Getting people to play a niche game is, imo, a matter of finding those for whom this particular niche is a fit and reaching out to those people.   Trying to appeal to people who have no interest in this type niche in the first place is like, pardon the expression, p*ssing in the wind.  I don't believe you can "get" people to play a niche game. Those looking for a niche will seek one out. Those who just want the next eye-candy version of what they always play, will not.

I see no point in trying to appeal to the so-called masses. The whole point of playing a niche game in the first place is to play something different. At least that's the way it seems to me.   If I wanted a vanilla game that's just like every other game out there, the internet is clogged with them (almost to the point of absurdity).  As far as I'm concerned, "mainstream" is vastly overrated and something to be avoided, not sought.

I tend to agree. On the other hand we should keep in mind that a commercial game needs a certain amount of paying players in order to survive. So, the niche must not be too small :)

  2. In addition to the OP suggestion: why does there have to be any terraforming at all? What is the reason for a rift altering the existing landscape - nobody really needs that and nobody ever asked for it.

(Maybe the devs thought this might be a "cool feature", but they should have realized by now that the community does not really share their opinion ;))

So: please remove the terraforming done by rifts, and (as suggested several times before) confine the rifts to certain special areas that are unused and undeveloped by players.

    A new version (V 3.1.0.0) is available!

Download the new version here: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/kz2703h7for4etk/WurmClock310.zip

WurmClock now adds wind information to the info box:

    Other changes:

WurmClock now obtains its input data from the file "stats.xml", created by the Wurm server. The file "stats.html" is no longer supported.

WurmClock now automatically checks for program updates:

Cool! Thanks for the update - good job.

A minor issue: when there are more than 2 active harvest seasons the last line containing wind info is cut off at the bottom.

Could you go make an arrogant developer's thread where know-it-alls brag about how leet they are and how they are most qualified to decide what players really want.

I don't see any reason to be that rude, mate! (Doesn't help your point either...)

  6. Posting feature requests and pondering on what "the players" want (assuming those who posted here represent "the players") is perfectly OK. However, speculating on particular implementation aspects or stating confused theories ("Seems that game was fork of some famous 2d mmo( probably ultima online) ") doesn't help a bit. Unless we are experienced game developers ourselves we should refrain from giving our Wurm devs (who, for the most part, are unpaid volunteers, and are doing a great job) any advice on how to do their job.

And: Yes, true 3D would be cool! (But probably very hard to accomplish, as Wurm's basic concept is intrinsically 2D.)

  7. When I was brand new I got lost more than once, and the community map was no real help. I tried to spot the villages around me on the map, but none of them was there! :(

(That was on Inde though, but I'm sure it would be the same problem on any other server.)
