  1. Valrei scenarios are completely messed up in the last few days. Mag auto-won, carried over items to the next scenario. Nathan killed him. Didn't drop his (old) items, but did drop the items needed for the current scenario, in smaller quantity than he was carrying. It force-relocated a few other of the current scenario items from elsewhere on the map to Mag's home hex. Completely busted and messed up now, and it doesn't look like Mag has respawned since yesterday either.

In the beginning of June, an unknown adventure shall begin for myself and a group of people who have agreed to join the Epic, Elevation server with the sponsorship and support of AceRifle. We have planned and recruited among our friends, and are now ready to take recruitment to the next level and to start recruiting people we have not yet been in touch with. To make the point of this thread simple and sweet, here is the goal: collecting data and compiling research as to why new players often quit playing Wurm early into their Wurm life, or what inspires them to continue playing Wurm and developing friendships within the community. Whether you're a veteran or a new player, please chime in as to why you believe new players leave Wurm so suddenly, or why they find good reasons to stick around. I would especially appreciate the opinions of new players on this matter, as these testimonies will come from first hand experience. Be sure to list several reasons, in detail, that you feel qualify, such as: Population density - too many people on a server, not enough people, or just the right amount?Game mechanics - maybe it's difficult to understand some features, or perhaps you enjoy the challenge?Friends - hard time making friends, or were you welcomed readily with open arms?Early Stages - is it hard to get past the early stages of leveling up skills, or do you find it relatively easy? How do you feel about the ratio of successes to fails when crafting at low levels? Is getting started on your first projects (such as a house) a good or bad experience?Premium - is it hard to make the leap to buy premium, or did you go all-in and subscribe as soon as you could?Goals - not sure what to focus your efforts on, or do you already have dreams of castles and kingdoms just waiting for you to build them?These are just some ideas to provoke thought and encourage new players to share their experiences.   5. There is something that has been bothering me for some time. Nay not an itch I cannot scratch. Nor a slight pain in the back of my eyes. It is an act that to this day haunts my every night. A great weight that burdens and presses down upon my very soul! It is said confession eases troubled minds. Even a small respite will be welcome, so let us turn back the clock… It was early in Epic’s life span; though, not too early. It had been some time since the BL had raided around the Strongbox. Sticking people with so many arrows, they were as walking pincushions. I was in need of a quick ride, and was looking at the various sailboats beached nearby. Upon one in particular did my gaze befall, and I did covet it. “A sailboat!†I thought to myself full in my hubris, “I’ll steal it! And no one will ever know!†Oh my ignorance! Oh my pride! My ego! My shame! Would that I could reach back across time and throttle myself! Tickled the lock my fingers did (curses thrice upon them!), and there before me was such arms, armor, and gear! Jewels and coin! Take it all I did, ignoring the owner’s mark and name! Spent and used it all. Frittered it away on food, drink, and pleasurable company. Such pointless pursuits! Though, the more I ate, the more the food turned to ash in my mouth, No amount of drink would quench my thirst, And all the pleasurable company in the world would not slake my lust. A cursed man I was! Tested I was! Punished disproportionately to the nature of my crime! If only clothing myself in sackcloth and ashes, wailing and gnashing of teeth would ease me of this! How I to know the owner would become a demigod and in time (alot of time) even a god?!
  6. Gather up, people! I will tell you a story about travels and adventures, lands and seas, priests and monsters! The Story of Epic Priesthood began few days ago, when my beloved wife Sein took our sail boat and travelled to see the volcanoes, on the west part of our continent Serenity... I was busy with something in the village, so she went alone. That day a thick mist fell down... In that mist, Sein travelled too far to the south, and even reached the South Harbour on Serenity. Due to bad weather, she passed along the volcanoes and didn't see them at all, thinking she is still somewhere near the north-western shores. When she realized she is lost and very far from home ( and then she realized she forgot to take food with her ), she cried of help, and I rushed to find her. I grabbed my best armor and weapons, took a small rowing boat, and sailed to one of the harbours on the western shore of our continent to meet Sein. While I was waiting for her, I tried to entertain myself as I could - lighted a few fires, killed few beasts, tamed a brown bear. You know, it's an old russian tradition you know - taming bears while you wait for someone. They are great company when you are bored! About an hour later, when Sein returned, we hid the sailboat near the western shore, and travelled back home. But that's only the half of the story... Next day I fell asleep after the hard work in the village. And Sein decided to go back to the sailboat and check if it's still there... Somehow, she managed to miss all the local monsters, and arrived to the boat. Then she thought 'Why not to try to reach Elevation?'.. Really, why not? So she sailed off the coast to the ocean, in a small sailboat, heading in unknown direction to the lands she never seen... After some time in the endless ocean, she finally saw the far shore of the other continent... It was Elevation! There Sein remembered my story about the Altar of Three Gods, located somewhere in the northern regions. And she thought 'Why not to try to become a priest?'.. Really, why not? It was a late evening, on the unknown shore of the unfamiliar Epic PvP continent... The best time for taking a trip and doing something new, yeah. So she saw a long white ray, coming from the ground up to the sky... Then she sailed there all night, along the wild Elevation shoreline. Hungry bears and sharks were swimming around all night... In the morning, when Sein got closer to the light ray location, she saw TONS OF MONSTERS roaming the shores of the northern peninsula... They all gathered around the Altar, looked like they are guarding it from unwary travellers... Trolls, demons, bears, hellhounds, goblins, spiders - almost all kinds of monsters gathered there. Sein tried to climb out of water to look around, but the shore was too steep... Luckily, there were lots of lost horses swimming around that area... And somehow Sein didn't think about what happened to their previous owners. She thought "Yay! Free horses!!!" So she caught one of the horses, mounted it and climber out of water. Then Sein waited for the best moment, when some monsters move aside, and swiftly rushed to the Altar! Unfortunately, (or luckily) only ONE hellhound noticed her... And chased her of course... Sein was wearing only thin leather armor, so by the time she reached the Altar - her horse was already dead, and Sein had some serious wounds... She quickly activated the Altar of Three... and some inscriptions started to pop up, with some questions, warnings, etc. At the same time the hellhound continued to chew her... tearing her armor and body apart... Boosted by fear and adrenaline rush, Sein clicked everything she could click! Then the Red Tunnel came, and Sein died. A great luck - she managed to choose the correct resurrection point, and appeared in our village, back on Serenity. Naked, frozen and hungry of course... Everything she had was left far behind on the Elevation, near the Altar - like it was a sacrifice to the Gods - a price to become a Priest. By that moment I woke up, and came to see what happened - her cries could wake up the dead... Sein said: 'I think I just became a priest... i'm not sure though...' So I told her to check her Favor - and yep, she had more Favor than a common Follower could ever have! Somehow in the very last moment of her life - she clicked the last window and completed the Ritual.
  7. Rightie.... The scenario/mission system is many years old but its still feels kinda halfdone in certain aspects. Especially the new PMR gods missions which pretty much noone touches atm. So with that said, here is some new stuff to improve it. 1) fix the bug where missions status doesn't switch between enemy/everyone when gods alignment does. (this causes missions to appear doable or undoable while being the opposite) 2) Add colour to the mission progress bar. Red-shaded bar colour for enemy missions. Green-shaded bar colour for missions you have participated in. Available missions that a player hasn't been participated in remains the same as before. In other words: VS It will allow players to quickly identify available missions and easier keep track of the current mission they are doing and also quickly know if they have received sleep bonus from it. Also add a 1 or 2 pixel blue line showing how much you have participated instead of a brand new line. 3) Increase the reward of larger construction projects such as pylons. It's a high difficulty (in other words high fail chance) construction involving 4250 material and terraforming. It takes multiple hours of constructing it and in most cases you are exposed to the enemy during this time. Also divide the scenario points among all participants based on contribution. There is already a list for this... The already excisting plaques. (the plaques list a bit too many players though with no participation... but thats another bug to fix) 4) Greatly increase the scenariopoints/karma of missions that has settlement draining as a requirement and distribute it equally among all players in local that are of the same kingdom as the drainer. 5) If a person doing a valrei structure ritual or tower ritual mission is in a group: Then equally distribute scenario points/karma among the group. 6) Double the rewards of enemy homeserver missions. Increase rewards by half on Elevation. (risk vs reward and promoting pvp) 7) Split scenario point pools of diffrent gods in the spell list. 8) Upon hovering over the scenario point pools currently this is displayed "Scenario Points is a beneficial effect caused by players"... Replace it with information that actually says what it is to newbies. Like "Scenario points are rewarded from missions and have the chance of giving valrei items at the end of a scenario on Epic" 8) Upon hovering over one of the scenario point pools, add a secondary displayed line with the ammount of tickets and the ammount of points to the next ticket and the karma generated from the scenario missions. "Tickets (4), Next ticket (643 points), Karma gained (6700)" sidenote for devs: you only need the already excisting scenario points number to calculate all these things client-sided. 9) Get a ingame valrei map going... ya know... the WIP one posted earlier All the coding excist already and you can borrow some placeholder icons untill proper ones are made if need be Overall I think this will heighten the desire to participate in missions (even if its a PMR god, cuz of that sweet 30min sleep bonus). Especially the more difficult/hostile missions that a lot of people currently pass on. And just in general make valrei and missions feel more complete.
  8. Every one knows that birch, pine and olive trees are frowned on for being invasive and block our view in forests. Well this project is all about the cutting down of all those trees on serenity. Obviously every one should take some sprouts of each trees and make their own little corral of fast growing trees. The plan is simple: First, everyone that participates gather in Strongbox. second, once every one gathered all of us move up northeast with wagons and carts. Third, pick sprouts at their leisure and store them in crates. Fourth, each of us takes 5 tiles wide and start going south fifth, chop down all the pine birch and olive trees in the way, sixth once arrived in the south shore we restart the process more to the west Finally, the trees you cut down and chop up are obviously yours. if you need some one to deliver logs and sprouts i can use my alt to deliver as need be. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

  10. Yeah yeah, escort missions suck bigtime. Especially when the AI you are escorting is downright suicidal. Still how about needing to protect something while everyone else is hell-bent on destroying it? Even something a little Last Guardian... caring for something (dragon?) as a youngling from other players.
  11. Tosiek now favors Jenn-Kellon kingdoms. Tosiek never received help from Elevation. 5/5/15 882 New mission spawned, still considered enemy. Description: Tosiek asks you to sacrifice 1 of the hidden Soulstruck Eyes. We tested to make sure, sacrificed 1 mission item as a tosiek follower and the mission did not complete. It seems that this system is totally broken, tosiek missions always spawn as enemy regardless which kingdom he favors. I'm not aware of a single tosiek mission completing. If anyone knows any differently please post in this thread.
  12. The Horde of the Summoned has a long rich history of war, brutality, deception, and both victories and defeats. It is often perceived as the uncivilized kingdom that is populated by savages who follow no rules or honor, only hatred. The kingdom follows only one god, Libila, who requires her followers to use terror, deception, torture, death, and sacrifices. The Horde is not a kingdom for everyone, and new players will face many struggles, hardships, accusations, and will be forced to earn each others trust. If you’re interested in trying the Horde of the Summoned, here are some highlights about the kingdom: - The Horde of the Summoned is the smallest of the three normal kingdoms on Epic, and often presents more of a challenge to new players because their traditions and small population. Equipment like tools, armor, and weapons are earned through work, dedication, and or PvP, and tends not to be sold abundantly on merchants. This gives players more sense of pride to rightfully earn their equipment as opposed to be given it for free. - Followers of Libila are meant to be evil, and are told to use deceptive tactics in order to succeed. Therefore you will not be punished when stealing, lockpicking, or even attacking fellow Horde members. Libila also possesses some of the strongest spells for PvP, including spells that can drain health or stamina, create mycelium, summon zombies, and even rebirth dead animals (including Champions) into zombie pets. - Mycelium is great for both crafters and fighters. By simply standing on mycelium it will over time raise your nutrition and food to the maximum amount, and at high nutrition you receive a 5% skill gain bonus. Mycelium will grow in houses and naturally spread to infect grass, dirt, and tree tiles if within Horde of the Summoned territory and Libila influence. Additionally a player can absorb a mycelium tile to heal their wound(s) instead of using cotton. To those interested in joining, there are many villages available on Elevation and Affliction and we are sure that at least one of them can suit your needs. Before getting involved in that I wish to see if there is even really a need or interest in one. After all there's tutorials on almost everything else... even ones for the tutorials. One would think if there was really a demand, someone would have done it already. So... what do you think? Should there be one?If so, what are your main concerns or questions in that area?What doesn't the wiki already seem to make clear?What would you look for?EDIT: Something came up I felt I should articulate... I am not talking about ways of gaming the game's rules or exploiting loopholes in those rules. For example imho thievery belongs on pvp servers, where players by the very act of being on such servers have consented to being targets. Kill or be killed basically. Anyone doing such on a Freedom server deserves getting reported and the ensuing consequences. Just because I play a rogue doesnt mean I do not have rules or guidelines. IV. Hypothetically-Speaking A. Spying B. Sabotage C. Downright dirty scoundrel Example section: Lockpicking Lockpicking Lockpicking is fairly self-explanatory. Its the skill for picking locks. In Wurm this allows one to bypass locked doors on structures, vehicles, ships, and containers. This guide will simply refer to all lockable items as containers. The tools needed, lockpicks, can only be made by a locksmith of some skill, so one may wish to pick this up as a side skill as you will go through picks frequently. Knowing a good smith or merchant is another good idea. There are additional benefits from such a relationship, which will be covered later. Lockpicks will break... ALOT. Less so as the quality is higher, and it helps to have several dozen in multiple satchels on one's belt ready to activate. Picks of a ql less than twenty of the lock's ql will not even work to begin with. Once the lock is picked, it will stay open for so many minutes as indicated by Examining, as in the case of gate locks, or as with padlocks, the lock will come off and appear in your inventory. The difficulty of the lock can vary greatly and is dependent on several factors: the container ql, pick ql, examined lock ql (see table 1.1), your skill, the type of container, etc. Ships are more difficult than say a chest, and larger ships more so. The calculated chance is displayed on the menu next to Pick Lock. Table 1.1: Examined Lock Quality Ranges Very poor 1 - 9.99ql Poor 10 - 19.99ql Below average 20 - 29.99ql Okay 30 - 39.99ql Above average 40 - 49.99ql Pretty good 50 - 59.99ql Good 60 - 69.99ql Very good 70 - 79.99ql Exceptional 80 - 89.99ql Fantastic 90 - 99.99ql Some say a minimum of 30 Lockpicking is needed to be effective, personally its more around 50. Also do not be discouraged by lockpicking chances of less than 5%, these containers are still vulnerable to those with time and determination.... and alot of lockpicks.   16. As title says; have multiple different maps presented, then have an in-game poll (or forum poll on Epic forums?) for which one, then pick the one with the majority (or some other method.) I've heard making a map is a lot of effort, so maybe just 2 or 3 potential choices, but it'd be cool to give the players the choice of which one they have more of a preference for. This way, if Rolf has several maps with varying themes (lots of water vs. lots of land vs. lots of mountains), it might make it easier for players to identify something they may enjoy. Just an idea...

I mean, get my feet wet with some Wurm PVP. So, recommendations? Let me hear your pros and cons and what kingdom you'd recommend joining please. As it's all new to me, I don't really have any prejudices of any sort with regard to factions and will consider any that makes a good case for recruitment. Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration.
  18. Hello fellow wurmians, what do you think about adding some spice to Epic? Something that will shake people and add more life to cluster. Once or twice a year (could be discussed later) Valrei gods become displeased with people of epic. So they fall asleep, and leave people for 48 hours without their protection and patronage. During these 48 hours epic players would see/feel/have: no magic at all (gods are sleeping and can't lend you their power) no altar influence and god domains 30% chance that Meditation bonuses (erupt/enchant/fear/teleport/recall home/and all others) will work no reputation hits and no penalties (sleeping gods can't judge you) possibility to threaten enemy kingdom merchants on Homeservers That could be called The Massacre, or The Purge.
  19. Let champs use portal to cross into home server and elevation on epic. They can cross over by boat then they should be able to cross over by portal.
  20. Many ppl know valrei, the god system, the missions and the fun things it comes with. There is however no guide on the forum, the wiki or any explanation in game about the valrei system. We use a 3rd party website ( http://strikelimit.co.uk/Valrei/index.php ) that works decent and thumps up to the dude that made it but it could use an explanation in the tutorial, the wiki, a forum guide and maybe the game (no clue how hard this is coz im not the smartest dude around). Simply what the title says - remove seryll, glimmer, and ada items/lumps/ore/etc. from the mission database, as in - no missions should ever spawn for Valrei that require sacrifice of the base ore/lumps or any items derived from them, of any quality level. Almost every other mission I can think of is possible with enough population/time/effort, as the resources needed are available in the persistent world, or are driven by skills (i.e. create 20 colossus may take forever and not get done in a given mission timer period, but with enough people, there's no reason it couldn't be - clay, stone/bricks, and people - nothing outrageous there in terms of need - if the desire to get the mission done is present). Currently there is a "sacrifice 500 decent seryll lumps" mission up on Serenity - - there's no reason this mission or any like it should be included in the mission database. While technically possible, it is not feasible or plausible - even if the server were to have a full 400 population, all of whom save every lump of seryll they've ever obtained ever for a mission, and then all sacced it - it's questionable if that would be enough lumps, let alone enough of 30 ql (decent). I'd wager that 500 decent seryll lumps haven't even been generated on Serenity ever. These moon metals are rare enough and valuable enough as it is - there's no reason to include missions that require them, as there is no plausible way they will ever get done, even if player desire is at 110%...amounting to stalled missions, stalled Valrei progress, and general frustration. I'd add in remove sacrifice 1000 decent white-dotted flowers too, but that'd be a bit of a hijack of my own topic. Every mission should be doable based on persistently available resources, skills, creature counts on the servers, with enough population, etc. While making 50 caravels may not get done - it COULD get done without relying on limited-spawn resources like moon metals. Otherwise, these particular moon metal-related missions just amount to the RNG deciding which faction gets shafted in a scenario, and that's wrong - elements of randomness are fine of course in the mission selection, but every mission SHOULD be REALISTICALLY doable - even if that means the server had to be at full pop and work non-stop through the duration of the mission, so be it - but missions involving obscene numbers of ultra-rare materials don't do anything for the gameplay except create roadblocks and dictate event outcomes that should be dictated by true hard work and sacrifice by the players, not losing RNG roulette.

Sianna did not know, SB before and after. Was also told that Rooferrob/Redfive also did mission The tree made did not vanish after using it for the ritual, so maybe everyone used the same two trees. But all of the rituals counted so it should be the same as doing the mission.
  23. If it's time for a new mission but the server is down, the new mission never starts. It just happened with Magranon. A mission expired on Elevation during maintenance restart but there was no new mission. It has happened again in the past.
  24. About us This group is just starting at the moment it is just me but my dream ever since i started playing wurm online was to make a group of pirates. We would become masters at naval warfare and Quick attacks. We would raid and just have fun PVPing. new or old players it wouldnt matter cause everyone starts new and even the known players once couldnt even lift a sword. Dawn raiders main fighting skill would be navy. The dream was that everyone would know and fear the dawn Raider name, and everytime they got in a boat they would be always looking around to see the Dawn was coming for them. This whole group like many other Known groups today is starting with just a idea and a dream,People will say its crazy, that it cant work and or people will just leave or never join. Truth is that most people fear the new and out of the box ideas. The Dawn Raiders will only be one thing, we will be pirates and ghosts, with help and with learning from trial and error ME and you that join can learn to be the best navy and Known raiders. Dawn raiders will be MR, it gives us a chance to beat and fight the best navy out there and also give us a god of war on our side.
