  1. My guess would be that there's currently just no distinction between the two and maybe they want to keep it that way to keep a lower cost on server performance. But in the end your guess is as good as mine. If they were to separate wild vs domesticated. Probably the easiest thing to do is put branded and non-branded animals in a separate pool. But how many animals are branded on a deed since there's a limit based on the size. There are even many players holding a big pen outside of their deed to hold animals but keep their ratio up. Easiest thing of all to do would be to just increase the number of animals and decrease the chance of animals having an immortal trait for example. But this would have an effect on the required performance of the server. I'm sure they're already thinking about this in some way.
  2. Fair enough if that's the perspective this game takes. Other sandbox games such as for example minecraft took a different perspective creating an environment where content creators were able to create content on par with production level content and it was actually one of the main reasons that game blew up and is still relevant today despite it's blocky textures. Please have a look at shows like hermitcraft, weekly fully produced bite sized (20-30 minutes) video's portraying stories within an existing universe. In my opinion, things like that is what this game needs because no marketing budget can combat with something that people watch and follow willingly.
  3. Thank you for disclosing this, based on the amount of video's featuring wurm and the kinds of perspective shown in them I didn't think something like this was even possible or known to be possible. In that way this feature actually already exists but isn't used often or maybe there aren't many engaged content creators in wurm at this time.
  4. I already mentioned that i'm not a streamer, nor do I really need the ability to constantly have a different perspective. But it would be great for content creators to have something like that so they can have it easier to make high quality content within the game. I'm sorry if i offended you in some way
  5. That's quite amazing, i genuinely enjoyed your work! By no means do i want to disregard the work done by streamers at this time. I just thought that it would be great if things would be easier for them so there could be more good and engaging content around. All things are possible, certainly within a community that's very creative. But when making it easier to get somewhere it could result in more content like that coming out. Which would be beneficial to the game and also to people that do enjoy watching :p.
  6. I explained that i didn't mean dev made just because you brought it up and i wanted to clarify more. What I'd hope to find are video series like hermitcraft but in terms of wurm or "lets plays" but giving the viewer an actual view of what's happening. Because if you give a view of the action people are doing and then speed it up you don't see that much change. I mean, take the case of the construction of haven. Imagine that that was filmed from the perspective of the player, it would either be a stream on twitch but wouldn't be a video on demand. The part i meant about flying was not actually have people be superman or anything like that, the original thing i suggested was an account that can do these things but can't have an effect on the world, at all. So you'd be playing your regular character but be able to view it from a different account. The reason i brought up flying was because currently when people do something like that, they build very big towers or they make a large pile of dirt/rock just to be able to get somewhere close to the shot they want. Which video's did you find? I didn't mean that people would experience things differently. Only that creators would have the ability to show what they do in a better way. Don't think about someone flying over the server and getting everywhere quickly because it's not that. Think about someone mining on a mountain and using a different angle to show they're mining on a mountain instead of just fpv.
  7. Hello new player! I've been playing since this year as well. My suggestion isn't about dev-made content. I used video examples with dev-made content because currently they have the tools to make these. Neither would i want drastic differences for how things are in actual gameplay. I don't mean advertisements, just look up minecraft youtubers or other sandbox games where there is a free cam option. Things like big projects that take a long time aren't very engaging to watch from a pov perspective. There are very little people that will be excited about seeing someone surface mine for months on end. But seeing someone mine down a mountain or part of a mountain in the span of a few minutes with a timelapse, where the whole project is visible. That would be engaging and would hold the attention. The game is great and real fun, but there are many monotonous actions that don't render well on screen from first person perspective. To have engaging content a mix is needed between first person, third person and a different cam perspective. The slow play style wurm has is great and relaxing but it's not engaging for a viewer unless for background things.
  8. Thank you for the input! I'm not a streamer myself but it's great to hear that different angles are actually possible in game. This can give players more engaging content to watch. Anything that can help people make engaging content on a consistent basis for this game can bring in more interested players.
  9. Of course i realize the downsides of something like that when it's in the hands of people willing to abuse it. That's why I also mentioned that it wouldn't be a bad idea to get these things linked to a similar role as a GM. Just not the same as GM, people that are streamers don't need to be moderators, it's different functions that service the game with different tools and different responsibilities.
  10. The reason i mentioned "can move through walls/terrain" is not to have a view on locked area's. More like, imagine a party of people walking through a mineshaft, it would give a better view to have the camera sit inside the wall to give a wider perspective and make the visual bigger and feel less cramped for the viewer. For walls it's really not supposed to be a thing like "oh my neighbor locked his door, i want to go spy on their stuff". It's more for example when people stream storage wars, imagine a camera panning through the house, showing all the valuables and then going to a shot of the participants. Commentating on the discussions they're having and giving the viewer an extra glance to the items they're discussing, dynamic visuals. Most of this feature I more or less envisioned for professionals. Just imagine how nice it would be to have weekly engaging content within the universe of this game. How many people could get affected, see the fun the game can bring and have motivation to stick through the hard beginnings. In the end wurm online is a sandbox game. A sandbox game builds on the imagination of the player. Engaging video content can give a spark to that imagination for many players and players to come.
  11. Something like this would already be amazing.
  12. A streamer role should only be given to someone that produces content in a certain capacity, a professional. Think about at least a weekly 30 minute produced and edited video and enough engagement to get an income out it (example from other game: ) or people with good standing in the community (katspurr for example) or ideally both. Alternatively it could be asked of the game to just produce more content like that themselves but that doesn't really seem profitable. It's not creative mode, no changes can be made at all.
  13. I'm stating that it shouldn't be just given to players but that it should be a distinct role, just like there's a GM role and that role should be given to you by the wurmonline team. I don't think that a streamer should have a GM account but it would be good if they had an account where they could just watch and provide more valuable content in that way. Maybe i didn't make that clear.
  14. I agree that some things are meant to be unseen. It's not something that should be used to just go ahead and lurk on everyone their projects. More something to document your own projects and when given permission show off projects of others. The restrictions would be incredibly important here. Maybe for a regular account it could be that you can just get a higher view of the area where your character's at, because for example with my account I need to go to a pointy top to get a picture of my project. But for anything more than that I'm really thinking that it should be an appointed feature. In the same way that a GM has capabilities to act a Streamer role could have the ability to go around and just watch. The important part of note is that that's something that should be appointed to people within the community that can be trusted and that ideally are already streamers. Yes, what i'm suggesting isn't supposed to be used to act in bad faith and harass players. I'd love more content with a production value like this: Doesn't mean that people their privacy should be taken out or that for a detailed view on something the owner shouldn't be at least consulted and asked for permission.
  15. It would be nice if there was a possibility to have an account that: can fly fly through walls/terrain Can not in any way interact with the environment I'm aware that the potential for abuse is high in these things, certainly in pvp. I have a few idea's on how to lower that potential but first want to go in on why this would be a good feature. Currently it is quite hard for streamers or for players themselves to get a good view of something to capture it and share. With a cam account streamers/ youtubers could set up just the right angle to shoot and make a timelapse of a project for example. They could do showcases of people their deed as there are now already guided tours, just with better images. An easier time in making good, engaging video content of the game allows for more people to get engaged with the game and start playing. Also an easier time in documenting the building process of a deed, all information like this gives accurate representation of what the game is and can actually make people excited to play. And for the players themselves, you can get a better history of your area, more beautiful screenshots, ... So that's the benefit. The downside is that people could easily use it to find all fallen deeds, all uniques,... On pvp, find all kinds of access to a deed and study the best way to get in without anybody even being able to stop you. Some of the idea's I bring up are based on all characters (including the cam account) being linked to each other, it was mentioned that the game would implement this. Link the cam account with 1 character linked to the player and make it so that the cam can't be placed more than X tiles away from that player. Hold detailed logs of cam accounts (log the exact location on the server, the direction the cam is looking in) , making it easy to determine people used it for scanning. When tied to the other accounts. Let the cam be a feature that's given to players with good standing in a similar way as CM's and GM's are appointed but less strict
  16. Making a 17x11 rectangle of farmland in the hills, almost 4 months of surface mining and leveling and nearly there!
  17. Did you already try using custom in your graphics settings? I think there's some more options there for render distance but i'd have to check to make sure.
  18. Fair enough. It's something many players do though. When playing I generally play 3 characters at the same time. Wurm is a wonderful game but it does require a lot of time, so using more characters can allow me to do more in less time.
  19. The point is that you can be afk for some periods. Imagine that you're playing multiple alts at the same time, with 2 you're doing something on your deed and with the third you're visiting someone on the other side of the map. If the travel can happen without constant intervention you can enjoy a nice view of the lands of wurm while doing some grinding tasks. Or you can play one character and go get a coffee or a tea and come back. You could watch a tv-show on the side and occasionally look over just as if you're a passenger in a car. You're active in chat, either freedom chat, alliance chat, PM's, trade,... you can just do so without bumping into something or stopping in the middle of the road. It's not about quickly getting from A to B, it's just something to make the existing travels more pleasurable. Like you said before, having to press left-right-left in a passage with short ends can be annoying, it's actually just for things like that. Not for being completely afk because you could still have to fight something or you could still encounter something you like. At this point I honestly do question if you even understand what the proposed feature (option 2) is. It's basically just a mix of 2 already existing features. Auto-walk: When you ride a horse, a cart, a wagon, go on foot,... you can press "x" for auto-walk. At that point you keep moving forward on foot until you get stuck against something or fall of something and die, for the other means until you get stuck somewhere or until you encounter a slope too big to traverse. Find-route: When you right click on a waystone you have the option to use "find route" this will show you a dialog and give you directions to the deed you requested. These directions are shown on all waystones you cross, highlighting the direction you should go. The only thing this proposed feature would do is when you have found a route with this system and you press "x" you won't just run off a cliff or get stuck somewhere but you'll follow the road you selected on the highway. So, you still invest time and possession, everything is exactly the same as it's at this moment. The only difference is that you don't have to press left or right anymore. You still can do so, you still have the fun of seeing the world of wurm, you still get the same time constraints causing it to not be OP, you still have the exact same bonuses from your investment in your gear and vehicles.
  20. That would be too much in my opinion. If we're honest, the scouting thing is a non-issue and anything used to circumvent it is worsening the experience for all other players. Because limited visibility means that you'll make a ride of an hour and see basically nothing of the world around you, at that point there's not that much difference with an hour long static loading screen.
  21. As a newer player i'd say that the slow skilling in wurm actually makes leveling up a lot more rewarding. Make the challenge too general and you'll take out the rewarding feeling you get after a grind and sooner get to the point where there's no real joy in playing anymore because things just go like that.
  22. The numbers i used were guesstimates based on the speeds i see mentioned when using these mounts/vehicles. The way it's described it wouldn't be a slower way of travel, you'd just use the vehicle/mount you already have, use the find route feature of the highway and then press auto-walk. Only difference to auto-walk now would be that you turn when the route asks you to turn.
  23. You mentioned that it's not possible, whether it's used or not is irrelevant to that argument. Even if there's not a single other player online i can go to the store, buy a farwalker twig, use it on a tree near the location i want, teleport home and voila... Completely independent travel. If you walk the insanity path you don't even necesarily need to walk the distance and could teleport there (if you're lucky 😛 ). That's possible in game yeah, but that would use another player's time and would also be rather inconvenient in terms of waiting time since that other player would have to travel to wherever you are first and then go somewhere else. At some point i did think of providing a kinda taxi service getting farwalker twigs, activating them at requested locations and then trading them or putting them on a merchant. But it's a lot of effort and a lot of investment. 😛 If you just press the key without supervision a lot can happen as well. It's not like you couldn't just randomly get attacked by multiple monsters, certainly when travelling large distances. The outcome is either: "you arrive at your destination" or "You died" or even "The effective quality of your vehicle falls below the required quality for travel so you're just dead in the water". I don't really understand why you bring up the limit of 100 items in inventory. If that's too little you have backpack for an extra 100, then i also think you can fill your inventory with (100- your non-drop items) backpacks and fill all of those backpacks with satchels. That can hold 100 cotton each, so just based on those limitations and without keeping mind of volume you could in theory hold at least 1 million cotton. So you're not really limited by that amount, however you are limited by the weight, at 100 body strength you could carry a weight of 700, so that's the maximum amount of cotton you could hold in inventory. And i know that picking seeds on a group of items is done at once. That's not the point I was arguing. You're in theory able to click every cotton individually and use pick seed there. Because that granular action is there, there is the possibility to see the stack operation as an automation of the individual action. Just a matter of perspective. Personally i'd rather use automation for something that functions without the action of a player whatsoever, like ... adding a function to spirit templars so they can tend the field or milk the cows or fill up water and food in the chicken coop,... Because either all actions before mentioned are automation, including auto walk since it's in the name "auto walk" or none of them are and that term is reserved for things that actually take out the need for any player intervention and without the need for the player to even set a process in motion that ends. Yes, i haven't mentioned something opposing that anywhere. I don't think it's easy to abuse. The concern you mentioned about scouting is something i'm not really concerned about because there are already ways for wrongdoers to do such things. They could even just sail across the shores with their spyglass and have massive amounts of information just as well. It's even easier there because they just need to sail in 1 direction and look into one direction and they're able to see the whole shoreline. Remember that the option mentioned is tied to the highway system. On your question why a priest can't summon you somewhere else... You'd have to ask the devs why they implemented it like that but a few guesses: Because it's the most logical, when you speak of summoning someone you generally think about summoning them to where you are. Because otherwise they'd have to create a separate window and ui just to pick a location, it would have been more work Yes, you still need those items to do that. I was referring to your concern about abuse, abusers don't care about the tos when they can circumvent them so abusers are likely to use bots and in that regard they are already able to just scan for uniques and all that which is the worry that you keep bringing up. Personally I prefer the auto-walk system over a teleportation system because it feels more natural to the game and you can still see the world of wurm. Too much teleportation can make the world feel small, the auto travel feature wouldn't make the world feel smaller, it would just give more QOL while travelling. Personally I don't see any possible abuse that isn't already possible right now to those that are willing to break the rules. I was referring to your worry about people scouting. Even if someone put up auto-travel and just travelled up and down a route to check for uniques, that wouldn't be against tos. My numbers were guesstimates based on the speed mentioned while travelling with different mediums. However they still point out the point I was making, namely that the vehicles and mounts didn't just become decoration and are still relevant. The speed of your vehicle is still relevant even if you don't press left/right yourself. Again, the auto-travel feature mentioned is linked to the find route feature on highways. Only possible on highways, so it's not from anywhere to anywhere. You'd still travel for 20-40+ minutes, there's no difference in that part. It doesn't kill the need for mounts and vehicles inland because even when afk people have a benefit from getting there sooner than later. Because they either want to do things at their location earlier or want to close the game off and head to bed to get ready for the rift in the morning,... If you had an autonomous car that could drive you, you'd still care about the speed at which it can drive you because you'd like to limit the time you're constrained and can't do much. I don't really get how you're mixing the need for mounts with the travel feature. Boats can be pretty quick, certainly if you have multiple people on board. They have value, there's a reason people pay good silver for them. 😛 Too relaxed would be having bots playing the game for you while you're taking a break for example. Too relaxed would be a portal system that you could put on the ground and ride with your wagon or horse or boat through it, too relaxed would make the game boring. The transportation method presented here shouldn't have an extra cost or speed cost. The player pays the cost already regardless of whether they press the left/right button themselves or not, their character can't do much for the duration of the travel. I don't see how it would affect current markets because i don't really see a taxi service being that viable.
