPS in my case is to increase the settings of shadows and reflections in water.   22. My computer: two-year-old Macbook Pro CPU: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 RAM: 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB Not a bad machine; it runs all other games with decent settings. Before the 1.1 update, my computer ran Wurm Online fairly well, with moderate graphics settings and something like 20-30 fps. Since the 1.1 update, which was supposedly going to increase performance, my FPS has dropped to about 4. I have lowered all graphics/advanced graphics settings to their minimum, and even disabled VBO support and pbuffer, but this only gave me another 1-2 FPS, which is still unplayable, even putting aside that the world looks beyond hideous. I have already seen the thread about "optimal settings" on an older machine, and even tried the settings recommended there, but that didn't help either, so please don't spam me with links to it. It will NOT help me, thank you. As everyone else I spoke to in-game has had increased performance since the update, and since they were using Windows, I surmise that this is a compatibility glitch with Apple's Java release.
  23. My machine has: Intel Core i3 M 380 @ 2.53GHz × 4, NVidia GeForce 315M, 3,7 GiB RAM. The system i Ubuntu Pangolin and uses normally 10% CPU and 1,1 GiB RAM. Wurm is using moderate settings and running at +/- 30 fps using 150-200% CPU, 800 MiB RAM. and less than 1KiB/s Network. Normally, that is. but then Wurm repeatedly (with distances of 5-30s) does something and I get a Network burst of anywhere up to 120 KiB followed by a CPU Burst of 400% and Wurm completely stops drawing any frames. for a full second or more. I basically go from 30 fps to 0 fps and back to 30 fps. Now comes the important part: Wurm does the same even when I turn the World Render Off. There is litterally nothing to draw besides the gui, but Wurm can't do it. This is practically shouting classic Multithreading lockup. Rendering is a read only process. there is nothing that needs to be thread save. And it would be nice if that sudden load could be spread more evenly, it's also lugging down the entire System.
  24. Since the update "Fixes: Embarking, floor qualitylevels, multilevel fences blocking" when I play the game it freezes or drops FPS to 0 after an event or random amount of time. If I look completely up or completely down and cease moving for a minute it returns to 30+ FPS but if I try to move it freezes up. It seems if I tap the movement key I'm able to get around in a de-rate mode but that's not playable. The last occurrence seemed to happen when my fellow villagers joined. But it's occurred while alone or travelling. Judging from the console It's an issue of animations that weren't coded into the game or animations that can no longer be referenced.
