  1. I have the same problem as OP, no matter what I do in the GUI (both WU & Dedicated Server) there is no adminpwd active in the game. There is a property in the 'serverproperties' table 'called ADMINPASSWORD'; it's the only place in the wurmlogin.db that I found something relevant. I stopped the server, then updated the field into the adminpwd I want, and then restarted the server. GUI reads the property and displays the value in the corresponding field. However, when the server starts, it clears the value and there's still no adminpwd active in the game.

I was wondering how you made this 10c reward for voting on wurm-unlimited servers list.

Comeback Raemus had been away for 25 days, but came back yesterday with high hopes of more cruding towards the set goals. She found the (Latio) shack almost decayed away, with only two walls still standing (at 80-90 damage); luckily the containers and items inside were ok, only needed repairs. All her fields had become grass; but she could not replant as she couldn't find keys for the FSB-BSB where she had stored her resources. She added 28 stone bricks to the guard tower (Masonry: 9). In the animal pens she found a pair of horses and a foal - plus one of her cows still alive! She repaired the fence so that the animals don't get lost (Carpentry: 15). She tended all crops she found (Slyther's pumpkins are ready for harvesting) and groomed all animals (Animal Husbandry: 3). She would have played more, but as she couldn't access her resources and she didn't feel like foraging again for hours... 2 hours of gameplay: /uptime -> You have played 2 days, 18 hours and 47 minutes.

Adventure! Tended crops (Farming: 6). Made a floor loom and imped BSB, FSB, crate, barrel, large and small chest, handcart (Fine Carpentry: 9, Carpentry: 14) . Started cooking casseroles (Cooking: 5). Imped oven and coffin (Masonry: 8). Mined (15) iron ore and created and imped medium mauls x2. Woodcutting (15) with Sickle (4). Then went on an field trip to find cows for riding! To the north of the lake Raemus found an huge abandoned deed (Damien's?) where everything was in huge decay - and repaired everything (Repairing 9 -> 16)! She dual-wielded sickles and killed 5 bulls, 1 dog and 2 roosters, (Fighting: 3) which provided hides and a precious pelt! She found 2 cows, which with great difficulty, due to steepness of the terrain next to the water, managed to lead to Latio where Romulous built a fenced area to keep them in. The abandoned deed has an abundance of olive trees, that during their harvest time (it's almost here!) will provide olives for oil for making our compasses! Due to miscalculation, Raemus left adventuring without her trusty carving knife (or a saw), only a hatchet and her sickles - which inevitably brougth her to the very difficult situation of not being able to make crude campfire! Why? Because although she could cut trees down (sickle or hatchet), and chop them to logs (hatchet), and produce kindling (hatchet), there was nothing that she could craft with a hatchet and a log that would have as by-product woodscrap! She came up with an ingenuous solution to this: she chopped down young trees, that only produce woodscrap! Observations on food: Risotto(hot) of 6ql raised nutrtion to 56%. Eating casserole(hot) of 21ql retained nutrition to 56%. Eating casserole(hot) of 18ql dropped nutrition to 54%. Eating casserole(hot) of 21ql dropped nutrition to 51%. Eating casserole(hot) of 21ql raised nutrition to 52%. Overall, 13 hours of fun time well-spent: /playtime -> You have played 2 days, 16 hours and 52 minutes. I will be away for the following two weeks, due to an unexpected trip that came up. I hope my three colleagues will keep the diary alive! Cya

Guys, there IS tar in the BSB; I brought some the day before yesterday...
  6. Cruding Xanadu

Welcome! Get in contact with Romulous to give you permissions to the shack, we keep the FSB key there, in the forge. Conquestor is the guy who's building the mansion above Latio - and above all, we started on the Guard Tower!

Tools spree and impalong Apart from sustenance activities, like tending the fields (Farming: 4), Fishing (10) and making stews (Hot Food Cooking: 10), the main focus today for Raemus was the creation and imping of iron and wood tools. After Mining (12) in the darkness of the tunnels for a couple of hours, because a campfire could not be lit as the floor of the cave was level with water level, she gathered enough iron to make tools and stuff. She bent her back over the small, and the large, anvils, and made: hatchet, pickaxe, butchering knife, leather knife, awl, trowel, branding iron, pliers, wires, hooks, large padlocks, short sword, long spears, shovel, sickle, scythe, frying pans, cauldrons, and scissors. These, and all she had made previously, she improved as much as possible, the main showstopper being the lack of a pelt (Blacksmithing: 16). Then she turned to woodcrafting and made: grooming brush, rope tool, fruit press, and shield (medium wooden shield). These, and all she had made previously, she improved as much as possible, the main showstopper being the lack of a pelt (Carpentry: 12). Conqueror crafted a Food Storage Bin, which he locked, a Bulk Storage Bin, which he can't 'plant' quite yet, and a Training Dummy! Romulus crafted more chainmail parts for everyone: gauntlets, sleeves, and pants! In the evening, Raemus invested all her wemp fibre into making ropes for everyone (Ropemaking: 2). She went on a scouting expedition to collect animals, for riding-fighting-butchering-leather... unfortunately, she lost both the sheep she found, and the bull, which proved un-ridable for newbies. In the end, she compromised into killing her sixth rooster with her longspear, in a short and easy fight (Fighting: 2). The expedition proved a social success though, as she met neighbors: Talston and Albern in their hidden retreat. The collective decision was to start on a Guard Tower, so she went digging (17) for clay. Observations: a. Crude campfire is always 1ql and lasts (with 20kg log) about 30 min. b. Cannot take stew from a barrel with a pottery bowl, but can with a cauldron... c. Nutrition down to 18% by eating foraged stuff. Raised to 39% with hot stew of 25ql. Then fell to 33% with cold stew of 25ql. Raised to 42% with hot stew of 30ql. Raised to 43% with hot gulash 10ql. /playtime -> You have played 2 days, 3 hours and 44 minutes.

Iron at last! Raemus tunneled 4 rock wall tiles (Mining: 11) towards the iron vein, and destroyed 5 crude pickaxes in the process. An interesting feature to note is that, while the crude axe gives Woodcutting-level QL felled trees, the crude pickaxe always give QL:1 rock shards! Invested some time in improving wooden tools (Carpentry: 10), although the lack of a pelt made this process somewhat frustrating. Raemus made 10 pottery jars and improved them (Pottery: 12) that will be needed for expeditions. Note: it seems that campfire made from kindling and woodscrap (crude campfire) is always 'birchwood campfire', no matter the type of wood one uses. Romulous and Conqueror broke to the iron vein - no more rummaging! Conqueror will be making a training dummy, and Romulous started chainsmithing for our first armor gear (2xboots and coiff at the moment, 10ql). Slyther has broken into her own iron vein on the opposite side of the lake. Only 4 hours of gameplay yesterday: /playtime -> You have played 1 days, 11 hours and 48 minutes.
  9. We've had a discussion about when the project will be finished, as two of the guys have prem-ed their crudist chars, and the other two haven't. I think that a suitable goal for a non-prem char in the crudist setting is to come the end state of having all the items of the starter kit (http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Starter_kit). At that point, the char will be a starting newbie like any other, and the concept will have been proven. Any thoughts on that?

Newbie Buffs are now extinct... It's dark! Raemus spent much time Fishing (8) and Hot Food Cooking (8) stews, because hunger has become an issue with her, and the other two members of the conclave. In the process, she crafted and improved lots of Pottery (9) bowls. Romulous built our first Handcart and an Oven(!), not remembering that we'll not be able to light it without flint&steel. Raemus continued Blacksmithing (4) and made stone chisels, needles, a hand axe (weapon+woodcutting), a file and a hammer. Then she turned to Carpentry (8) and made a small barrel to hold the stew she's been cooking. She turned her hands to Masonry (4) and Stone Cutting (4) and made a coffin for storage and decay prevention. She also used up 3 crude shovels to level (Digging: 15) 35 tiles for farming, sowing mostly cotton, wemp, potatoes, plus some corn and pumpkins. It appears that the Leveling action creates much less damage on the crude tool than the Digging action, per dirt dug out! After finishing her garden, she Prospected (5) and found indications of an iron vein some 10+ tiles away from the tunnel entrance they had made, so along with Romulous and Conquestor, she started Mining (7) the rock tiles in the mine to get to the iron; she broke two crude pickaxes in the process and cleared 3 tiles. BUSTED: the common opinion that crude tools are slower than starter/iron proved a misconception, as they showed exact same times in the same (effective) QL range. During this activity, Raemus acquired her second rare: rare rock shards A major problem proved lighting, as the newbie 'faint light' was extinguished, and there is no apparent way to ignite a portable source of light without steel&flint! It's good that her fellows still have it and can go deep in the tunnels, and provide some light for her as well; but other than building a campfire and keeping it stoked, she can't see how those dark dungeons can be lighted... After an hour of collective rummaging, the three pioneers collected enough iron rocks to craft the next hot item, a major step in expanding capabilities, a Large Anvil! A full 12 hours of gameplay today: /playtime -> You have played 1 days, 7 hours and 44 minutes.

12 more hours of cruding: Raemus continued loitering around Linton, focusing on raising Digging (10) and Woodcutting (12) skills, breaking two crude shovels and three crude axes in the process. It became apparent that crude axe gives pickaxe skill (probably a bug). Also, the crude knife takes no damage from carving, and it loses ql when stonecutting, instead of damaging (bug also?). It is not possible to bury corpses with the crude shovel (glitch?), although butchering with the crude knife works; I left a trail of butchered roosters and hens in my wake. The crude axe cannot create kindlings out of woodscrap, the way a hatchet can, but the crude knife covers there. Raemus banked the rare coins found from Foraging (14) and Botanizing (10): 1 silver, 46 copper and 38 iron! Her first rare item created: rare crude shovel blade After meeting with Slyther, who will be joining later, Raemus rendezvous'd with her older brother Romulous, and together they started on the long trip from Linton to the chosen spot; they went SW from Linton to the north coast of the small inner lake (deed Mill Hollow), then S along the lake's coast till its south coast (deed Prog), then W past that along the coast and a bit N, at exactly the south-west point. This is where we'll build Rome (currently the first shack is in place 'Latio'). There's clay nearby, and tar, lots of rock, and water; but unfortunately no iron detected yet. On the way, they encountered not a single mob, although they did glimpse two scorpions in the long distance; she killed two more roosters (Aggressive Fighting: 10), where she noticed that even the staff was worthless, and she simply slapped them to death empty-handed. So far, the only weapon that made some impression better than empty hands has been the branch! Raemus gathered clay and crafted 15 pottery bowls and some jars (Pottery: 8). Then processed all the iron she had gathered with Romulous, to make iron tools and materials: carving knives, saws, rakes, chisels, spatula, clay shaper, spindle, nails large and small, and a door lock (Blacksmithing: 3, Carpentry: 7). Using newly crafted fishing rods by Romulous, she fished a lot (Fishing: 5) and started making stews to solve the hunger problem and raise Hot Food Cooking skill (4). Meanwhile, Romulous built the shack and a small chest to put things into, so we're more or less established now. Late in the day, a shipwrecked newbie by the name of Conquestor washed ashore, and he gladly joined our project. Raemus has 3 hours left in her newbie buffs.

  13. Cruding Xanadu

The first 10 hours: Raemus started at Linton, and kept close for the availability of refreshment by the barkeep. The Newbie spells (Health, Aggro Range, Food) proved very effective, a nice addition to the game. Items: starter tent and starter toolbelt. Raemus spent many hours foraging and botanizing; as expected, the most difficult resource to acquire was the notorious 'branch'. She kept only whatever might come handy in early farming (cotton, wemp, potato, corn) and used the rest of the finds for creating healing covers; everything not kept, was invariably sold to the Linton token. After acquiring the necessary amount of 5 branches (3 for crude shafts for crude pickaxe-shovel-axe plus 2 for shafts for mallet), Raemus left exploring south to find rock tiles. It took some travelling to such a location (two map grids southwest of Linton), but rummaging proved fruitful; Raemus collected as many iron rocks as she could carry, plus one only rock shard. There she made without great difficulty the Crude Knife, then crude shafts and shafts from the carried branches and shovel blade and axe/pickaxe heads from carried shards. She made the attachments and completed the crude set in her inventory with Crude Shovel, Crude Pickaxe, Crude Axe. Using the axe, she cut down a tree and chopped it up; then used the crude knife to produce kindling from a log. The production of woodscrap was a bit indirect, as it can only be produced as by-product of other products; so she made several fishing hooks, until she had enough for a campfire (need 1.5 kg of kindling and 1.5 kg of woodscrap to light). Campfire! Fed the rest of the log to the fire, and dropped all the iron rocks inside; until they became lumps glowing red (takes some time with 1ql campfire) she crafted the mallet head from carried shaft and attached it to the other carried shaft, so that she acquired her new precious tool: Mallet. From the rest of the shaft that made the mallet head, she made handles. She used the mallet on the glowing hot iron lump to create another precious tool: Small Anvil. With the rest of the iron, she made a Carving Knife Blade on the small anvil, attached it to a handle, and came up with a precious iron Carving Knife! Combat: Raemus fought three roosters, in Aggressive mode and Weaponless Fighting. One she slapped to death with her empty hands (almost died there), one she mauled to death with a branch equipped (easy kill) and almost lost to another while equipping all the available crude tools (in the end she slapped it to death empty-handed). Raemus skilled Healing and used cotton and healing covers, although newbie health would have taken care of the roosters' pecks easily. It appears that crude tools are totally useless in combat, and moreover they take damage instead of losing ql (could be a glitch), so the most efficient weapon turned up to be the Branch! With her new carving knife Raemus made herself a Staff to use in the next fight. Skills: Foraging 13 and Botanizing 10 and Nature 7, Healing 3 and First Aid 6, Masonry 3 and Stone Cutting 3, Aggressive Fighting 7, Repairing 5, Alchemy 4 and Natural Substances 9, Woodcutting 5 and Carpentry 4. Remaining: 15h Newbie Spells (although 11 hours character life).

This thread is for the diary or our little crudist project that started today. We will post the updates below, so that you can interspacededly comment...
  15. I've been using the new item Crude Axe and noticed that it gives PICKAXE skill, not Axe. Also that it takes damage, in contrast with the rest of the Crude items that lose QL instead. Also, all crude tools take damage while in combat, but they hardly ever inflict damage (empty hands do much more). I was not able to bury corpses with the crude shovel. The crude knife, when used for carving shows no damage or ql loss, but loses ql when used as chisel, and get damaged if used in combat. Crude shovel takes damage while digging. I cannot use the crude axe to produce kindling from woodscrap, the way I can with a hatchet. Crude axe takes damage when woodcutting/chopping. Crude axe produces Woodcutting level QL of felled trees and logs, while crude pickaxe only produces 1ql rock shards ever. The Leveling action creates much less damage on the crude tool than the Digging action, per dirt dug out. It seems that campfire made from kindling and woodscrap (crude campfire) is always 'birchwood campfire', no matter the type of wood one uses.
  16. Will do. Keep your eyes open for Raemus and Remulous (the third alt is yet to be named); they are currently loitering around Linton's token... We dropped everything, except the toolbelt and tent, before going to Linton. Like you say, only what we can make with our own hands. That extends to not using what other players have made, or receiving help, or lucky finds (e.g. newb corpse drop piles, guard towers, existing abandoned deeds & mines, etc). About crude toolset you can read more here: http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Crude and here (recent addition): http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Crude_axe
  17. I play at GMT+3, but the other two guys are at GMT-5 (Iowa and Texas iirc). We are already creating alts and familiarizing ourselves with the area of Linton. However, the official start will be on Monday, Aug 10th 13:00 GMT. We'd be happy to have you with us!
  18. Being unpopulated is only part of the equation; water, iron, woods, etc. being among the rest of the factors to decide to deed a place. And so few only because we're simply 'cruding', as opposed to 'devoting' our in-game life to that deed. That being said, I totally agree with you: ΑÎΔΡΩΠΕΠΙΦΑÎΩΠΠΑΣΑ ΓΗ ΤΑΦΟΣ (The whole earth is the sepulchre of famous men) * replace Earth with Xanadu
  19. Starter tents Our game time is of necessity limited, unfortunately, and we don't want to spend it on endlessly walking back and forth the starting town from accidental deaths. We had decided to deed wherever we would toil, which would help with resurrection distances on Xanadu. However it turned out that it is hard to come to a good spot, so we'd probably incur more cost moving the deed once or twice. Enter starter tents: we will use them as resurrection points until we decide on the correct point to deed, whether it be one or twelve days... Toolbelt We feel that it is a convenient item to have; it is GUI/HUD oriented, so it doesn't really affect the survivalistic spirit of our project. We could easily do without, and the in-game experience would be exactly the same (times, failures, etc), just ourselves as users less comfortable. It doesn't seem to affect the adventure we'll be having at all...
  20. I intend to make a crude diary on some post about the adventures we'll have.
