Grinding a priest(ess)'s faith is indeed mundane and tedious. With the Valrei teaser posted yesterday showing us some information about new holy sites, I have a suggestion that can make it a little more interesting to begin following one of the gods or becoming a priest of that religion. This is not intended to replace the existing conversion options. Occasionally, an avatar of a god will appear on servers for various missions or possibly at these new holy sites. I'm proposing some new interactions with these avatars. Pledge Fealty This allows a player to pledge fealty to the chosen god to become a follower. They are converted and begin at 10 faith because they made the pilgrimage to seek out the representation of their chosen god in our world. To pledge fealty, the player must seek out the Avatar of their chosen god, activate the appropriate statuette, and right-click > Pledge Fealty. If the player is already the follower of a different god with more than 10 faith, there is a small chance that the avatar will attack them instead due to their fickle loyalties. Declare Devotion This allows a follower to interact with the avatar to be granted the honor of becoming a priest of that god. Due to their resolute beliefs and faithful pilgrimage, they are awarded with a 1 week affinity to both faith and channeling. To declare devotion, the player must seek out the Avatar of their chosen god within an area of influence for this god (This might mean they must show their determination by constructing an altar nearby) then right-click the avatar with a statuette activated > Declare Devotion. If the player is the follower of a different god with 30 faith, the avatar will become enraged by their infidelity and attack the player. *Because both of these mechanics would put the presence of the avatar at risk for the sake of completing the mission, should the avatar be killed, a replacement will be sent to a new location on the server where a player has prayed to that god within the last 24 hours, and the mission would be reset and updated appropriately. The new avatar may not be needed for the new mission, but will grant a small boost to prayer for followers and priests within a set tile radius (larger or smaller based on the prayer skill of the player that had done the prayer). Renew Faith This allows a follower with 20 or more faith or a priest to interact with the avatar during the mission for a temporary (24+ hours) affinity based on that god's domain. This might look like: Vynora Toymaking, Magranon Prospecting, Fo Gardening, and Libila Butchering. This option does not appear for players that do not follow the god represented. To do this, the follower must choose a rare or better item to gift/sacrifice to the god, activate the item, and right-click the avatar and choose to "Renew Faith". Rare gives 24 hours, Supreme for 48 hours, and Fantastic for 72 hours.
  3. tl;dr pls I remember first venturing out and becoming a follower and priest my first time. It was a special journey. A milestone. I met people along the way and was warned of the possibilities that I'd be sought after by those who'd wish me harm. There aren't many other games, if any, that I can relate this experience to. That being said, you could make that first journey as a new player, so long as you still had to visit the (un)holiest of (un)holies on Elevation to become a priest. I sure would love to be able to become a follower of a god, just by using a player-made altar on a home server.

I have a very limited budget so I'm only looking for a "basic" starter toon as follows: 30 faith to be converted by a priest (40 faith if already a paaweelr priest is a bonus). 23 body strength to load items into carts, wagons and boats. 21 body control to ride a horse. 20.10 mind logic to drive a large cart and sailboat. I'm also interested in a quote for the above but with 80 faith instead of 30 or 40. Finally, if you want to build me an account from scratch I can tell you the name I want to use.

  11. Hi, I had trouble last week with my toon Garlock, I only had 2 ticks for faith in a 24 hour period (once). Now I haven't been able to increase my meditation skill since I've been to chaos (about 3 days). I never had this problem with my main toon Kijani. [23:20:19] You drop a beautiful meditation rug.   12. Title says it all. Why? well seriously what is the point to have a cool down when the only thing you get is a 0.07 tick 9.6 preaching skill. The only purpose that i know for the preaching skill is that converts get a slight head start based on the preaching skill (1/4 iirc). Removing the cool down, *only* for those who have 100 faith would add a little bit more culture overall as players seek out those with the higher preaching skills to get converted. --- Just in case someone misreads or feels there should be no cool down please do not bother. The cool down (up to 100) is fine just as it is. A monkey can get a priest to 100... if you will just do one of the following: play with people, make friends ask them to meet at a spot every 4 hours, offer them some help in return, not like you priest is doing much useful anyway you. play with a community slightly reversed as you will be expected to help them and they you. prem 6 other accounts (yes i have 6 other accounts, but was not for this purpose though it helped) and if you do this offer to share and you will gain a couple others to preach to and boost even farther

  14. Assuming the number of player gods ever does become an issue... personally its not there yet, if it ever will be. I'm sure gamers will leave some gods pretty much forgotten, depending on the benefits. Anyways... there could be a hard-coded mechanic for this with soft dynamic limits. If a god's follower/priest collective faith count drops below a certain limit (with a grace period after godhood), then that god no longer can manifest themselves on Valrei and/or have an impact on the player world. Perhaps even varying levels of the god being energetic and able to manifest. Players may need to perform certain rituals to re-awaken them: orgies and certain sacrifices included. Yup, stealing liberally from ye 'old fantasy literature. EDIT: Might even forget the grace period, and require followers to let the new god get up and mobile.

  16. Hey everybody, As announced, I am posting a list of spells available for a Tosiek priest at each faith level. I will update the list as I progress and unlock new spells. I was going to start it whenever I hit 40 faith, but because a lot of people have been bugging me to get it started, I shall post it here. I know that a Tosiek spell list exists on the wiki, but people have been wanting to know what spells unlock at what faith level.   17. I've been playing Wurm for quite some time, years even, but have never adopted a faith! Vynora is the perfect match for my character's vision. And so, if any priest expects to find themselves near Summerholt (or you happen to be in that area currently) I wonder if it would not be too much to ask to be converted. I'm uncertain how these things work insofar as payment is concerned, but I would be happy to negotiate a fair deal if this is desired. Location has to be in the Exodus world for now at some point i may consider expanding or moving for a period but for now i will just do for people in Exodus.   22. Currently, any alignment gains within 30 minutes from a sermon mean that you do not count as a listener, whether your alignment is already +/- 100 or not. This feels kinda counterproductive, since managing to gather a large enough herd of listeners is already a challenge on it's own. I say remove the invisible alignment gains if you already got it maxed out, instead of hoping that people has been afk for the last 30 minutes EDIT: the 30 minute cooldown for listeners should obviously stay in for balancing reasons, I just want to remove the penalty that comes with gaining alignment, even if you are already at 100.

  24. *Note that honestly I know this will never happen but that's why it's called wishful thinking!* Topics to be covered. Feudalism - (Government and territory control) Family - (bloodlines, perma-death-sort of- and dynasties) Skills - (Will be tied in with family dynasties) Faith - (Grants authority to Feudalism -By divine right- /helps with succession and bloodlines- My first topic is Feudalism, well eventually. Village breakdown - On a new server everyone would start out independent with no kingdoms or any real structure in place, however players would come together in "Tribes" to create a village, the village would have a good size amount of land for up to about 20 players to live comfortably and have an elected chief. Raids between village could occur which would press the need for defenses and diplomacy to develop more, leading the way to pact between tribes. The villagers will get the title "Tribe of - village name" Town breakdown - Once a village is fully populated the elected chief could opt to upgrade into a town, the town would have more room of course for say 50 players to live comfortably. -Note I'm rather loose with the numbers as honestly some areas are better suited for more or less- At that point the tribe becomes led by an elected mayor instead of chief. The title also changes from (The tribe of -village name) to (The people of -town name-). When a town reaches it's max population it can evolve into a city with of course more land and raised population cap. Towns could band together to form an alliance and evolve into a city state. - See City State breakdown - City breakdown - Other than being a larger version of a town, the city could also grant civil bonuses such as increased crop yields, for example. A town can alternatively evolve into a castle with many of the same functions, however with warfare bonuses instead of civil bonuses. (Also castles are ruled by Lords instead of Mayor) City State breakdown - Basically when you have 2 or more towns or cities/castles together in an alliance you create a city state where one is voted to become the "Capital" (Probably the highest population one). The first real form of government comes from this point because the mayors of each town can vote for a ruler of the City state. (However after the governor has been elected, his title is passed down by bloodline. The only way to break this is to end the bloodline and reopen elections. -See family section for bloodlines.- As far as government, after the city state level they become a Kingdom with kingdoms becoming Empires as they grow later. But note that Kingdoms, Governors and Lords- are passed by a bloodline. - More on this later in the family section.- (A side feature that could be left out but I think would be interesting is a tax system, from the village you could "levy" livestock or resources from the villagers - of course only from a selected source- don't want to steal stuff from people right out from under them, but perhaps instead have them offer the resources at the village center. Where as a town would levy -coins?- also.) To expand upon this system in a city state the Mayors would then pass on some of the "tax" collected to the Governor. Family! I'll try and tie this into the government in as few words as I can manage, but it's mainly important for the skills portion of my suggestion. This is a rather hard topic but I'd like to throw it out there and see if anyone can give good feedback about it but having a perma-death type system involving aging and birth. Basically a male character and a female character get married and have kids, when they die they play the kids. -Simple concept right?- Except you might toss a wrench in the gears by saying "What if they only have 1 kid?" or something to that effect. Well, if it's a boy, the male character plays it and if it's a girl then the female character plays it, upon death of course. The person who doesn't have a child will simply die and create a new character - perma-death style. -Before you scream and run away see SKILLS section- You might also ask what happens if you have more than 2 kids, well it's good to have backups haha- control like NPC similar to livestock I guess would be an ok starting point. By having kids and dieing and playing those children and repeating the process you create a bloodline that helps you maintain titles such as King, Lord, Governor ect... It also acts like livestock because children can gain traits from the parents. Life expectancy - I would say 70 years old is a really long life expectancy for this time period but that number is up for debate, everyone should age in wurm regardless of being online or not, this would encourage playing a bit more in my opinion, it also lets children age and at 16 they become "mature". Skills! First lets get to why perma-death wouldn't be world shattering, simply because the I would replace the skills system entirely. Which I know would utterly destroy those number counters who love to grind hours away doing the same thing to get a few skill points. But I have to ask what the point of that is, and show how unrealistic and not-life like it is. Instead I propose a simpler solution that I believe will still give players a sense of accomplishment while also making the game more active as a whole and less tiring. Instead of skills you have proficiency and traits! For example, I use to live on a farm, where manual labor is a common practice from chopping trees down to digging ditches with a shovel old fashion. I quickly learned the best ways to achieve the end goal in as little as 3 months I could efficiently cut down a tree, remove the limbs and chop it into firewood for the winter. So I got to thinking why not in wurm? Time goes by in wurm much quicker than in real life of course so it won't take you 3 months in real life to master a simple woodcutting skill. I believe resources should be more valuable in terms of supply and usage. I don't really like the super mass production a single player can push out, leaving mountains of logs about to rot. Breaking the proficiencies down into tiers would allow some to be more difficult than others, taking a year or more game time to master. Certain traits would allow you to succeed in proficiencies faster. Proficiency works similar to the current skill system as in being 100% proficient in tree felling would give you X% (probably 5 or so) in the all other tier 1 wood-related proficiencies. You could also spend time "teaching" children skills so that when you die and play as them you have some skills available. I have ran out of time for my Faith however I plan to stick with this thread and edit it with suggestions and teaks from feedback which is VERY WELCOME HERE! I know there are a lot of holes to fill in this idea but if you ask the questions I'll try to fill in the blanks! Thanks in advance for at least taking the time to read this!
