  1. If Elevation is any gauge, a reset (assuming it gets mass support) will bring more people initially. There'll be a land rush and they'll spend hours upon hours building their new deeds and everything will be new and exciting. Then a few weeks later, they'll start thinking "y'know, I kind of miss my old server. I have a lot of good memories of that place." Then they'll become disillusioned, realizing that they lost everything that they spent all that time on, and they'll play less and less until the server becomes more deserted than it's ever been. The nuclear option isn't the answer. People leave games over time. You can't fight that. Doesn't matter how good or timeless the game is; they moved on from Ultima, they'll move on from Wurm. Instead of trying to keep those same people here forever, the goal should be to bring in new players at a faster rate than current players leave. But Wurm's advertising is still basically non-existent, so of course this natural blood loss will outpace population growth. The game itself is solid. It's the community that's crumbling.
  2. Is there anything in the works to help us destroy underground buildings during raids? Bashing by hand isn't exactly practical.
  3. Archer?

If you're far enough away from the creature when you shoot it, it won't come after you. It'll just panic and run around in circles.
  4. Archer?

Arrows can take a bit of time to make. But if you're willing to do that, archery is perfectly viable in PvE.
  5. It can sometimes take several hours to get into a deed. And the mailing system was never intended to be a deed security feature in the first place.
  6. Plot Course has already cut travel times so much, they may as well add a right click -> teleport option to boats. At some point, too much convenience can be a bad thing.
  7. I'm so angry about not getting my .005kg of drake hide that I think I just pooped a little. Time to spend real-life money to passive-aggressively vent my frustrations toward strangers on the Internet.
  8. I don't care if home servers get missions, go ahead and let them contribute or whatever, but scenarios shouldn't be purely determined by home servers racing each other to find white dotted flowers. Put same-kingdom home server missions on a cooldown like all missions used to be, but leave Elevation and enemy home server missions on the quick respawn timers that they currently have.
  9. I'll have to double-check that, though I killed some sharks afterward and they did seem to give quite a lot of skill compared to other animals, despite being relatively easy and bison-y. Should be easily testable so I'll update this post later with expected vs. actual skillgain.
  10. In most cases, you can use any wood you want and it'll be equally effective. There are a few exceptions, such as willow being preferable for bows and fishing rods, oak for tools, and maple/cedar for arrows. Walnut provides a bonus to charcoal piles, so if you see yourself having need for high-quality steel in the future, you could save it for that. Otherwise it simply comes down to preference.
  11. The hate tile has to be mycelium and away from water. Then the surrounding 5x5 area needs one of the following: 1) 4+ mycelium thorn bushes, or 2) one tile of marsh, tundra, clay, or tar. This is pulled directly from the code so it should be accurate. Also, yeah, mycelium will decay without HotS influence.
  12. I have a picture of him on the ceiling above my bed
  13. It must've been broken since at least 2008. That's when Rolf explained the intended calculation, anyway. With the old calculation, picking up random bits of CR from outside sources was critical. Being a king or having a 90 Nimbleness weapon, for example, used to provide the equivalent of 60 extra FS. Now it's 15. So in that sense, CR becomes more "accessible" in that you don't need heavily enchanted weapons or kingdom bonuses to compete. It'll also make it much harder to just throw a huge axe on a f2p account and suicide into people, and while this could cause a problem for newbies, realistically speaking, very few people enter PvP with sub-70 FS anyway. So the difference between an entry-level fighter and a top-tier one is 5-6 CR, which seems about right in my opinion. Downsides include reducing the impact of the anti-gank bonus (not that that was ever really a game-changer in the first place), the effects of slashing weapons' special moves (the ones that say "X loses concentration" are really just CR debuffs, despite the old rumor that it reduces focus), and the CR granted at focus level 3 and above. Flanking, height bonus, and footing are multiplicative rather than additive, so that should all remain as effective as it was before. Same goes for the penalty received from being bashed and fighting on an enemy home server.
  14. While this isn't totally relevant to me since I'm not on the same cluster, I'd 100% support something like this if I were. Community (or lack thereof) is the one thing that will make or break a person's experience in Wurm. It's the reason why a few people quitting tends to have such a snowball effect. And it applies everywhere. If I were to draw a parallel on PvP servers, everyone says "the map is too big" or "we don't want to travel half an hour to fight", except...you're kinda the one who put yourself in that position, aren't you? You decided to build on the absolute polar opposite side of a 256km^2 map. And this goes to show that, at some base level, we have control over our own communities and we can't expect Code Club to wave a magic wand and fix the problems that we ourselves are responsible for.
  15. The devs say there's a "definite possibility" that they'll be adding it, pending some changes to the engine.
  16. For simplicity and to reduce clutter, the Valrei map should be accessible from a button on the regular world map. Aside from making it more intuitive to get to the Valrei map, it'll make the scenario system (and in turn, Epic) more visible to people who otherwise wouldn't know anything about it.
  17. Epic: "Well, we wiped Elevation and PvP hasn't magically gotten better. Any other ideas?" Chaos: "Let's wipe it again!" Epic: "..." Chaos: "But this time, force them to move to a server that they deliberately chose not to play on, make them buy PMKs, and then let those landless, 5-person PMKs get kicked in the nuts by the bandwagoners that own the entire server. That'll make them want to play again!" Since Epic and Chaos populations are more or less equal (though at the time of writing this, Chaos has 22 people and Epic has 40), if we're really serious about a merge, let's do it in true Wurm fashion: leave it up to RNG. Flip a coin. If heads, Epic gets nuked. If tails, Chaos gets nuked. Loser has to move to the winner's cluster. And if you're not willing to accept the possibility of your own server getting deleted, you're in no position to demand that other people have their servers deleted. And besides, when you consider that 70% of Epic consists of home server players who aren't interested in that type of PvP in the first place and would probably choose Freedom over Chaos, and another 10-20% are Ele players who would quit after having their work deleted (again), Chaos would gain, what, another dozen people divided out over the US/Euro/AUS time zones? Hope that temporary boost is worth pissing off half of your PvP playerbase that you're trying so hard to resurrect. Truth is, Epic and Chaos are both suffering population-wise. A merge would be yet another bandaid and yet another mass exodus from the PvP side of Wurm. Just because it would help you does not mean it's good for PvP or the game in general. I'm not the type to throw out these types of threats casually, but a large number of people would quit from this. And when PvPers leave, so does the money that they bring in, and that makes it even harder for Rolf to justify spending dev resources on this side of the game. Then, the updates that you're all crying so much about -- you know, the ones that are supposedly going to revitalize PvP and bring in new blood before our servers die altogether -- will take longer to be added, assuming they even get added at all. Hasty, high-impact decisions are part of what killed PvP on Elevation, and they can absolutely kill PvP on Chaos as well. And I really hate to throw stones at other PvPers during times like this, but this has to be said: Chaos has long held the reputation of hosting some of the most exploitative, metagamey PvPers around. Not everyone, obviously, but enough for it to be a noticeable stain on what should be a proud, historic server. But since winning is clearly the most important part of any game, you have to stack everyone you can onto your kingdom, no matter how heavily you're already dominating the map (honor is for losers, like the Mongols). Drop empty war deeds everywhere so your enemies can't expand or drain without it showing up on Twitter, at which point you can teleport in from anywhere to defend. But because dying on Chaos means you also die in real life, this defense should include the use of throwaway alts wherever possible. The alts that you use to artificially inflate your fightskill and give yourself affinities will work perfectly for this. And if somehow you still can't win by doing that, abuse any and all bugs you know of, because lord knows Code Club won't punish you for it; hell, if by some miracle they don't let you keep your cheated skills or your bugged weapons, just throw a tantrum on the forum about "GM intervention," because everyone knows you're the real victim here. And the weirdest part about all of this is, we all treat this cancer as if it's such a vital cornerstone of Wurm PvP that nobody even considers the possibility of disrupting the Chaos side of things for the sake of this supposedly all-important merge. Instead, simply use Chaos's little brother as a guinea pig for new features which will eventually make their way to Chaos, and once you've squeezed all the usefulness and life out of him, absorb him back into the fold for your own benefit. Same song, different verse.
  18. According to Rolf, this is how CR should work: 1 point of CR per 5 skill. Now with that in mind: if (this.creature.isPlayer()) { if (opponent.isPlayer()) { combatRating = (float)(combatRating + this.creature.getFightingSkill().getKnowledge(0.0D) / 20.0D); } It should be Fight Skill / 5, not Fight Skill / 20. FS / 20 means that a 100 FS player only gets 5 more CR than a 0 FS player, instead of the +20 CR that they're supposed to have.
  19. All of the trees in this picture are infected. The group on the left is slightly too far away, so they render as regular uninfected trees. Move half a tile forward and the entire block of trees renders properly. This happens with all trees, not just walnuts.
  20. I like this suggestion because finally the devs would be at the mercy of RNGesus just as much as we are. Imagine having to create a whole new set of spells by hand every time someone got a key. Bet we'd see some changes around here real quick. +1
  21. Did you remember to deed your milk and cookies? If not, there's nothing we can do.
  22. Before PvP changes: "Why is this taking so long?! We need these changes NOW! This is why PvP is dying!" After PvP changes: "You ###### idiots should have tested this more! This is why PvP is dying!"
  23. Looks like it's time to bring back the Tar Pit Pls Rolf Do it
  24. Only armor and horse gear get the title bonus.
