Frist off I don't think this thread is the place to object/complain/suggest about AH. I thought folks here where just discussing how breeding works.

Take a look at the topic, and then reread my post. Asking why a 4-trait draft animal is faster than an objectively bigger and stronger 5-trait draft animal seems pertinent to the topic to me.

In order to breed draft/speed mules you first need donkey AND horses. How can you not see that needing to breed two different animals up and maintaining that breeding stock is more work? I guess I can agree that the effort to do a single breed action with a horse and donkey is the same as horse and horse. But we simply can't discredit the work to get the point where one can breed the donkey and horse. Also, don't discredit the extra deed space to support donkey, horse and mules.

I just grabbed some donkeys from the steppes and keep breeding them with my 4draft mares, which more often than not gets me 3 or 4-draft mules. It really couldn't be easier imo.

If Wurm makes mules and horses the same, then buyers will almost always want horses. Horses can be breed (the buyer can make more) and as you point out they look better.

Yes, and how is that a bad thing? Horses allow for more variety, which is generally regarded as a good thing. Once people wise up to the fact that mules are some 25% faster than horses, this variety will slowly diminish. There was already lots of discussion about the 3% speed increase of ebony horses killing variety, and now they add a rather ugly animal and give it a 25% bonus? Makes no sense to me.

It seems to me your using straw-man to try and justify your real problem - Mules (the mechanically optimal animal) are the best animals but they are ugly and boring looking. Plus, in real life they are by no means better than a pure bread horse.

You are using that word wrong. If you think otherwise please show me where I misrepresented facts to suit my argument.

I personally don't care what the animals look like. Frankly, I'd be ecstatic if we could craft a big rolling ball that gets hitched to vehicles to pull them around.

I applaud your verbosity, given that you don't even care about the topic.

The rare draft traits don't add to base speed, so there's the explanation.

I assure you most people still prefer horses (or hell horses or bison), so the addition of mules has actually been well thought out and implemented by the devs.

When normal draft traits add speed, but the (really) rare traits do not, I return to my original question: Is this intended?
I must be surrounded by more min-maxers than you. Everyone gladly takes the mules off me to upgrade from bison/horses.

While I have no idea what's intended, I can make a couple of observations.

    1. Mules take more work and in general Wurm makes more difficult things functionally better then easier alternatives.

    2. (Conspiracy mind you) Wurm breeders have off and on asked for a gelding feature, most likely to preserve their income, and now mules in a way provide this.

I appreciate the answer but I am not sure I agree with your observations.
I breed mules and I do not see how they take more work than horses. Definitely not in the long run.
Breeders could still sell sterile mules if they were just as fast as horses.

But a 4 draft trait mule without a rare trait being faster than a 5 draft trait horse with a rare trait, that seems weirdly balanced to me.
Imagine showing someone all your beautiful and strong ebony, blood bay and appaloosa draft horses and then telling them "But we don't use these, our real champs are over there" and then you point at the tiny mules who all share the same grey texture. They would think you are joking, wouldn't they? That is how I feel about the situation.

  4. I too have been getting plenty of offspring where misc becomes the dominant trait.

If they ever made it so that each misc traits adds a 5% extra chance for traits to be active at any given moment, then it would reward high AH skill without unbalancing the status quo in any major way.

  5. Is it intended that mules are faster than draft horses? Seems a bit unfortunate to me, since mules come in just one color. This would effectively reduce diversity. Of course changing it now would screw over the people who invested time in draft donkeys.

Wish there was easier way to track traits... on/off for a setting and pointing over creatures to show all that Inspect information, or at least needed for breeding like timers and traits..

I would kill a random member of my alliance for that.

It's obvious that I'm right and all of you are wrong, because I know best what features and rules of the game would suit me.

  8. That Enki post is extremely unprofessional, mostly due to its vague hostility.

"Make no mistake folks, I am very unhappy at all that has been transpiring, but know this,  I know you have been concerned about the lack of recent public updates, and all this doom and gloom is just a mood that people feel from time to time, public updates will resume when the Dev team are ready."

Ok, so all the people complaining about having to beta-test an ill-conceived breeding update are just being moody? REALLY?
Seeing the friends list displaying "offline" besides most people is just being moody? REALLY?

Regarding the treatment of Demona, I certainly don't condone harrassment! But also let's not forget to cast blame on the people who put her into the untenable situation she found herself in. They turned her into a lightning rod, and refused to give her adequate protection, since she wasn't able/allowed to answer most if not all of the pressing questions us players had.

And out of those 2% what 0.0005% would be interested in Wurm 😛

Fair point. VR users typically have high end PC's and they want to play games that look great. I don't see many of them being excited about loading up a 15 year old game with low res textures.

"Do you guys not have phones VR headsets?"

Underrated post. Adding VR support to this game? May as well add blockchain support. That is a popular buzzword too, which has little to no connection to wurm.

Seems to me going through the suggestions forum, and prioritising on popularity and ease of implentation would bring back more players than adding support for VR. Currently 2% of Steam users have a VR headset. TWO PERCENCT...

This is a great lesson in empathy!

One person is pointing out that it makes them uncomfortable, and I'm willing to bet it's not the first person, just the first time someone has spoken up.

Now all of the "people are so sensitive!" responses here are not made uncomfortable by it, but you also don't have ANY reason to WANT to keep it in.

Now you can gnash your teeth and complain about whatever, but having this removed has ZERO impact on you, but an impact on someone who is having a negative experience on it.

Don't complain about people being sensitive, support a change that helps another player have a better experience because it doesn't impact you in the slightest.

    Hear! Hear!

  12. Am I correct in my assumption, that the amount of traits that the parents possess in their dominant trait line, plays absolutely no role at all in determining how many traits their offspring will have?

I got to a point where I started breeding mostly 4speed horses and the outcome is just as irregular and crappy as when breeding 3speed horses.
Same with bison, breeding 4draft parents produces completely random amounts of draft traits on their offspring.

So it is all lottery now? No point in establishing a great breeding stock? Why? Can't wait to start breeding the horses with the rare speed trait...I feel I already know what will happen, they will produce completely random offspring, at which point I may just pull the plug on this betatesting breeding experiment.

Interesting about mules! I've been trying so hard with no luck to breed out the draft traits from my old 5-speed bison so I can test if they are any better than horses. I'll have to start breeding mules now!

I think I need find the will to grind out AH more (at least to 75 or 80) to see if that helps with getting better traits instead of 2/3 speed or draft and the rest being misc or output

I can finally provide some numbers on that. Adolescent 4 draft bison on a mostly empty ql 75 cart hit just above 20kmh and 16 kmh when the cart is full. I think I had similar results with 3 draft bison on a ql 50 wagon, about 18 kmh there.
