  1. Pvp is not for everyone and that's okay. I think the purpose of the thread is to let those that may have been slightly intrigued by the idea that it's not as scary as some make it out to be. It is EXTREMELY unlikely that you will get ganked or mobbed as soon as you portal through.

There are many misconceptions about pvp. On defiance, your affinities are completely separate from your pve affinities. If you die on defiance, you don't lose your pvp affinities. Really, I believe you only lose a small amount of fight skill and a TINY bit of body strength.

Myself, I love being a part of the kingdom and working together.

You know what, it never really occured to me before but you're right @Finnn, PvP has literally no PR going on for it and I don't just mean from official sources but not even from the player base. If you look at the forums, the only thing that comes up PvP wise is largely people complaining about PvP (rightly or wrongly) with some infrequent PvP kills posted (no context for new players or players to get hooked on PvP) and the even more infrequent recruitment "bumps" on threads. Optics wise the only thing a new player sees  of PvP is people getting upset which is an extremely bad look and anyone who might want to check it out has literally nothing to go off. No "current state of the war", no cool images, no smooth banter, no projects. All those things are present within the locked down discords of the factions, but not anywhere for someone to "glance in the window" and see. The only thing you can see is the PvE side of things.

I think there's an element of "being the change you want to see" and having more fun stuff posted on forums etc. JK raided the MR capital the other day which was awesome thanks JK for the fight, but where is that here? Did anyone outside of Defiance even know that happened? Did anyone outside of the main JK and MR alliance on defiance itself even know it happened? We didn't film it but we snapped a few pics, where are they but in the locked down discords? We could've had a post showcasing it and then had some mad banter with each other in thread, but we didn't. Missed opportunity and holding my hands up I didn't even think about it until this moment.

I couldn't agree more, @Zundy . A game that does a great job of this is Eve Online. I used to love to read about the battles that played out and what was happening between the varied factions. These stories give the player base a better understanding of what pvp truly is and how it works. There are a lot of misconceptions. It's not as scary as people make it out to be and has very little impact on the pve side of their game upon death.

Our stories should be shared and told. For example, no one will know about Bananas, the legend, who respawned during the JK siege the other day and rushed back out half armored; died again; then rushed back thru their line completely naked and unarmed. XD

I think given the outside world a little glimpse of the true pvp side of things would potentially spark interest in people who may never have had the thought cross their mind.

My Skills Monitor isn't showing any information as I gain skill. I've checked lots of stuff. Any ideas?

I'm having a similar issue. Skills monitor is only showing skill gained from "SERVERSCOPED:CADENCE". Nothing from Freedom. Also, no other server scoped servers showing in the list. So, I can only see my skill gained on Cadence currently.

  4. I've seen two main reasons people are against a merge of NFI and SFI.

The first is the economy; I've seen both concerns about drops in NFI prices and also being able to compete in the market with NFI vs SFI skill levels. Honestly, it seems a little selfish. NFI has already been around long enough that there are many super grinders with very high skills, so let's not pretend that "new players" have a drastically better position starting out on NFI. It really feels as if most of those against for this reason are the sellers wanting to keep prices high and corner the market for themselves; this sort of thing happens in RL as well.

The second reason I've seen is mention of NFIs "toxic" player base or that they have a "different mindset". I, myself, have not experienced this. Yeah, just like in life, there's some scummy people out there, but I've found it's usually pretty easy to avoid them. If the two did merge, no one would be forcing anyone to travel to one or the other.

The reason mentioned about the two different code sets is a completely different story. It would be great if a dev could go in to greater detail about if the merge would be technically possible as the code stands or if the code base differences are merely that they don't feel they should due to increased skill gain or rare rolls on NFI; I've seen this mentioned, but have we gotten confirmation that this is true?

  5. I think easing in to the season may help.

    - Phase 1: Leaves fall off trees

    - Phase 2: Light dusting of snow

    - Phase 3: Full snow (Snowballs)

    - Phase 4: Melt

Currently, it just goes straight to full on snow. I know it's only a few days, but it seems to stretch on forever. Due to the appearance of the snow on paved tiles (or any tiles for that matter), it makes it incredibly difficult to determine how your deed will look the rest of the year when developing/building new deeds/projects.
