  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrowslit Not entirely sure what impact windows and doors (let alone low walls) have on archery exactly; however, even an arrow slit can be fired into from the outside. Better defense to peeps inside than the aforementioned walls and fences... blah blah. Offhand would say stone only; though, the other wall material types would probably be fine. EDIT: Oddly enough, dont see this come up often.
  2. Well since it has been told that fences on the bottom floor might take more time to implement i was wondering if we can get an arched wall type with a railing/fence built in at the bottom of the existing arched walls? We not only can put these to use as balconies on the upper floors but also make a nice effect for barns and pens on the bottom floors as well. If implemented having a gate/door version would be great too but i will settle for just the arched fence if that is all we can get.
  3. Why not a log wall, so we can make houses like this: No nails, just logs and dirt. probably 20 logs and 1-5 dirts per wall. Maybe needs a new item: notched log, made from a log and a hatchet, a log with a deep interlocking dent in each extreme. maybe a new roof type too, made from beams and dirt or we can use the already existent ones.
  4. currently on Chaos a dirt wall is considered essential for survival and personally i think it's a great improvised idea but quite frankly they're ugly and disregarding the principals of logic diggers should not be able to do this it would only be logical to give this ability to the masons so my idea was a colossus wall which also gives colossus bricks a practical use now i know the time it takes to build a dirt wall so it should cost quite some materials i was thinking of a thousand colossus bricks and that would finish the wall on 1 tile after that you can add more colossus bricks depending on your masonry skill how much bricks you can add making it higher and stronger the exact numbers need to be discussed by people who have experience in making dirt walls it has to be equal to a dirtwall thats the most important i think
  5. Either allow lead animals to clip through every single type of wall, or make them unable to clip through anything at all. Ever since branding was added to the game, you could at least lead your horse away if it got stuck on a corner on a random deed, but now there's a risk of having your horse stuck inside pens and enclosures without any way to free them. Bashing down the same wall just to free a horse getting stuck for the umphteenth time is not much fun either
  6. i got this bug/texture fail i dont know what to do about it, i dont think its my videocard becus i can play battlefield, Rust , minecraft , assassins creed and more with out problems normaly i play on win 8 have no bugs but im now on my win 7 on gf home and got this ?? what you wanna cal it can some one hellp?? ( i have update java/flash/directx )
  7. Hey, over the last months I talked with some of you about the decay rate of various fence types. Common sense seems to indicate that stone walls decay slower than wooden fences - and that's what most of us believe. HOWEVER - look at this interesting article in Wurmpedia: http://wurmpedia.com/index.php/Empirical_Evaluation_of_Fences The author made empirical decay tests and found that - surprisingly - all fence types have the same rate of decay, providing that they all have the same ql (within statistical limits, of course)! Isn't that interesting? If this is true it doesn't matter at all whether you build a low stone wall or a wooden fence - as far as decay is concerned! Well, seeing that these experiments were made almost 3 years ago, things may have changed since then! So, I decided to repeat those tests. I setup various fences, imped them to have the same ql, and observed the rate of decay on a daily basis. The experiment is running for 4 months now. I built 6 fences of 20ql: Woven Fence, Crude Wooden Fence, Wooden Fence, Low Stone Wall, Tall Stone Wall and Iron Fence. After 4 months the fences and walls show a damage of approximately 50%, as shown in this diagram: Up to now there doesn't seem to be much difference in decay rate (apart from statistical fluctuations), as indicated in the Wiki article I quoted. Woven and crude fences seem to decay a little bit faster (as could be expected), but so do the iron fences! Wooden fences and tall stone walls seem to show the least decay - but the differences are minimal. So far it seems that all fence types decay at roughly the same rate! I will continue the experiment to find out if more differences will appear at a later stage. See you in game Yaga (Yaragar)
  8. This sounds like a good idea particularly for PvP to create stronger buildings but it would also be good for PvE for making a beefier looking wooden wall. I also like the idea of iron rimmed windows, iron for floors and visible iron floor supports for upper floors to give a different look to ceilings. Then to top it off an iron enforced door maybe with a + look of iron bars and then on the borders of the door. I think this would make wooden buildings look nicer.
  9. Looking to maybe start a large community project, that is of course if the community wants to be part of the project. For no other reason than fascination and the desire to accomplish daunting tasks; I would like to create a very large wall made from dirt. The wall would be 600 dirts high, going up in increments of 200 dirt per tile for 3 tiles (200, 400, 600 with all slopes being at 200 value). The top of the wall could be 1 or 2 tiles wide depending on how much work is desired to be put into the wall (and if a highway road is destined to line the top of the wall). We could also add small castles or even villages along the wall at various points with pallisade gates to make way for passage between the slopes of the wall. Of course the project would take a lot of effort and would span many many months worth of work, but in the end it would be pretty amazing to see the community design such a true "colossus" of nature. If you have any ideas for names for the wall feel free to comment and give suggestions! If you'd like to help on this project comment here or message me in game: Slickshot. All help is voluntary. This isn't a paid project, only a massive feat to be conquered. Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken
  10. I don't know if this is a bug because i have never used inner walls before but i can not remove the planned inner walls today. I know that i was adding and removing them fine last night but now i can't. I even tried to bash them down with my maul with no luck. Edit: Well seems the reason i was having trouble is that i had a planned floor on the third level over that section of inner walls on the bottom level.
  11. Tall Stone Walls refuse to show properly while building them. I haven't had time to test any others. After planning them, they show: [12:07:46] You see an unfinished tall stone wall. It needs 1 stone bricks. You still need to add 19 more bricks before it's finished, but it's incorrectly displayed at the start and doesn't change until it's finished. 12. Hey guys, Yet another idea that can make Wurm look more medieval/dark ages. Torches attached to wall where very common up to reinassance so it would look very good on those castle-like deeds. Here is an image of what I have in mind Please let me know what you think, vote and share this thread so Devs can notice it. Tyvm.
  13. Hey all, I built a 4x4 building with a 2x2 open middle. I finalized the writ and started to designate the walls . First is surrounded the the outer ring with slab and the inner 4 tiles with slab as well. Naturally i began to add 1 brick and 1 mortar to just start all the walls. I was going around from inside the walls (like a long square tunnel ) starting all arches on all inner and outer walls. everything was working fine until i hit the 2 outer walls on the west side (the the 2 middle of the 4 outer walls on this one side). every wall but these to went normally ,However there two will not allow me to designate them to any type of building material or style. All I get is the "refreshing" indicator on the bottom of the building window when you right click an wall plan. I hope this is fixable. Thanks all Monctonclown (Deli)
  14. I'm ok with 20 bricks for a brick wall or 20 planks for a wood wall. And there's 10 bricks for a brick floor or 5 bricks for a brick floor with an opening. That's all ok, I'm cool with that. What makes no sense is 20 bricks for a wall with a door or window. Same with a wood wall with a window. Too much material. Shouldn't a brick wall with a door take maybe 10 bricks with the rest made up of planks for the door? And a brick wall with a window take maybe 15 bricks with a couple planks for the window frame? Maybe a wood wall with a door would be ok with 20 planks. But a wood wall with a window maybe 15 planks. If you are going to reduce the material needed for a floor with an opening be consistent and do the same with walls that have openings. And if you have a brick wall with a wood door or wood window frame include some wood in the material requirements. Just my opinion.
  15. Hi it would be great to manage who can go into a fenced area instead of shuffling with keys. It would help with personal areas and villaages both. Anyone agree?
  16. Walls appear to be missing but any attempt to walk through will teleport you back. Walls show up as wall plans with the quality of the wall that was there. None of the walls shown are arched. I get these messages upon examining different walls... [02:38:41] You see some markers for a new structure. [02:38:44] You see a wall. [02:38:44] QL=73.74084, dam=0.0 I also logged in a 2nd client to see if it was just me and saw this on the 2nd client also. Here is an image of what I'm seeing:
