  1. Actually, a server like the first Golden Valley would be a great, fun and fast experience - skillcap at 20, no deeds but can build towers (maybe lower guards fighting skill), people actually SCARED of bears, wolves, pumas, goblins! and the ocassional troll, spider, scorpion. Getting a trollslayer title was an absolute pride, and very few had it! Also I remember when PvP was allowed, and we had some fights on kingdom influence area borders. Of course the server was meant to be tutorial for beginners, but constant inflow of players and those limitations made it fun as hell! It even had an informal economy based on ql20 planks (at least on the southern part of the island).
  2. The problem is that. You can get to NV going around the island, and you can run into water in case that 20 greenish goblins jump at you. Amnesty road turned a bit dangerous lately. An d anyway, NV is a good place to meet and to start a living in comunity again I remember it being preacefull, beauty and nice place.
  3. NV seems like a good spot, as some of you guys are already around there, and I remember it being a nice place.
  4. I remember my first days in GV. It was just at the server start. First day, everyone was eager for Iron. I spawned in Glitterdale, when it was still a forest on the top of a hill. Looking down to the Glitter Lake, it was an absolute virgin image. No terraforming, no shacks, not even lava! So I joined a group of players who were talking in local about mining for iron. We went down to the lake west side. It was a nice forested beach, completely virgin at that time. We set up a guy to make mallets, another for cooking (food was also very scarce without fishing poles), who also joined with another for hunting down some dogs. The rest opened a hole in the mountain side and started clearing a big gallery for metal. We had about 10 guys mining there, and after 10+ mined tiles we found an iron vein surface. A good bunch of campfires spawned on ground, and we had to literally wait for an hour for the iron to heat on those! Also, some newcomers came around trying to steal our precious lumps. At the next day, I got news of a lot of people in that group forming an expedition to found a new town. Since I missed them and I could not contact, I just went to the Hordern place, north of glitterdale, under the hills, and found a bunch of people starting what would be the first "village", made of 1x1 shacks, random newbies and the mine Hordern opened on the hill side. It failed hard, so I moved around the forest and got lucky, finding the body of someone with an small anvil and a pelt. At that time, we had all kind of animals in GV (including trolls), and PvP and corpse loot was allowed. So I moved to the north part of the lake, where I saw a big 2x3 house, to see if I could join those prosperous pioneers. They also had a silver vein locked. I opened a hole to an Iron vein and started working on a forge. As we had no clay around, I had to walk to the sea and follow the coast towards S. That was the first time I saw bottleneck. It was completely virgin, empty of trees. There was an oak at the southern edge of the bay, and there were the first two settlers on Bottleneck on a campfire, it was dark night. I asked them for clay, and found it a while later. Got a large anvil after a lot of work, and then I got my sickle at first attempt, wich was all I wanted before moving to settle on a proper place. The guys of the silver mine never logged again. At that time, JK had larger population due to the fact that "default" option creating a character was to join JK. And we had no clay near our spawn point. So our population was sparse and spread. Then I got news of the first tower being built on the north coast by a group of decided MR players. I went over the big mountain north of GD, crossed it, and on the other side I got my first impression of Emmerald Bay (It had not that name at that time, that comes later). There was a tower at the center of it, there were no trees on the east bank, and there was only a small connection to water. There I joined Uriel, Obelisk, and later Cando, and also a good bunch of other players. We even had a fighter called "random", who later got a mail set and could kill goblins. The guys had a town in mind. They had a public mine with iron, zinc and copper, and I joined as gardener and healer/alchemist. I got ordered to plant a forest on the east bank for building surposes, as trees were too far awway from the tower area. West bank of the bay was inhabited by a champion scorpion and a bunch of others, so we never went around there, and guards had a very hard time fighting them. Yeah, we had guards, and that was the only thing we could use to settle on those rough and dangerous land, as they kept animals away. So I planted a maple forest, 200+ maples, that is still in there. I moved into Obelisk house as a guest, while the town was being built. We made some raids through the coast to the JK lands, crossing the later Brohalla tundra, wich was virgin still. We found a JK setlement near the east coast island, killed a few for fun, and then a champion goblin came around and messed with us. Was fun to fight goblins and wolved all the way to there. I got my Trollslayer title that time . But with time some people stopped logging in, I guess to return with their main characters, so only Obelisk, me and Cando were still left. We lived in a mansion over the bay, with the mapple forest at our feet, with also a lot of grape bushes for wine, all walled into a big garden. At some point, a group of newbies started a town on the northwest bank, and it started growing as a newbie training town. First we hated them, as they were breaking our peacefull lives and trying to cut our beautyfull garden, only left lemon trees on their bank. It at some point disbanded, after some chaos between them, confrontations, stealing and finally murder. They left an ugly ruin over there. Then I decided that I would plant an Oak forest on the north coast, hidden from woodcutters and griefers. I started roaming the whole Golden Valley searching for oak sprouts. There was no road connecting GD and FL and that time, the whole place was still virgin. I had to run multiple times from spiders, died a couple, found that there were more oaks on west coast. Once I got by mistake near FL lake, and got a nice view of that russian town (Bitardsk) and the tower they built. I once passed near Scorpion Stone and stole some coal they were making (never confessed this ). I saw the HotS lake even before there were HotS. It was at that time that we decided to call our small home "Emmerald Coast", wich later turned into Emmerald Bay, mouth to mouth. The name comes from the emmerald colour of the mapple leaves, well, the one they used to have. It took a long time to get my oaks to grow, and it was a very little spot. It got griefed multiple times. Life was calm and at some point Rolf decided to remove PvP. Well, we were still able to send our tamed bears to kill, but we could not fight directly. With time Obelisk stopped loggin, and after some time of boringness, moving around the island exploring, I decided to roam the lands free for a while. Bottleneck was at that time a nice fort, the russians just left their town abandoned, and there were some histories about Scorpion Stone. So I decided to settle finally, to join an stablished comunity. Scorpion Stone was proud of being the longest village on that time, so I went and joined them. At the start I kept my MR alignment, wich caused some troubles, but later I turned into JK. There I met a lot of good players. I specially remember the old town elders, Panic, Gradir, Dode, Delfos, Zetnore and all the newbies that were around at that time . I remember Gradir even had wine, and there should still be around a barrel from year 996 that was ql80+ last time I saw it. I hope is still around somewhere into someone's inventory. Those unique treasures from GV :'). I helped them a lot with the town, and eventually joined as elder. I'll make another post about Scorpion Stone, because it has a very long and nice history, and there is other people who participated of it . I won't extend much, we got the town grow up to 30+ people. There were times when we had 20+ logged in and working around the town. It fell abandoned once. We rebuilt it with a new shape (I still hold those screenies ). It grew again to decent numbers, but with animals over bears wiped, PvP completely removed, towers disabled, there was no more a lot of fun as it used to be. So people just passed to premium servers. We even got to premium, Melian is still on Wild server in HotS. Lost my sickle (yeah, the very one I made) in a raid to Homestead Bay. An old SS villager living there took it up and saved it somewhere. That sickle has a good old history, and hopefully is still named and around. I made another character called Melyan on GV, as I missed Scorpion Stone. With the unification into Freedomers, the appearing of New Dawn, and later the training academy and free moves to Freedom, Scorpion Stone finally died and, for me, GV died with it. I bet Rolf that Scorpion Stone sent more than 50+ new players into premium, and that some are still around. Now I roam free around the ruins of what was my best experience in Wurm. Only roads and flat areas are left, the trees and nature is slowly taking back what always pertained to them. Here the link to our old forums, where some history can be found: http://scorpionstone.50.forumer.com/ Here are a few more screenies of the rebuilt town and plans: An old map of the town before the reworking, in it's original shape:
  5. Bears!

Life was dificult at those 'ole good times! I remember when we first built a tower on GV, at the place now known as Emmerald Coast (first name was Emmerald Cove, but it changed from mouth to mouth).
  6. I think "Old an shriveled" trees should be bare or almost bare, to give more variety and all the ages covered now that we have different young trees.
  7. Hint

Screenshot or it did not happen.
  8. I got a pair of silver coins, but lost them when the DB crashed or whatever happened to it, that time when Golden Valley turned to Freedom. So never used it anymore.
  9. I know what it will be. Iron Cucumbers
  10. There is no issue, noone is complaining about new trees. Is just an in-game sugestion, people wants to get rid of olives in clear areas, just like they don't want thorns . Also, will be usefull in other places.
  11. Wich references? I only saw the ancient minoic double axe, what was a religious symbol like christian cross (any notice of crosses used in combat?). Apart, there are some woodcutting axes, from middle ages to current time, that are double sided, but you don't expect the tree to react and counterattack. Possibly, there have been woodcutting axes, ritual symbols, chairs, sticks, stones, spoons and a lot of other things used in combat. But no weapon designed for combat purposes had the shape of a double sided axe.
  12. There are references of double axes for woodcutting. That is right. But not for combat . Anyway, I'm not sure to wich degree ARMA are serious. They have no protections in their videos, what makes me think that they're making demostrations, or that they're not training about defending and killing your oponent. Feels strange, in some videos they use good polearm techniques, but in hand and half swords...
  13. Actually I managed to make a path of love tile when i had less than 15 meditation skill and no path started.
  14. We had a pair of love tiles but people built over them, and those are hard to make and find.
  15. I've made a post in Wood Scraps about this, so we can leave the thread for weapon models [i]http://wurmonline.com/forum/index.php?topic=31540.0
