One year ago today, on 26 Dec 2016, I installed and logged-in to Wurm Online for the first time. I lasted maybe 30-45 minutes before I logged off and said "no thanks". But something made me log back in a little later, and it stuck. Over the past twelve months, I have enjoyed the company of new friends, both on my home server of Independence. and elsewhere. The WO community is strikingly friendly, helpful, resourceful, and skews much older and more mature than other MMORPGs I've played in my lifetime. I have encountered players who play 12 accounts simultaneously and power game to its fullest, and I have encountered folks who spend so much of their time just helping others to achieve their goals. I think this is a very giving community, and for the newbie who sticks it out, there are a lot of great things to be had in Wurm Online. Special thanks to all the people who answer questions all day. Whether they're staff or not, a lot of folks have spent time to help me along the way, patiently answering question after question, explaining concepts, and sometimes re-explaining concepts When I was starting out, people like Archaed and Hannaliese and Mitzie were so generous with their time with me, and I thank them. On August 5, 2007 these two soldiers were killed by a rocket attack in Baghdad, Iraq. Today is the 10 year anniversary of their deaths, and I wanted to share this with others to help keep their memories alive. The first one, Justin Blackwell was 27 and had a son that was born months before that deployment, as well as two daughters aged 2 and 8. He was a good friend of mine, and was considered the unit's 'class clown', always good for a laugh. The second soldier, Jeremy Bohannon turned 18 years old not long before the deployment. I personally didn't know him that well, he was new to our company before we headed to Iraq on 7/7/07. But tho he was the quiet type, he was also very friendly and helpful to anyone that needed it. All three of us were in 59th Military Police Company, 759th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, at Fort Carson, Colorado; I was their combat medic, taking care of them and all others in the company before and during the deployment. Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done in the case of a rocket attack. I know the pictures aren't the best quality, but I move them to every new computer I get so that I can remember them as they were instead of what I saw on their last day.

Another week has passed, meaning a weekend of Wurming, and better yet, the weekly news! Patch notes: Rifts. Well, take two of the rifts went much better, with them all being closed quite quickly. We’ve continued to listen to feedback and are currently looking at scaling the amount of creatures spawning according to local, meaning more people, more challenge! Fit for a king This week saw the updated graphics for crowns released! No longer will our kings be asked for “whoppers with cheese” and instead will just be asked “why aren't you wearing a jacket?” Rest assured, Saroman has been working on this and we will have them come as soon as they are finished. Birthdays! Wurm turns 10! This monday will mark the 10 year anniversary for Wurm Online going gold, and what a decade its been. Due to the timing of it being a monday, we’ve planned some events for the following weekend, to ensure that everyone can attend, we’ll have more on those in next weeks news! Events will be organised to occur on several servers, hopefully as many as we can fit in, and maybe even some crafting comps! Every premium account will receive an anniversary gift box, as well as the returning player packs for those with over 14 days playtime and purchase premium time! (Clarification: player must be non premium and over 14 days playtime at time of purchase) The returners pack consists of an extra anniversary gift box, a toolbox containing a random tin tool, and the special returners mask!
