  1. Personally, I used to do slayings all the time on the SFI but have hardly done any on the NFI. There's no actual point in question 1 that is of my situation.

The problem is, as much as I want to say the system could use an overhaul (which I do think it could), it's hard to really pinpoint what that overhaul should be. What would be the goal of the overhaul? Would it be to create more public slayings? Would it be to remove the desire for private slaying groups? Would it be to lower the value of scale and drake sets (which are expensive on the NFI especially)? Like what exactly do we want to achieve out of it?

We need to identify the problem (if there is one) before we can think of a solution; however, since this is such a contentious issue, it makes it really hard to actually pinpoint that problem. You are going to have the people from private slayings benefitting from those slayings likely wanting them to continue. You have people who haven't been in private slayings but might want to go to them saying otherwise. It's such a weird and unique mechanic in this game that has historically been associated with "greed". So then is "greed" the actual problem instead or is that something just naturally going to happen no matter what we do?

I'm sorry, but In disagree, that was not nearly enough. It maybe could have been before they came to situation that pitchforks are out because of it. If you know things are gonna get slow, announce it, reminds us as much as you can, if you know you ###### up, be open about it, so we don't become angry mob.

Saying we are looking into doesn't justify that update was a disaster. Don't wanna be rude, but have to put it this way, this game seriously needs some expirienced game designer because no offence to developers your game design abilities sucks, it's just adding random ###### just for the sake of adding ######. An honest what we messed up post and what are problems we are looking into from developers would be a good start, but I doubt they are capable for it. The things you are looking into are just gonna patch up some dissatisfaction that is already watered down by time(who is gone it's not gonna complain anymore, its just us few lunatics who continue to play this game untill we don't) untill the next disaster.

This requires some serious discussion of whats wrong with us, before "looking into". Honestly don't know how you plan to fix design so bad at it's core and planning it to be good without redoing it from the start

The problem with this mentality is in order to get to the place you want to get, steps need to be made. Things just aren't going to magically become how you want over night.

If we truly want it to the point where you are saying, then we need to encourage them when they start to head that direction rather than stomp our feet saying "IT'S NOT ENOUGH". Give them a door to enter rather than slam that door shut in their face when they try.

  3. "Deed it or lose it", while I fully agree with this to an extent and have even used this phrase myself, in this case I think it's more a decoy from the actual problem at hand: the areas where you can't deed. There is a point where deeding becomes too expensive and where do we draw that line between what's deedable or not? Are we supposed to deed a 200x200 area in order to prevent anything from happening or do we hope that most people at least have a sense of ethics?

Truth is, there has to be a line to where "deed it or lose it" makes sense, but then going over that line, common courtesies make more sense. We have all kinds of mentalities on the internet, from the "leet" pvpers who don't care if they make a moat around some random deed "for lols" to people who have a sense of community and want to help out every neighbour possible and everything in between. Trying to "enforce" such courtesies is really going to be nothing more than a nightmare especially when players of the types I just mentioned come and go constantly.

make it optional to show or not..

\- I'll just ignore that it exists and use gl-freedom as always

          \- problem solved

              \- everybody's happy

                   \- deal? - deal!

    Curious though: why the separation?

    What stops communication now?
GL is nearly dead at times.. and most of the 'internal' communication happens in 'freedom' if there's such..

How is nearly dead GL-Freedom annoying you currently?

It's mostly people on the old cluster talking in GL from what I've noticed, so I feel the extra chatroom would encourage more people on the new cluster to communicate.

I do agree with making it optional though. I think all chats should be and are really.

And who knows, maybe it's more well split in GL than I realise. It's mostly my observations I'm basing this on really.

  5. The idea is simple. I think we could benefit from having another Freedom chat for just the Northern Isles and one just for the Southern Isles. One could simply be called N-Freedom and the other S-Freedom.

I think having that extra channel could help in communication within each cluster. :)

I have no intention to be rude to you, but indeed fail to see your point. Especially higher craft missions tend to fail as OR described, sometimes also because of unrealistic numbers of rarely crafted items. Soloing missions is nearly never rewarding for craft or sac missions, maybe for traitor missions, most of them failing at least on SFI. Other missions can hardly be soloed. Just recently we had 37 deers to kill on Xanadu, and it took me days to find a single one fortunately trapped in a canal tunnel :)  (at least the mission was completed, one day before elapsing).

Generally, I see the point of the suggestion, and well, also a couple of problems. On the other hand, I recall how missions prompted me to craft things I prolly would never have started without, so it can be beneficial to do so. Also, I got in contact with other players inviting me to a "give to avatar" activity. It is not always about the reward.

That's fair. If I'm wrong I'm wrong and I have no issue with that. You're not being rude at all. :) I just didn't like the automatic "you're an idiot" responses people seem to like to dish out since apparently just saying why someone's wrong isn't enough. Even then, maybe it was my brain overreacting or misreading. 🤷‍♂️

A create mission gives like, 40 minutes of sleep bonus max. for it to be picking high diff items it'd be 5/7 or above on mission diff which means it's picking over 300 parts worth of items for the mission in total, and if its picking things that require 65+ fine carp he's not going to have a good attach rate. A crafter with 65 fine carp would more than likely be making things they can sell and buy sleep powder with instead of spending a couple of hours doing this mission by himself, or he'd just go kill a single mob/make an item for an easier mission out of the other 3 missions up, because they will get finished over time by other people. The hard mission will just sit there until it expires while people flock to the easier missions because it's a better time investment. Even on the old server the hard item craft missions often get left to expire due to nobody wanting to spend the time making them, so the "only high skill players get it" thing is irrelevant.

Thank you for at least not attacking this time (or not as much anyway).

The main issue I see with what you bring up is that sleep powder is expensive. However, (the right) high QL items are also more expensive too so perhaps it'd balance out? Also, there's a difference here between "hard crafting items" and "items that require skill" to me (and I agree with you on the hard crafting items), sometimes they overlap, sometimes they don't, but that's how I view things anyway.

So if a mission requires 65 carpentry you dont have but some do does that make those ppl hogging these missions lol? what about a missio "kill trolls" if i have solid 10 fs? what about mission that asks to donate to avatar near some deed i dont even know about but the other dude lives in it?

The hell you even talk about lol? Like oblivion said, noone sits on those missions - you did few items or whatever to get minimal contribution for your 30mins sleep and you wait for next one as there is absolutely no point to do any more

I didn't realise people were going to be so rude from someone having an opinion. Do you guys want a tissue? Are we able to have a conversation rather than some whinefest?

Anyway, I have seen people sit on missions before so we've clearly had different experiences with this. In the past couple of years, I've seen perhaps what you guys have experienced, but before that I didn't see it as much. I view the new servers as the time before the past couple of years. Maybe I should have more faith in people, but I don't I guess.

do you have any idea how missions work? you literally start the mission and get the full bonus. like if a missions is sacc 100 things you get the same sleep bonus if you sacc'd 1 or 100. all the missions that will be done constantly are "kill generic mob thats all over the server (you can use tower guards to kill anything and get credit)", "make x amount of generic item" "sacc x of generic item at 30ql (you can mail the items to sacc)", "bring item to avatar that spawns next to deed" "chop down tree next to x deed". pretty much all the missions require no skill to do, are infinitely respawning, and aren't worth the effort to solo. Literally anyone can do them lol

I've  completed a lot of missions yes, from seal killing to making foresters hats. I very well know how they work. I've even completed some myself, making your initial comment not entirely true. The missions vary greatly as I'm sure you know. Some are really easy others are impossible. Some missions will ask for items only a 65+ fine carpenter can make for example, which are the missions I'm more specifically talking about.

Even missions that require fight skill are going to be for a select few people at the moment.

  10. Just now, Oblivionnreaver said:

thats literally never ever happened in all the years of missions being a thing, soloing a mission often takes more time than it gives you sleep bonus so people usually just do 1% of it then go back to grinding, not to mention they respawn instantly after being finished so there's always 4 missions up

Then that's even more of a reason to wait probably since some missions will only be doable by a handful of people at this point. lol

Just wondering. What's wrong with just using a bed?

Pssh. If you grind 24/7 you ain't in a bed! Therefore, how are you supposed to have even more of an advantage over the casual gamers who can actually get sleep bonus! ;)

  12. My guess is that it would depend on the missions presented. Provide the wrong missions and the missions are then only completed by a select few people who hog all of the sleep bonus of it since no one else can complete them.

  13. Here's the way I see it...

Initially with this game you had Rolf and Notch. Eventually Notch of course left leaving almost everything being Rolf. Gradually more help would be brought in but it was Rolf in charge.

Rolf broke a lot of things, especially when he was by himself. Cave bugs would mine in ways that messed up caves. Horses would escape pens, etc. He promised things like bridge which took pretty much 10 years from initial mention to actual implementation. A lot of obvious bugs were never fixed during this time period as well. Player deities started showing up causing an imbalance of the game. WU came out causing a lot of the player base to leave for that. Just a lot of mistakes, in my opinion, were made throughout the longest part of history of this game.

Fast forward and Rolf sells CCAB. Now we have a team of players answering to another company. The experience of this team is kind of unknown but giving the benefit of the doubt at this point, it's at least a different group. However, as a result this group has been working on "fixing" a lot of the mistakes made when Rolf was in charge.

The real problem I see here is this game has some fundamental flaws from gameplay issues to bugs and exploits. I get wanting new and shiny stuff but I think there needs to be a balance with that. Fix bugs as well as add new ideas. Unfortunately, with the new ideas, not everyone's going to like it (for example, the fishing) and no matter what, someone's going to complain.

Simply put, it's not easy being a developer, especially in a 15+ year old game. ;)

  14. So unlike other people, I actually like that there are limitations to priests. I don't like what a lot of servers do in WU in having everyone be a priest with every spell. That to me just ruins part of the gameplay just to have an "easy mode", which I can see being great for some, but not for all.

I think linking should still be around for the servers spells such as ros as well as making things easier for lesser priests (to an extent). I love that spells like life transfer no longer need a link if you have 100 faith but still doable at lower faiths through links. I think that was a good move.

I agree with some that faith could increase faster, especially since almost the only way to get to 100 faith is through sermons (or probably a mentally taxing year of 5 prayers a day). While I like the idea for sermons as a social event, I think it's almost too forced for those that just want a 100 faith priest.

Sacrificing items I think could use a little more balance. I recommend NOT removing any of the existing items as you'd be screwing over people have already grinded those skill for favour. However, I think adding in new secondary items for sacrificing could help balance things out a little more. It's not really fair that vynora priests have to rely on cordage rope which is not even double favour since their sacrificing item of yoyos it just not worth it. I also want to say I am completely against Wurmhole's suggestion of completely removing the saccing of items and I think it would be a mistake to just have favour increase faster. This is still a game of grinding afterall still.

  15. Highway around Fool's Fief (will update as more is complete around me): [800, 710], [800, 705], [836, 705], [839, 708], [870, 708]

Note: Yes, there is a diagonal between node 3 and 4. The nodes shown are mostly cateseyed.

  16. Okay, I'm just going to straight up say, I can understand complaining about people changing steppe to forest. Complaining about a road though? Like we need highway infrastructure on this server too.

It could use better paving though.

  17. One thing I do have to ask about the economies: will they get be close enough for there to be a merge?

    1) Defiance is separate from the pve servers, meaning no hota statues through pvp will go to pve, no kingdom items, etc.

    2) More servers on the old cluster (at this point) means more uniques spawning and more slayings, meaning the number of scale, drake, and other items will just increase over time, currently at a faster rate than with the new servers.

Of course skills are going to catch up over time, but economy wise, it actually might not.

Whether or not you can enforce it, it doesn't change that it falls within the purviews of the technical explanation of what griefing is.

1 person has as much of a right to take all of the plots and ruin the experience for new players?

Isn't the whole reason you are opening cadence by you guys own words because there is no land available and that is the biggest complaint in the reviews? Shouldn't all players have a right to enjoy the game or have a piece of land?

The way I see it, there are 2 key things here you need to understand:

    1) If you own the deed, you have control over what happens inside of it.

    2) If you don't own the land, you don't have control over what happens. You can manipulate it, but you don't have full control.

Therefore, I act accordingly. When I planted my deed, I immediately created a big perimeter so I could expand it. It allowed me to get control of the area I want and if anything happens around it, so be it. If you expect people not to do things on land you don't own, you're likely in for a bad time. There are people out there who are going to be dicks. It's the same as in any MMO.
