  1. Hey all, a few months ago I made this IRC bot for my personal use to make a few WU server management things a bit easier on myself. I've just done some changes on it last night to remove passwords etc, and put it up on Github. You can check it out at https://github.com/BuddaT/KangaBot I'm not sure how useful it'll be to anyone as is, it doesn't come prepackaged, so you'll need to sort out the IRC libraries yourself, and it also needs a few classes from the WU code from server.jar and common.jar. You can either pull those classes out individually, or just add the server.jar and common.jar to the classpath when running it. It currently lets you shutdown the server, broadcast messages, add money to someone's bank, and remove money from someones bank. At the very least it might be a good example for someone trying to make use of the RMI commands.
  2. The financial state of Wurm Online has long been a topic of debate and discussion among players. We've discussed premium costs, free to play models, and cosmetic items. We've argued about multiple account functions, advertisement, and currency exchange. Some of these discussions have devolved into verbal warfare, but one thing typically holds true no matter the direction of the conversation: as a community most of us love Wurm and want it to thrive. Some suggestions and ideas about the future of Wurm have been thoughtful and motivating, while others have been erroneous and unrealistic. We all have different ideas with where Wurm should be heading, and the path it will take to get there. Amidst our differences; however, one simple fact remains true: as a community most of us love Wurm and want it to thrive. This isn't to say that it is failing by any means, as we don't have the financial data to support such a claim, but we do want the player count to grow. We have the required components for a well-rounded discussion: an extensive group of varied people and opinions, a passion for something bigger than our individual selves, and a common end-goal. I'm no expert, but this feels like an opportune time to put these components to good use. I'd like to plan a discussion about what money options we see--as players--for the future player growth of Wurm. I specify this as players because while we may be the life-blood of Wurm, we certainly aren't the creators. Respectfully, we have no right to tell the developers what to do with the game they've designed, as it is ultimately up to them where this journey takes us. That being said, I firmly believe we, as a whole, are well educated, well-versed, and experienced enough to create an atmosphere of positive creativity to discuss the continued evolution of something we all love. The discussion I mentioned would take place on IRC, and/or possibly TeamSpeak depending on the feedback garnered in this thread. The atmosphere of this discussion should be surrounded in maturity, friendliness, and most importantly, effective communication; which means listening to the ideas of others just as much as you'd want them to listen to yours. I won't proclaim to be a highly intellectual individual who casts shadows, as many of you are much more educated than myself. To that end I won't limit who can and cannot attend this discussion, as I am the superior to none of you. Everyone is invited. Those that attend are encouraged to offer their own ideas, listen to the suggestions of others, and respond with constructive criticism where they see fit. If you don't have ideas of your own to share then by all means show your support for ideas that you do believe in. I fully understand there will be drama, but I expect civility amidst any dramatic differences of opinions, and hope that we'll maintain a professional and friendly atmosphere to produce growth. However, if there are those that only attend with malicious intent then they will be removed from the discussion to be fair to others who are serious about the topics at hand. By the time we finish the discussion, and hopefully reach an encompassing consensus, we could very well have something of merit and structure. Try not to think too much about the outcome of the discussion, but instead think of the journey getting there. I haven't set a time and date for this discussion, as I'm awaiting feedback to this first before moving forward, but rest assured the plan is to move forward as soon as possible. I have no idea how long this discussion will last (whether it be a couple hours, or a couple weeks), but it will last however long it is desired to continue. Thank you for those who have taken the time to read this entire post, and I'm looking forward to hearing back from you. As a quick request I ask that you DO NOT start a debate here on this thread bringing up your suggestions or ideas for the possible topics of the discussion as that is not the purpose of this thread. Please limit your responses to support for or against having the discussion itself. This thread was designed as a heads-up and to receive a feedback count for what to expect when planning the IRC channel, and I do not want it to devolve into a forum war. With the proper feedback taken into consideration I'll later announce the time, date, and location (IRC/TeamSpeak) of the discussion. Below is a list of possible topics to have in the upcoming discussion. This list is not exhaustive. Please do not discuss these topics in this thread, as we will discuss them at length in the future at another location and add to the list as we go: Premium rates Payment model Upkeep rates Multi-character accounts (subscriptions) Player currency business (silver for money) Cosmetic shop Shop currency exchange rate (silver to euro) A few people have been confused as to the goal of this conversation, so I want to be clear: this is not a pitch to Rolf. This is data collection, research, and understanding of the monetary structure of the game compared to various suggestions that have been kicked around over the years. I do not have financial data for CC, so this will not be about whether they are thriving or not. This will exist to discuss in detail and educate ourselves on the possible benefits and deficits of suggested ideas such as F2P, cash shop, variant premium rates, etc. I hope this has cleared up any confusion.
  3. I am using znc irc bouncer on my computer. I want to use it so I can share my ingame irc username and xchat login name to rizon irc server. I am told that to connect you type in the ingame console "irc ipaddress port znc_username:znc_password". But my problem is that my znc is setup with ssl so it encrypts all password for the znc users but wurm only sends plaintext password to authenticate. Is there any way to either have one user on znc use plaintext password or let wurm send an encrypted password, for example like "irc -ssl ip port username:password"?

  5. The idea for regional chat channels (as opposed to global) has been discussed in the Xanadu Freedom chat for a few days, to separate clutter from a region on the opposite side of this huge map. A few of us decided to open the channels in the IRC client. The channels are: #sexanadu (Southeast) #swxanadu (Southwest) #nexanadu (Northeast) #nwxanadu (Northwest) To join these channels in-game, pull up your console (F1) and type "irc". When the new tab appears, enter "/join #channelname".
  7. Dear friends. As I now got to know a large number of German speaking players, today I have created and registered a chat room for exactly this Comunitie. I hope you use it extensively and be happy about this idea. You can activate the IRC InGame in the console in the top menu bar. Open console, type irc and close the console. This will open the official chatroom of Wurmonline named #wurm. In this chat room you write /join #Wurmgerman and you are immediately in our channel. We tested the room today and has much fun. Now, if you like it, we are searching for some Chatmoderators. You should have unaware of Mirc or similar programs, knowing about chanserv and nickserv also time to stay in our new chatroom for some times. If you like to be our chatmod so pls pm me or answer in this threat. Have a nice day Eject
  8. nvm, just wanted to make sure it was a known issue.
  9. Good Day Everyone, You may or may not of seen Wossoo's latest post on the Wurm Blog (also in forum and Twitter) about an upcoming test of a new IRC bot we have been developing. If you have not seen this yet you can read about it here. The test is going to be conducted on Thursday 23rd August 2012 between 8pm and 11pm GMT time in the IRC Channel #WurmTest. I am putting this post together for those who do not know how to currently use IRC. IRC is available within the Wurm Game or also out of game using various IRC Clients. IN-GAME IRC To use the in-game IRC please follow the below instructions: Press your F1 key while in game or use the Console option to open the Wurm Console In the Console screen type 'irc' without quotes and hit the return key on your keyboard. You will now see two new chat tabs open under your other Chat tabs titled 'Server' and '#Wurm' The Server tab is a required tab but you can ignore however closing this tab will end irc for you. #Wurm tab is the main Wurm IRC where alot of us geeks can often be found :-) You can now close the console window but the x or F1 again. To join the #WurmTest channel go into either the Server tab or #Wurm and type: /join #WurmTest Now hit enter, You should now see another new chat tab appear called #WurmTest You are now in the channel where the tests will be conducted. OUT OF GAME IRC IRC is actually hosted by Rizon and is available to anyone using almost any IRC Client. A couple of Popular IRC clients are mIRC and Mibbit which are both free. Rizon also have an online chat client For those of you using a installed IRC client if it is pre-populated with a list of servers there is a good chance Rizon will already be listed as its one of the big players. If not here are the details you need: Server: irc.rizon.net Port: 6667 (note if you have problems connecting you can also use ports 6660 to 6670 and 7000. Rizon also host SSL connection method on ports 6697 and 9000 but this is for slightly more advanced users) For all IRC Clients including the web ones you should be asked for a nickname and default channel. In the Default channel enter #WurmTest for this test session (or normally #Wurm for normal chat). In the nickname box enter the name you wish to have (note each name has to me unique if you choose a name already connected you will either automatically be assigned another or asked to change it. INFORMATION ABOUT BOT TEST As already announced by Wossoo's post there arew a few different features of this Bot and I won't relist them here however I would like to add that during the testing stages there is a command that allows you to report bugs. If you run into any difficulty during testing either ask one of our team who should be online during the test or use the following command: .dev /{your message here} Your message will then be sent to me for review. Note that this bot is not programmed by Wurm game devs and is completely seperate please do not bug Rolf/Wurm Devs/GMS etc about problems with this bot, please notify the PR Team.
  10. I am having trouble with IRC not logging me out I have like three names now in the channel we use. I have even logged out of the game for 20 minutes to see if it would log me out of IRC and still no luck. I have also noticed that it has been taking a longer time for my characters to log out of the game when i leave it takes about 5 min sometimes i don't think it took that long before. Anyone else seeing any of this or is it just me? Edit: I restarted my PC and it seems to be okay now not sure what the deal was.
