  1. Jaybudd, are you always this friendly? Yes, they were flattening. They also found a cart nearby with 40+ dirt in it and dumped it in the middle of the original house plans. In regards to your gate comments... explain why we have gates if not to lock them with a key. Why not do away with gates if that's the attitude? Why not just build houses everywhere if keys can just be picked up by enemies. Why do we have enemies anyway on a non-pvp server? Just doesn't make sense. Thanks to everyone else who posted supportive replies.
  2. We are a small group. Already about 5 of us in this local area... seems they were all hit. /hat-off to the GM's for going to my mates rescue though. My point is, this shouldn't be happening.
  3. Rant time.. beware. I get back from work and my buddy informs me that we've had a few griefers at our place. They trained a bear onto him, undermined his house which I'd just laid plans for, looted his body. Broke into my newly finished farm using the key they looted from him and made their way into my farmhouse (which I admit wasn't locked but was inside a fence), took a few things and started griefing my mate. The also caused some damage at a local settlement too. Enki apparently sorted it in the end. But what if... lots of what if's. If this server is indeed for newbies, and PvP and griefing aren't allowed put a big fat wall up stopping inter-server players mingling.. or... Stop letting players loot other bodies on GV. Stop letting players take from houses on which they're not on the writ for, regardless of their alignment. Don't let players under 21 digging skill dig near houses. Stop making me feel like my hours of work are going to waste simply because someone can come along and simply dig or bring a bear to me and take everything I own. Don't give me this crap about me being a carebear or anything.. I don't want to play on the PvP servers, otherwise I'd be there already. I can afford the subs, no problem, what I don't want is griefers. PvP may be some people's idea of fun, but I don't really enjoy it. Make GV peaceful. 100%. Please? A 7 day ban and they'll be back again when we're not looking. Guaranteed.
  4. Packed dirt (flat)

Exactly what Gate said, shows when you hit 15 skill in digging. I noticed the same thing when I had hit 15; strangely that was just after a patch so I thought it was new too!
  5. I wish that was true, I really do.
  6. Try visiting wurmonline.com (remove the www). With any luck your click happy admins have hard-entered the www host into their entry. WRT: This could get problematic, what ever will I do on my "formally allotted break periods after having responsibly completed all work" ? Maybe you should check your contract regarding personal use of the internet! =)
  7. Maybe it's time to update these pages where appropriate. http://wurmonline.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Helpful_players http://wurmonline.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Helpful_Golden_Valley_players
  8. From http://wurmonline.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page How do I get a wiki account? Contact a Game Master or a moderator, Eir is a very good person to contact via the forums for a wiki account. You can either contact them in-game, on IRC or in the forums. Please do not contact Rolf and Egal about Wiki accounts.
  9. Anyone who starts out at Glitterdale is more than welcome to drop me a PM in game if they need any advice or help. My IGN is Marni and my play-times are GMT evenings.
  10. Not taking anything away.... they still would have GV but they'd have a chance to check out the new server too... in the form of a temporary pass where their skills would be capped at 10. They can have a look at the content currently unavailable to them.. ships, stone houses... etc etc. It's alright seeing a screenshot of a ship... but I'd wanna see one first hand.
  11. I laugh at all those saying "why reward non-premiums". "This is a business." Non-premiums are potential customers... they are more likely to pay-to-play than someone who doesn't even play the game... they are the market. Real business strategy would be to give the non-paying customers a little more but not too much... enough to tempt them over to the paying customer side. A trial account on the new server would be an idea. 5 days free time where PM and trade are not possible, skill cap of 10, and then allowing them to upgrade if they find they enjoy it. I dunno.. I'm sure something could be done to reward everyone.
  12. Mini compass?

Looks like a glowstick to me :-)
  13. I've added the two calculators mentioned in this thread to the relevant wiki pages under External Tools at the bottom of each page. Edit: The OP's link isn't working now, so I'm in two minds about removing the link from the Wiki now. Are you going to get the FF link fixed or...? I'll remove the dead link from the Wiki in 24 hours if nothing's been said :-)
  14. Some have been mentioned, but I'm going to post up my list of 'how to survive' wurm. At least from my experiences. Never travel outside outside of where you are familar with during darkness. Know the time of day to ensure you can return before dusk. '/time' is a very handy command.. I must use it about 5 or 6 times per game session. If you are travelling through unknown wooded areas, even during day, always watch where you're going. Animals are normally obvious. Move your mouse around while you walk, so that your mouse hovers over everything in the area. If you see a nice red border, stop and recalculate your route. If you feel like you're going to die and there is no way of getting away the best thing to do is to look around for water or a house. I know it's probably not nice dying by someone's house, as they may inevitably have to deal with your follower, but if you can stay far enough away from it, but still see the name of it, you can always ask in local chat or in world chat if anyone knows the location of the building once you have respawned. If you head to water, most animals can be swam away from, therefore saving your life. Have a look at who's in Local chat. If there are a few people, make note of their names... if you have a general idea of where you died you can always head out until you see their names and bingo... your corpse shouldn't be far. I met a guy yesterday on his first day in Wurm. It was pitch black and he'd fallen into a house on the other side of the cove from me. I managed to save him, said our farewells and he ventured out into the black. After a chat he decided he wanted to come back and I agreed to help him out if he did some work for me. What amazed me was is that in the black of night he remembered the surroundings so well. He recognised the caves, the trees and the paths he had crossed some 30 minutes earlier. And he'd played for no more than a few hours! He found his way back to the house he ended up being stuck in and we met up. Take note of your environment at all times. I try to stick to coast lines when venturing out, then if I see a landmark, I always use it to guide myself back to where I started. It's no different to when you're out alone in a new city or town with no map. Use your instincts. Happy Wurming!
  15. This is true.. but I'd say that would only be ~10% of the map!
  16. ...and after those 3 weeks it's already out of date. Say our little area, north of Bottleneck on GV, the whole area is being teraformed and will look nothing like it did 3 weeks ago. I really applaud your effort, nice work and thanks for putting my home on the map!
  17. Maybe this is the reason for my inability to dig in an area which was once a road. Do the tiles still think they're paved once they've decayed? I ask because I have an area which used to be paved and it recently turned into grass. The tile is called grass, as are the other tiles in a 2-3 radius. I still get an error saying I can't dig pavements... presumably because I'm still <21 skill.
  18. /ignore works, surely? Oh and hi.. 1st post.
