  1. Well, which is it? Staying or not giving advantage/QoL improvement? It can't be both, because an uncovered wagon IS a QoL improvement that gives a gameplay advantage. This is one of those major missteps that really are irreversible. It never should have been a skin for sale - but it is. People have probably already bought it. Wurm is now selling improved usability of an item - pay to win, if you will. If the toggle-based switching on/off of the wagon cover is now introduced, those who paid money to have it will be disadvantaged because they parted with silver (for which they likely parted with real-world currency) to lock in a new visual for their wagon while everyone else would have the ability to gain the same advantage by flipping a switch. Basically Wurm has sold an advantage, and to fix it they have to give away an even greater advantage, leaving those who paid at a disadvantage. <slow ironic golf clap>
  2. I think high start skills is a good move. I would say balance it with low skill gain, but with starting at 90 that isn't really a consideration. Pure PVP but with permadeath is IMO a major put-off. If you play PvP your character is going to die. If the character is deleted, then there is nothing stopping the player from recreating a new character with the same name, so why not just have no non-drops so respawn with nothing. The character deletion could have an unintended effect of player A having character X and then when X is killed, someone else creates another character with the same name as X - people will think it is player A but it is someone else.
  3. Dragons were also called worms. The game isn't about dragons.
  4. Meh, a dry leaf to hang around my neck is not going to make me re-prem anyway. I don't think people understand that this stuff is cumulative - it is the sum total of marketing behaviour that is a little underwhelming for being other than it first appears. Images that look like they could be screenshots, but could never be duplicated in game give a flavour of bait and switch. "This week only" is technically true but at the same time initially misleading. It reminds me of real estate marketing. "Cosy home" = 1 room cabin. "Location Location Location!" = crappy house in good neighbourhood, whereas "Best house in the street!" = good house in crappy neighbourhood. "Close to public transport" = "Backs onto the train tracks". There reason those are memes is because that industry has earned a reputation for such behaviour. What reputation is Wurm is earning?
  5. Nope. That isn't a rebrand it is a rename and Wurm doesn't need one of those.
  6. I am speaking of PvP players. Many of those who are left are just about out of hope and patience, especially as they have asked for a way to get all the PvPers together but have essentially been told nothing will be done until everything that has already been announced has been completed (which is literally years of work at Wurm speed) and their discussion about it has been cut off as having "run its course". By the time the company spares any effort for PvP there will be so few left that the company will likely then say it isn't worth the effort for so few players. Self fulfilling prophecy - the entertainment world is full of stuff that failed due to decision makers ensuring it failed based on their expectation of it failing.
  7. ...and then AFTER everything that has been announced is finally finished, implemented and de-bugged, the 3 people still playing PVP will get some consideration. maybe.
  8. Alternatively, you could have little shop fronts for crafting "stations" with dwellings (bed, storage) behind them and maybe gardens/farm behind those. Not any more functional but a bit more like a mediaeval village would have been.
  9. I would recommend avoiding a large, single room "craft area" and make individualized areas. Naturally, a tavern/inn with refreshments and cooking facilities as well as beds for visitors. I recently set up a "high street" of craft areas. The village inn had a smithy attached and a mine nearby, so across the road from the smithy I built a long building with "bays" for various crafting - stone work, carpentry, tailoring, pottery, cooking. Each little craft area serves as a storehouse for the relevant materials and surplus products. Down by the docks there will be more storage sheds, a shipyard/boathouse, and a crafting area for fishing gear. Nice outdoor spaces might not seem functional, but they make the village much more inviting. I tend to centre a park around either the deed token or a fountain. Stables/barns for vehicles and draft animals - a yard for transport animals is also not a bad idea. If you want villagers to be able to have houses in the village itself, set aside room, perhaps even marking out or fencing off little plots. Signage helps, too.
  10. And this is what the devs call "exploration". Digging every 10 tiles. 🤨
  11. Come on, Devs. How many times does this have to be requested before something is done about it? We have had staff acknowledge it needs to be changed. We have had staff say they are going to change it. We have NOT had staff make the change. It seems like pretty low hanging fruit to improve new player experience, player retention and general health of the player community across servers.
  12. Yeah, I tried all sorts of creative stuff attempting to achieve this for the street my house is on. An actual curb would be good.
  13. Yes. The name of the maker should ALWAYS be the name of the maker.
  14. Erm. No. It isn't. I get what you mean about making things too easy makes them boring to some players - but one of the most popular WU servers to this day is very much easy-mode Wurm. I personally found it boring, but that doesn't mean I stopped playing WU - just that I found more challenging servers and ways to play. So, yeah, for some making it too easy makes it boring but for some making it easy makes it more fun. I personally don't think I would use something like your suggestion (but then again, I DID play Zork) but I don't see that as a reason to prevent others from having it as long as it is something that is not intrusive for those not wanting to engage in it. Give it its own chat channel and bob's your uncle.
  15. Can we please have link to that exact quote? Where Finn verbatim saying "telling people the truth is a bad idea." In those exact words. Or, edit your OP so it isn't a false claim. I know on your next line you say "paraphrasing" - but in which case you still need to edit the statement itself. You used the words "outright" and "said" and used quote marks. There are ways for you to express the same thought that aren't libellous.
  16. Okay, I can see the point of the board now. I don't like the idea of an auction house - and Eve's version of an auction house is massively overpowered by Wurm's setting, IMO.
  17. The problem would be that since WU updates stopped, modders have done a done a LOT to improve the WU experience and new updates will very likely break a lot of that. There are several modified servers where the code itself has been changed, rather than merely adding loadable mods. Restarting WU updates now will make keeping those servers going very difficult.
  18. I am trying to understand how going to this board in a single location to look through WTS and WTB listings is more convenient than having the same listings available in a chat window. The chat window has a built in time limit, as you only see what is posted from when you log in, and once a poster logs off they are not contactable, but to me that is a positive not a negative. If this was a message board, how to messages age off?
  19. Ah. I don't grind. None of this really make exploring any better. I didn't have those for a long time (except the full belly, mostly from foraging) and didn't feel the lack. But I also wouldn't have felt the lack if I had no deed stake. I am in two minds. I think it is good that it is provided so that is one fewer things a player has to "discover" in order to do a very important thing, but agree with the OP that for goodly proportion of new players, it won't be a realistic option to use early on so they will wind up having to craft a replacement anyway.
  20. That said, I didn't wind up deeding either. 🙂 My deed stake eventually decayed. By the time I joined a new deed, I had worked out that in Wurm it is the explorer life for me, and a home deed was mostly a base to store what I couldn't carry.
  21. This pretty much goes for me, too. I thought I SHOULD join a village early and it was the worst experience for me. I was much better off when I got on with solving things for myself. Then when I jointed another deed, I was a better equipped to handle the game overall. It is definitely different things to different people, and not suitable at all for some while being the "where have you been?" game for others.
