  1. My thoughts is that regardless of the server being open to old characters or not, there will be benefits for wurm. Probably blocking old characters will lead to an increase in the number of premium accounts, some will be new players and some will be old players alts. Even old players alts contribute to CodeClub financing - they might have the silver to prem their alts but the total amount of coin in circulation will decrease, deflation if not countered by people who put in more money. I believe that new players ARE daunted by competition from old characters - maybe it is an unfounded feeling - but having had it myself (More so in like EVE-online) I think others might have it as well. Wurm needs fresh blood, the more blood, the more devs that can make shiny stuff. That being said, I will start playing again regardless of the server being open to veteran characters or not, provided Xanadu is released. One can look at it from this perspective too: For such a gargantuan server to be successful, they will need to fix lag, eventually benefiting all of the servers. Sorry if this post is incomprehensible - too much thesis this week.
  2. I would like to nominate Bibi and Brainer to santa for being super nice and saving me, my gf and my corbita from the bayview canal and all its monsters!
  3. Dear Santa! I know this is a busy time for you, organizing your elves, solving the traveling salesman problem for 7 billion nodes as well as grooming Rolf, your red nosed developer. That's why I think a single thread with wishlists for Christmas would make your job a lot easier then having to plow through all the other topics. First and foremost, I think I have been a good wurmian. I work hard and recently took in a newborn wurmian into my fold. I didn't do it just because Christmas times are soon upon us, I promise! Here goes, Dear Santa, for Christmas I want: Reindeers and to be able to put their antlers on my walls (I would never kill them of course, only antlers from reindeers who died of old age, promise!) Snowballs, by activating hand and a snow-covered tile. Missiles should instantly obliterate abandoned noobshacks. Mulled wine, (Glögg!) to make more people around the world accustomed to this fantastic drink. Body temperature system. To make us wurmians appreciate a warm campfire even more. More and warmer clothes for tailoring. Combined with sheep and above this could be really cool. Pepparkakor (Gingerbread), higher quality would benefit the next point which is: Glasyr (No idea what it's called in English) to write cute messages to those you like on your Pepparkakor. For everybody else to write their wish lists in comic sans, the ultimate font.
  4. The more ingredients = better nutrition thing is mainly thought to increase the need for odd ingredients like berries, spices and mushrooms. It is also a bit of a "quick-fix" and might not be the ultimate way to implement cooking. As for mead, yes, we would need honey it might be something simple as building a manmade bee-hive (or whatever they are actually called in english) and the production being a function of flower/grass tiles nearby. +1 if you a fail at extracting the honey would have you run headlong into water! Another idea for alcohol would be as a form of upkeep for tower guards. Then they at least have some motivation to save you, their source of alcohol.
  5. Heya! Sorry if these ideas have been posted before, I am way too lazy to search properly. Today: Many foodstuffs have limited uses and/or is very difficult to make. Some things have only novelty value, like wine. It's comparatively easy to make high nutrition food consistently, meals can be created from 0 HFC and still get you to 60% nutrition. Many potential ingredients have little to no value, devaluing the use of foraging and milling for example. Suggestions: HFC overhaul! Let nutrition value of a cooked food be a function of the number of different ingredients inside. Make reaching the cap of 100% nutrition require a LOT of ingredients. QL of a cooked foodstuff somewhat decrease the decay rate of the food, also fills hunger/nutrition bar faster with hiqh ql. Effects: Cooking is more interesting, more realistic (although, this is hardly a goal to strive for IMO), cooking is harder, making the output more valuable to those who choose to spend time on it. Other skills increase in value. Beverages Give alcoholic drinks a (de?)buff that increases difficulty of actions. The more drunk you are, the harder stuff is to do and the more skill you gain! Slightly reduces time to skill on high levels. (Boring) alternative: just give it a 5% modifier. If you want a more complicated system, have an optimal level of drunkenness where stuff is really difficult to make. Over that, player randomly stops actions and pukes Makes alcoholic beverages more interesting and also increase their value. High skill players might need a lot of a product that is in limited supply but still is not too hard for a newbie to make. Mead We have knarrs and axes, the lack of Mead makes the road to Valhalla boring :<
  6. This seems to have also fixed the loading issues I had on Ubuntu, maybe connected to heightmap bugfix
  7. On ubuntu, now I can't load the save I made earlier. Stacktrace: Exception in thread "Thread-0" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 25at Mapper.Graphics.MiscRenderer.renderLines(MiscRenderer.java:220)at Mapper.Graphics.MiscRenderer.renderGrid(MiscRenderer.java:208)at Mapper.Graphics.MiscRenderer.update(MiscRenderer.java:33)at Mapper.Mapper.draw(Mapper.java:215)at Mapper.Mapper.loop(Mapper.java:131)at Mapper.Mapper.access$200(Mapper.java:36)at Mapper.Mapper$1.run(Mapper.java:118) Save file: http://pastebin.com/uUbe0bGc
  8. Okay, some more info, this problem is on Win7 Pro 64-bit. A bit unclear which java version is running, probably 1.6... I have several installed. Works fine on Ubuntu.
  9. Java crash on resizing. Happens when I: Add width to right Add width to left Adding height doesn't crash the program but however I add it, I can not change elevation on top n added tiles. Nothing is written in error log of program.
  10. Soo, I had lots of issues getting wurm to run in fullscreen with unity. My workaround is using unity2d instead of unity3d. This is confirmed to work on ubuntu 12.04. Open your favourite terminal and type: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:unity-team/staging sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install unity-2d Next log out, click the small icon in login box and choose Unity2d. Log in ??? Profit!
