In any third party program, I believe asking the permission from the person is the best because they might not expect any third party programs that are sharing info in public. Don't know what they will think after they find out. Third party programs ain't compulsive to sign up to play wurm, don't expect people to use it. Some might consider third party programs are some kind of cheating tools and they refuse to give any attention to them. I believe that's why the third party map owner set up a DO NOT POST DEEDS THAT AREN'T YOURS OR HAVE APPROVAL TO POST BY MAYOR rule to forbid players from sharing what they discovered. That is one of the great part of not showing deed on the third party map, that give people an opportunity to start conversation on server chat or whatever communication platform and become more socialize on a MMO. That is what the exploration update are for. Maybe someone who will nice enough to guide u to the destination or simply teleport u if they have a priest in-game. Instead of just looking on a third party map and figure the location out by urself.

Let me elaborate. No spoiler for the kids no matter they like it(discover the mystery by themself) or not(who asked CA Help). Doesn't matter there are more people who asked CA Help(not enjoy) than the people want to discover it by themself(enjoy) or not because all kids should not get the spoiler. It sounds a bit harsh to the kids but ya. It fix the problem to keep answer the same frequent question in a different way. Got to learn it by urself, kids. Maybe only give u some hints if it's too hard. Well, some people consider hints as spoilers as well.

Not on the map but on the forum. I mean i am openly in-game but hermit on third party map. I simply ask the forum monitor to delete the deed info on forum if i see that. I am concerning what the hermit in both people would think. Might have to agree what Gingeko said, they might have to reconsider is this game still good for them.

I can't speak for Tukodama, but Don't even have fences to block people to have a tour. The problem is the harm to the community which caused by the Opt-out policy more than the Opt-in IMO. I didn't choose cadence because of Opt-in policy at first. But i stay here one of the reason is because it is the only one Opt-in policy in the entire NFI.

There is a mechanism in the actual map that once you have opted out, your deed is marked so that it is not added by accident in the future. The problem isn't ur deed gets re-added to the map because the program have a list to avoid adding ur deed on map. The real problem is, Opt-out rule increase the chance to see ur deed name and coordinate post on forum because other people don't aware ur deed is on the list to stop posting ur deed info on forum. Unless the program also directly monitor the forum post, otherwise the deed owner or forum monitor have to monitor the forum whether ur deed info are added on forum or not. That would increase people workload. For example, request the forum monitor to delete the posts which have ur deed info. Not on the map but on the forum. Ur privacy of deed name and coordinate get revealed on the forum more likely. Instead Opt-in rule have a less chance that other people post ur deed name and coordinate on forum because people can only post the deed they owned. Because of the community is what matter most. Provide an opportunity to talk to others with care about what the people actually think no matter the people agree to appear on a forum/third party map or not. Opt-in is the choice.

Now we are playing a guessing game of why the decent word is put in the first place instead of using 30ql.😄 May i have the answer from the creator🤔. I want a shortcut this time too.

Pristine, Release, Xanadu, and Independence are also Opt-in policy. Not sure about Celebration and Exodus, but i believe they lean towards Opt-in too. Only Deliverance have a firm Opt-out policy.

Someone can have fun to play a puzzle game, depends on how the person feel about it. I didn't find it fun to sacrifice different QL of items to solve the puzzle, that's why i asked the CA help for shortcut. But i can't deny someone may find it fun. It's just a simple guessing game even have a prize from the mission.

I think everyone can participate, maybe someone consider to be a cadence resident one day, participate as an investment for the future. Maybe people just want to see wurm to have more variety in a sandbox game. If cadence turn into Opt-out, there will be only Opt-out policy in the entire NFI community unlike the SFI community map are mostly Opt-in policy except Deliverance i believe. Maybe people want to create a better environment for themself no matter they believe in Opt-in or Opt-out. But the current cadence residents should be considered the most. Anyway, it's just for reference. Anyone can participate.

Have to admit i asked what decent is on the CA Help when i was a newbie, simply just want a shortcut. But can see someone see the word "decent" as a fun unsolved puzzle game. They can have fun to find out what decent actually mean by trying to sacrifice different QL of items to solve the puzzle by themself.

Yes, connecting highway system give people a signal u are also opening urself to a certain amount of discovery, but some people are clueless about connect to highway also mean connect to a third party map which people would spot their location more easier than only connect to highway without put onto a third party map. Some people only agree to expect to open themself to a certain amount of discovery, but not expected to open themself to a large amount of discovery through a third party program when they connect to highway. Would suggest to add a note under the Mark this if want ur village to show in the find route village list, Note: Connecting to highway create a chance to reveal ur deed location on a third party community map. This would make the clueless people aware of it. It's responsible to let the mayor aware. To show u care about what the players are thinking. This is what Opt-in is for. And this note also create an advertisement for newbies to increase number of deeds shown on third party map. Encourage them to be a part of the community map by targeting the one who are more open to public. I agree Opt-out map would help the community to find treasure maps easier and faster, i like the benefit too. However, I don't agree it doesn't hurt that other people make decision for u without concerning what u think. Especially the people who is clueless about a third party map and stay silence or refuse to have any attentions to an unofficial program. OP, there is another Opt-nothing suggestion for u to be aware. I don't think people are expected to hide their deed in-game since this is a MMO but might not expected to show their deed name on a third party map. And we are talking about hiding name on third party map, not hiding in-game. I believe a team player need to show respect to others by showing u care about what other player think in order to have a better community as a whole. Doesn't need to agree people's thoughts, but do need to care about what they are thinking. Well, as a Opt-in supporter, I am complaining that u complain about things that Opt-in is better the community as a whole. This kind of statement isn't help to make a better community as a whole. This is a demonstration to show people try not to do what i did next time. Instead Opt-out provide an opportunity to make decision for others without care about what the people actually think no matter the people agree to appear on a third party map or not.

That means the the Community Map is a third party program which separate from the official game of Wurm. Any Opt-out rule involved mean people can making decision for other people without concerning what the people actually think no matter the people agree to appear on a third party map or not. Is it possible that everyone on highway also want to be on a third party map? Group A want to connect to highway also aware it means to agree to appear on a third party map. Act as an Opt-in rule to upload their deed. Group B want to connect to highway but clueless about it also means to agree to appear on a third party map or not. Act as an Opt-out rule to upload their deed That means people can make decision to upload the connected highway system deed for others act as Opt-out rule because u are not concerning whether the mayors aware the connection to the highway also mean to agree to appear on a third party map or not, unless there is a name list to distinguish who belongs to Group A and Group B.

But I respect the right to stay silence or refuse to give any attentions to a third party program and the people(e.g. newbie) who are the clueless about the right to make their deed name private or not. So i choose Opt-in in final. Also, some people consider the benefits are some kind of cheating because they are only sign up for wurm, but not sign up for a third party program to play wurm.

I know, i was just saying about if the sentence change to: if you are clueless about the community map, is it honestly fair for you to use my deed location and not allow me to use yours? It's very easy to hide ur deed name on a third party map. Just vote Opt-in. I don't think people are expected to hide their deed in-game since this is a MMO but might not expected to show their deed name on a third party map. Opt-in and Opt-out map both provide an option for the deed owner to choose whether they want to appear on a third party map or not. This is the similarity, the deed owner can choose to be private or public on the third party map. The discussion should be focused on the differences between Opt-in and Opt-out. Which is, Who got the right to put my deed name appear on a third party map. The Opt-out supporter should say everyone have the right and the deed owner have the final right because of... 1)The final right to private their deed on third party map are still depend on the owner(Counter: How can u make sure that every owners aware they have the final right? Cannot expect every owners to check it because it's a third party map, they have the right to stay silence or refuse to give any attentions to a third party program that people didn't sign it up to play wurm) 2)The Opt-in map would probably be look emptier than an Opt-out map(Counter: The in-game map are more emptier, the map like that are compulsory when people sign up to play wurm. And they didn't sign up for a third party map and it's an option, There is no compulsory to have a deed names everywhere map. IDK maybe some people consider a third party map to track every deeds is some kind of cheating? even though the wurm team allows it. 3)Treasure hunt finding easier and faster. 4)Increase the amount of people to raid a disbanded deed before the friends of the owner come to save the deed because it increases the amount of people to find and raid a deed more easier and faster. Increase the efficiency to raid people to punish the disbanded deed owner for not putting wurm on the first priority. The Opt-in supporter should say only the deed owner have the right because of... A)People should not expect people to check third party map because when u press M in-game, the third party maps are not showing. The third party maps are not build in-game. They did't sign up for that. Because of this, there is a chance the deed owner are clueless about the right to make their deed name private or not on third party map. B)People cannot post a deed name on a third party map without the consent of the deed owner. C)Some people stay on cadence because of the Opt-in rule, No other way to migrate to other PVE NFI because they are all Opt-out rule. Guess the only way is to restart on SFI Independence, Pristine, Release, Xanadu, not sure about Celebration and Exodus(guess towards Opt-in too? unlike the clear rule of Deliverance). Provide variety in wurm, an Opt-in map option for NFI people to choose in a sandbox game. D)Reduce the amount of work of either the third party map owner or the deed owners. They might need to input the deed names to check whether the deed want to be private by compare on a toggle-off list. IDK how Opt-out map work, but if the the third party map owner don't check the toggle-off list, then the deed owner have to keep track their deed name pop up on the map or not. This increase the workload of the deed owners who want to be private on the third party map instead. I obviously didn't stay silence, but there are people who choose to stay silence or refuse to give any attentions to a third party program that isn't compulsive to sign up to play wurm. And they have the right to do that. I like the benefit of a Opt-out map. But I respect the right to stay silence or refuse to give any attentions to a third party program and the people who are the clueless about the right to make their deed name private or not. So i choose Opt-in in final.

I think we need to define what is public and what is private in different situations. There is no hiding in-game. But there is hiding name in third party map which makes it as private. What private mean in the third party map is DO NOT POST DEEDS THAT AREN'T YOURS OR HAVE APPROVAL TO POST BY MAYOR. The deed name on the third party map can be private because there is rule to forbidden people to add someone deeds to the third party map without permission. We are focusing on talking about the privacy on a third party map, not in-game. This whole discussion is about a third party map.

It's a conscious choice, to link to highway by the mayor of the deed to join the public, to not link to highway for privacy. Similar idea to Opt-in. This is quite good. But idk if people only want to be public ingame but expect not to be on a third party map? Maybe they only want to be found from highway but not from map. Showing on highway, hiding on map?

Imagine u expect people are respecting ur private info for 10 years. One day u discover ur private info wasn't private at all, it was showing on the third party program for 10 years that u didn't sign up. Does it hurt u then? Imagine u expect ur card number stay private and secured for 10 years. One day u discover ur card number were showing on the net for 10 years and people were stealing ur money that u didn't notice because u didn't check it. It won't hurt u if u don't check it because u are not aware of it. But one day u discover it, i guess it hurts? Lost faith in people? There is always a chance to discover it one day. The map dump is official without deed names. The third party program isn't official and may have deed names. A deed name might show who were living there. A third party program is an option. A map dump is compulsory because when u press the play button people just need to deal with whatever the team are dropping. I don't think there are any agreements to sign that people must use third party program to play wurm, when they press the play button. So people should not expect every wurm people to check the third party map. Hope people can see the problems and differences.

In fact I have found some wonderful areas on Cadence that I WON'T be identifying to put on a map, simply because IMO they are better as discoveries not destinations. then you and those other people can opt out, to stop it from ever appearing. People who keep checking the map can opt out. However, people who don't check third party program would not stop their deed from ever appearing because they didn't even notice that. A third party program is an option. It's not a compulsory to play wurm. I don't think there is any agreements to sign that people must use third party program to play wurm, when they press the play button. So people should not expect every wurm people to check the third party map.

Oh i didn't realize different servers have different policy, i thought every maps are opt-in. I think this is a great opportunity to re-examine the opt-in policy since there was a new exploration update recently which relate to mapping. And i know opt-out make treasure hunt finding easier and faster. I wonder why people vote opt-in at first for cadence. Is it because of this post Explorer's Guild - Cadence Map? Who made the policy in the first place? Personally i vote No for "No, leave me alone, I am not to be found on third party map, for now," My deed is kind of ready for people to spot it by normal travelling like walking or sailing. But not ready for people to spot it on third party map. And idk what people would think if their deed appear on a third party map without noticing that.

Love the dramas not only happen on NFI but also drag the SFI to get involved. Even if the GL chat are separated, the mechanic are still the same on both clusters. Guess they are somehow linked. Popcorn for SFI too made by the popcorn machine from NFI 👉👈😳. Good popcorn should be shared to everyone. Sharing is caring🤭. Could we eat popcorn together and hold hands?😊

Not OP but this sounds a bit uncharitable to OP, who has (IMHO) good points and decent suggestions. If you know better ways the mechanic could be changed, it would be more helpful to offer those, rather than mock other’s suggestions. My comments are not trying to determine whether OP made good points and decent suggestions about why should get rid of alts. They are trying to discuss how to get rid of alts as this is OP's goal. I was pointing out the possible difficulties to get rid of alts, hopefully OP's can offer people a way to fulfill the goal. Maybe OP should run the game which others find it difficult to do? If OP somehow makes the current gaming mechanic fit people's goals, people will not use any alts even there is an option to use an alt. Can see bunch of situations are waiting OP to solve under the no alt theory. And dealing with large amount of work is one of the possible difficulty. The other possible difficulty is how to make the game mechanic change actually happen. Also, hard to get rid of alts doesn't mean people shouldn't talk about why should get rid of alts. I mean OP are trying to convince people to think how to get rid of alts by saying why should get rid of alts. But I am more interested on how.
