  1. Dominate doesn't last very long anymore. A lot of times creatures will go untame in about a day of sitting around. If the creature gets hurt, it loses its loyalty more quickly.
  2. Getting: <An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host> Last time I had this was... several years ago. The server would boot random people off, then not let them log back in; though, for some reason, other people would be able to log into their accounts for them. Was really fun in PvP. I hope we get free sleep bonus. I loves free sleep bonus. \o/
  3. I had "Become an Archmage" and "Imp an item past 99ql". The first actually seems more reasonable...
  4. I also can't log into Chaos.
  5. I've seen several Fosters commercials here in the states, and they assure me that "Fosters is Australian for beer." What do you have to say to that, Emoo?
  6. Well... if you want to keep it, keep it. If you want to return it to its owner, then use kingdom chat. But if it has no gear and it's not branded, you can't really stop someone from just saying it's theirs, can you, lol.
  7. Yesterday, a friend told me about how they got 19 crops from a single tile, then 5 from the next. I assume the 19 crops was the result of a rare action. This seems... wrong. Very wrong.

  9. My main problem One of my problems with the opposition is that they seem to believe that traders are the only way to be self sufficient in Wurm. People get away with not paying their premium through a whole variety of ways. I've seen crafters reach 5+ gold without needing to buy a silver of it from the store. So, what? Shall we tax all trades as well? Should players no longer be able to sell their items, because they might use the currency they earned to pay for the game? As I see it, we should remove all trading in general. 20 silver going to someone for selling an item... that's just ridiculous. Why, had they needed to buy that silver, Rolf could be 20 euros richer! Anyway, people also seem to be missing the point. Rolf added the ability to buy premium with silver recently, within the last few years. It wasn't always there. You claim that Rolf loses tons of money by people paying silver for their premium, but the very fact of the matter is that he added this feature for a reason. 10 silver a month for premium, translated by shop prices, is 10e a month. That's twice the cost of just buying it from the store. You seem to think that Rolf has missed some vital flaw in his system, but in fact, the opposite is true. Buying premium through the token is a money sink. It's meant to help work silver out of the economy, while not crashing it entirely, and all the while adding a useful mechanism for players that would otherwise not be able to play the game. Whenever you vanquish 10 silver to the void, you're paying Rolf in an indirect way. This is why he made the feature. All you need is the foresight to see how it works.
  10. Right... so, sadly, I made a post in this thread a day or so ago, and I don't believe it ever actually made it into the thread. My connection was kind of iffy at the time. Mainly I was pointing out the huge flaws in Protunia's post on the first page, in which he made the (preposterous) suggestion that a 60% increase in the value of the silver will result in 60% increased profits for people who own traders. To summarize, a 60% increase in price almost NEVER translates to a 60% increase in profits. This is why your local baker can't jack up the prices of his bread by 60% and expect to retire early. This is why we have economists that draw graphs to find that optimum selling price of a particular good. As the prices increase, the number of people interested in purchasing the item decreases. If you're not careful, you will surpass a certain threshold and see tremendous losses. This is why you don't see many $100 hotdogs for sale. The trader system is dependent on players purchasing and spending silver. If there is less silver being spent- especially on deeds- then traders yield diminishing returns.
  11. Rags were useful for grinding first aid
  12. And I expect your attacks to be based purely on envy, and an inability to understand a system far too complicated for you to spend time learning. Now that assumptions are out of the way... How do you not see this as a problem? You are proposing that all the players in the game that want to have a large deed, a very fun and fulfilling part of Wurm, should spend massive amounts of their income to support it. Wurm is an extremely expensive game- if you want to spend 100e a month on Wurm, more power to you. Most people do not. Most people don't have that kind of money. You are making an argument that appeals, strictly, and in fact despicably, to the small portion of players that are willing to put that sort of money down on Wurm. We would NOT gain more money by removing trader drain. All you would do is force certain players to get less. By removing a primary force in the Wurm economy, you would hamstring the very "common player" you claim to protect. If anyone here is "elite", it's you. Frankly, it's unbearably offensive. Please take a course on economics. This is the heart of the capitalism. I won't even try to explain this to you, but I will tell you this: the poor gain money through the rich's spending. You claim that trader drainers impoverish those who do not own traders, but this is either a blatant lie, or astonishing myopia on your part. The money that they gain goes back to the players that spent it in the first place. Without it, you would be FORCED to buy all of your money from the Wurm Shop. After reading your posts, all I can think is that you are upset that others are spending less and being more successful. By your logic, we could easily remove other things to make Wurm a more "stable financial platform". Why not make transmutation rods the only way to get ore veins? Surely, if players wish to have ore, they might as well buy the silver necessary from the shop, and promote Wurm's financial stability. Why not make it impossible to trade silver? This way, the money can more quickly leave the system, by being spent only on objects that- under your system- would be nonrefundable in anyway? Yes, I can certainly see how this mode of play would benefit the "fair Wurm player", who buys all their silver form the shop, and is willing to take out loans to maintain their Wurm deeds.
  13. The same way any American would giggle about not having to pay for healthcare, and about college students from the UK rioting about 9,000 pound tuition, lol.
  14. I'm kind of surprised that Pay Pal doesn't have a function for this, seeing as trade between the entire European Union and the rest of the world is not at all uncommon, lol. Maybe we'll see a solution in the future. There is something... strange, about the idea that I will be paying into the Swedish tax pool when I buy Wurm premium.
  15. I like your war chant and all, but the "common sense" you're speaking of lacks numbers. Allow me to explain my "common sense", from the perspective of one without a trader to train. Traders get money equal to a portion of money spent on traders, money spent on deeds, and money lost through the draining of deeds. This money doesn't appear from nowhere- it comes from the player base in one form or another. People who know how to properly manage their traders (it's a skill, but not one that's overly hard to learn), can increase the ratio of silver the trader gets from the kingdom's coffers. Having a properly managed trader on a server where no one knows how to properly manage traders can gain you a great sum of wealth, because your trader is getting all the money (up to 40 silver before it caps? That might be it.), and all the other traders get squat. So yes; a player who can handle a trader can gain money from it, and can use this money to manage his deeds, pay for his premium time, buy new items, etc. Is it unfair? Not really. The 50 silver investment takes sometime to get back, especially if you don't know what you're doing, and some silver MUST be put into the trader to increase your ratio. Furthermore, it's not as if only a certain few players can own a trader- anyone can buy one, and place it, and make money off it, assuming they have the accommodations to do so. Now, this benefits the Wurm economy more than it harms it. It helps regulate the total amount of gold in circulation, because every bit of silver spent on deeds (even if recycled through traders) eventually leaves the server. Recycling money through traders helps keep money on the server. If we could not drain traders, money would leave the game at a ridiculous rate, because the only way to get money would be to buy it from the shop. If hundreds of gold is being spent every month, than within a few years, the entire economy would be depleted. The amount of money players would need to poor into the game would be ridiculous, especially if they planned on maintaining large deeds. Removing trader drains is almost synonymous to removing the option to hold massive deeds if you are not a player with an extremely large expendable income. Oh, and I really don't see how they're profiting at "other player's expenses". Draining traders doesn't harm other players, especially if the other players had no intention to get the money back in the first place. Furthermore, the money drained from traders doesn't explicitly go into upkeep. Much of it is likely spent on buying player made goods, and paying players for services. This means that those players, who would never have gotten any of their money back in the first place, are actually receiving money through in game means that would otherwise not exist. I'm sorry, but your argument seems far too much like "sour grapes".
  16. Hmm... I hope this is successful. The VAT kind of confuses me, to be honest. The system doesn't tax sales; it taxes objects being sold. So, for example, an item being sold for 5 euro's at 25% VAT cost a customer 6.25e. Sellers, then, can somehow charge the person 6.25e, and it's not as if they're selling it for 6.25. They're selling it for 5e, and charging 1.25e extra for VAT. Or, at least, that's how all the examples I looked up presented it. With sales tax, you would have to raise it higher than 6.25e to make up the loss (since it goes up based on the price you increase it to). On that note, it seems like the game is being raised to 6.4e/month (1.4e of which will be direct profit), and then the other 25% of the 6.4 would go into VAT. Anyway... if Rolf wasn't being taxed for VAT, an increase of 60% would allow him to lose 37.5% of his player base and still make the same amount of money he was before off of premium. This is kind of optimistic, seeing that, if here were to lose even 20% of the playing populous, much of the games silver/deed revenue would be depleted. Now, that 37.5% would only be if Rolf was not being taxed at all... which of course, isn't the case. The price is raising to 8 euros, but he's only making a new profit of 1.4e (once again, assuming I have this whole VAT thing right...), which is a total increase of 28% in profits. Because of this, if 17.5% of the Wurm population were to quit, Rolf would actually be making less from premium than he did before; and yes- this is an optimistic projection, since it does not take into account the total amount of silver bought from said players, how many deeds will be disbanded due to the increase in silver price, and the waning use of certain money sinks. What's worse is that, in fact, it's not just 17.5% of players that have to quit, but 17.5% of premium accounts that have to be withdrawn. If 1 in five players had an alt (I think it's more than that, realistically), and if just half of them all dropped one alt, it would be a total decrease in player population of 8.33~%. That's quite a lot. (Someone check my math: 1 in 5 players has an alt. 6 players total. 1/6 = 16.66%/2.) So yea, I think this is a very tricky situation, and I hope it works out for the best of Wurm. Rolf has accountants, I've heard, so I won't doubt his choices here.
  17. Yea, definitely need an 8th 4km x 4km Freedom server... If he's increasing the cost of silver, than the player sold Gold Coin will increase in value too. Though, if Rolf does this, I would sincerely hope that he also chooses to lower the value of all items in game to reflect the increase in price. 5 euros for a farwalker twig is already ridiculous, in a since (even if you can draw 2.5 of it back, or whatever the ratio is now).
  18. Depends. I don't agree with you about archery not having uses- I've gotten countless kills with it, and I think any long-time pvper with half decent archery can attest to the same. I've also found it remarkably useful for killing greenish lava spiders, but other than that, it does have limited uses in PvE. I could see having these birds, but they'd have to be relatively squishy. If they could just take an arrow and fly off out of your range, it would be kind of silly. Besides that, even if an creature is "flying" in Wurm, it can't pass walls. GM's will ram into low stones walls while cruising over Wurm, for example. So there's some technical issues. Otherwise, I'm not opposed to variety in creature type.
  19. I would guess that player sold items are not going to change in value until the effects become apparent to sellers.
  20. Wow, a 60% increase in premium cost? That's pretty drastic. Time to stock up...
  21. I do mean fences. Also, has anyone checked this for wooden fences/palisades/etc?
  22. How the hell did 32 bit Java get installed again... I removed it and installed 64 bit a while ago. It must have switched back during system restore or something. Thanks for pointing that out. Well, I won't go back to Java 6. Hopefully there will be a fix eventually. Anyway, I'll deal with it until then.
  23. Recently I've been getting sudden, unpredictable crashes. They occur randomly, but almost always when I'm trying to perform some sort of action. Common ones seem to be embarking a horse/boat/cart/etc, or taking screenshots. Wurm starts at about 400 mb of ram usage, and gradually works its way up to around 1.2gb. When I get to the 1.2gb area, I get unreasonable spikes of lag (despite having 16gb of RAM in total), and I need to restart. Simply relogging into my character from a fresh client fixes the problem (temperorarily), resetting the RAM usage to 400mb. It's not much of a nusiance, since it takes several hours to get to the point where I need to restart, but it's still a problem.
