  1. One of the things I love about Wurm is the way in which conjecture can rapidly become received wisdom. After hearing all sorts of things regarding specific horse colors being faster than others, only one course of action remained: Let's do science to it! Hypothesis: Unlike Wurm Unlimited, Ebony horses do not have a sixth speed trait in Wurm Online. Please proceed to the second post for the results of the second experiment, which are much more clear cut and reproducible. (Original experiment and hypothesis included inside the spoiler tag below - more useful is the second experiment that examines specific horse speeds. First experiment left in place for historical purposes.)

  3. Forgive me if I'm not in the correct section of the forum as I'm not sure what types of bugs these are exactly. There are three I keep experiencing: - Inside caves, a body of water will reflect the sky and trees above it from above ground as opposed to showing nothing or a cave ceiling. - When I enter a cave embarked on a large cart with two horses pulling it, one of the horses will often disappear, only to show back up after leaving the cave. - In my backpack, items with damage don't display the corresponding damage color like in the inventory. They just stay white like before the color update to damage numbers. Any help is appreciated. o/
  4. Not always sure whether to start a new thread, or resurrect an old one. Given the timing of past threads, I decided to start a new one relating to past ones. The topic came up recently in one of the Valrei International discussions. I got curious as to why it isn't possible to pick a sprout from horseback and wanted to know more about the history of requests. Two reasons seemed to come up as cause for a -1: Macro - Some seemed to say it would make it easier to macro. Others disagreed. I wouldn't call it conclusive and honestly don't think I would consider it a viable reason for a -1. A vast majority of players are not looking to macro and should not be punished for the occasional bad apple. Where's the line! - A more popular reason seems to be where we draw the line as to what can be done on horseback. The most common response, and a compelling one imho, is to point out all the things we can already do on horseback. The line wasn't drawn then, it shouldn't be drawn here. Things we can do from horseback currently, as far as I can tell, please add others you know of: Imping Arrows. Repairing Armor. Paving? Healing Self. Healing Others. Butchering. Burying. Lighting a forge. Plant Cat's Eyes. (Thanks Muse!) Saccing. (As per MrGary in Alyeska's thread.) Collecting snowballs (As per Cecci in Alyeska's thread.) Reinforcing. (As per JakeRivers in Alyeska's thread.) Past threads: 2010 :: only 2 responses, both -1. 2011 :: +10, -5 2012 :: +5, -1 2014 :: Yes 92, No 28. A poll made by Protunia who had been a -1 in both previous threads. Now a +1. Many of the -1's in the body of the thread are more about disdain for Protunia than the suggestion. 2015-->2017 :: +31, -4 An interesting idea was brought up by @Tavariellin the 2014 thread. The idea being linking the ability to do certain things on horseback to the related skill, or perhaps to body control. Based on all the above, I would propose we push this through to implementation before a 2019 thread. Thank you much.

  10. So I looked at the forum to find anything about saddlebags and indeed the community has quite a bit about wanting it. So, I will not go into detail about it other than... Saddlebags would be a great addition to wurm! Seriously. Now onto the Small Carts. "But wait Enigma... There are small carts." Yep, I think it would be a nice addition to the game to have the ability to hitch one horse to the cart. it makes sense to me considering that is what people do with horses. They hitch them to stuff they would rather not pull on their own.Of course you would still have to lead it. The other thing that would be a nice addition is the ability to load a single Large Crate or two Small Crates in the Small cart. I cannot count the number of times where I needed to carry just one or two crates somewhere or needed a crate in a location where horses are unable to go. Hitching up a large cart for one crate just seems... excessive to me. In these instances I am forced to spend a large amount of time pushing or pulling it to the location. Even if the ability to hitch is not going to fly, loading into a small cart would be awesome. Well theres my 2 cents worth of Saddlebags and Small Carts!
  11. This happening time per time, when i park regular horses or HH what are hitched to wagon or cart, after some time one of horse i can see above mine. I can attack it, i can lead it... Need to look someone in this problem. Thanks!
  12. Welcome to Hindleap Horses! Situated in a peaceful forest just west of Summerholt, I breed blood bay, piebald and jet horses. I'm aiming for 5 speed with 'certain spark' and 'strong and healthy'. This gives fast horses which are resistant to disease and live extra-long lives, approximately 9 months in total! I always have the old 4 colours available as well. Hindleap is in G23 as shown above. There is a main road from Summerholt and the turnoff onto the gravel path to Hindleap is signposted. There is access by water from the north and just to the south at Amish Paradise Market where a number of horses bred by myself and others are available. Amish Paradise Market information is available here. The market offers self service and a choice of 4 Hindleap horses, or you're always welcome to come to Hindleap for a personal shopping experience! Delivery to all coastal areas of Xanadu is available, and to other areas on request. Also available: black sheep bred to order blank 80ql horseshoes, 90ql available with a little notice 5 speed unicorns bred to order limited numbers of hell horses champion deer bred to order bison Prices: Old colour horses: 20c Piebald: 20c Blood Bay: 20c Ebony: 30c Skewbald: 50c Black Silver: 50c Appaloosa: 50c Gold Buckskin: 50c Hell Horses: 50c Bison: 50c Black Sheep: 50c Champion Deer: 50c Current stock list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NdKnN5N41a9aRzIwCGN3Q9-ZTV9WJu0c7fYBL3xn5YI/edit#gid=0 New colours are slowly becoming available! 13. I'm looking to buy a breeding pair of 5 speed horses on Exo. Colour isn't too important, as long as they aren't grey I'm located at N8, so somewhere not too far away would be cool so I can collect without a massive voyage! Please PM here or Samvimes ingame.
  14. I thought to ask to be able to hitch an animal to a tree with a rope, and that may be great, but would have an effect on how trees are used in the game. So how about a hitching post - it would be a post or rail that you could tie your animals to? Why this matters to me is that I have a new deed, I'm collecting animals from the area but I am not ready to fence them in - the land isn't ready. IRL, I'd just tie em up to something solid. In wurm, I have to deforest an area, and create a paddock.
  15. As a follower of Nathan I can't tame corrupt horses/animals. Which I find weird as Nathan is a negative influence god that requires negative alignment and you convert/priest to his religion at the bone alter. Unless I have completely missed some statement that only Lib followers can tame corrupt horses and it is as intended I don't see any reason why a dark aligned god wouldn't be able to tame corrupt animals.
  16. Hello, I was thinking about the value of horses and the dead market regarding horse breeding. I was questioning myself, what would make horsebreeding more interesting, what would value time and efford people put into it and I came to one solution: Make horses better with training! If you could train a horse to get more speed, you would give people a) something to work on, b ) something to hire people for, c) horses would become more interesting in comparison to hellhorses because they would be as fast as them without the unhitching/ biting burdens. So they could become more valued means better priced again. People that would put real efford into their horse business would stand out from those that just mass produce. Mass producing would infact make no sense anymore because you would need to much time to train all those horses up to selling status of 7th speed. My idea would mean you train a horse with riding it, (working cart horses should not become automaticly faster without any efford), maybe you would need the skill too, like 60 animal husbandry for 6th and 70 animal husbandry for 7th speed. d) This would give AH a new push because atm most people dont raise it much higher than 50 because this way they get all the speed traits they wanted without breeding useless other traits into the horses. e) You would give even training stables a chance to pop up, where someone could give their horse away for some time and get it back fully trained. f) And people would come out of their deeds more, because they need to train their horses. This way some forgotten landscapes would maybe become racing-grounds and more populated again. What do you think about this? Cheers
  17. I'm going to do be doing a series of tests in various things through-out wurm, and I'm welcoming anyone who wishes to, to follow along and perhaps even provide your own data. I ask that you maintain the same basis of which these tests are run however. For example if you wish to submit data for Horse speed Testing, you follow the pattern of completely unequipped horses, with near empty inventories of your player character. This ensures that all data collected is with the same control factors as other tests. Speed/Trait Testing - May also include trait testing of other common animals such as Cow/Bull Each provided link allows comments to be made to the document, where you may post your own findings, questions or suggestions to assist in finding out the information we're hoping to unmask and document, once and for all. Any off-topic, rude or otherwise unwelcome comments made to the documents will be removed entirely and disregarded. If too many off-subject or unwanted comments or alterations are made to these documents, comments will be closed indefinitely to the document themselves. If you'd like to see other testing done on other Wurm features, please let me know in this thread and I will look into begining more tests to run with what I have available to me.

  22. I responded to a post by sailingsuzye (below) about saddle bags, that I would like to see pack horses. It was suggested that I start a new thread, so that's what I'm doing. I have long thought that it was strange that in Wurm we do not have pack animals. To me the easiest solution to this would be to allow to attach pack panniers to horses and then lead them. Pack animals should be available to all players either being lead by a rider on a horse or someone on foot. This would allow new players that can't ride horses or carts the ability to move a small amount of supplies, maybe 250kg without having to carry it in inventory. They could still then out run many predators since they aren't carrying a bunch of weight. This idea was brought back into focus for me recently with the removal of crops as sacc'ing items for my Libilia Priest. While Libilia as always had the option to sacrifice butchered items, the amount they weigh as always meant they were left behind due to the ease of using crops. Along with using chopped veggies I now also collect butchered items and forage for all the new cooking items. It doesn't take long to get a lot of weight in inventory. Wandering around the back country on horseback is much easier than driving a cart. While I think that using horses as the pack animal is the easiest for coding, there may be other issues that argue for another type of animal such as a mule or donkey to be used as pack animals. This would provide for additional breeding options. For more information on Horses vs Mules vs Donkeys then you ever wanted to know you can visit this site like I did : http://luckythreeranch.com/lucky-three-ranch-training/mule-facts/ Comments?
  23. Played on a server in WU a while back that had somehow relaxed the restrictions on the slopes a horse can climb. I've always felt the horses in Wurm Online were strangely limited. A horse can climb a pretty steep hill, even with a person on their back if the person leans forward to help out (weight over withers). Having that restriction relaxed a bit was a really nice difference. So... a few ideas. @JockII suggested a new trait of "Goat legs" here. Another option: I think a current trait like Very Strong Leg Muscles could be used as well. It currently allows less speed penalty on a slope. The algorithm could be tweaked to allow a steeper slope w/ speed penalty && the regular slope w/ less speed penalty. Carry More Than Average could also come into play. Perhaps require both traits on a horse to unlock the extra slope capacity of Very Strong Leg Muscles. Or, relax the limit across the board on every horse everywhere without condition. Sounds a bit boring as a solution and a missed opportunity to add a bit of value to animal husbandry Problems? PvP: Defensive designs are based on current horse climbing slopes? If the steeper slope carries a speed penalty with Very Strong Leg Muscles, that would leave the enemy vulnerable even if they could get over a slope on horseback...? PvPers ain't afraid o' no slope. Thoughts? If you're going to -1, please remember to encapsulate that in |..| as we will only be considering the absolute value of responses for now. Thanks!
