  1. This is the opposite of helping. New servers generate a spike in players, but then it drops off and the problem of too few players on too many servers is only worse than it was before. There is a saying "If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem." Spinning out new servers for eventual merge years later is not part of the solution. I agree about the need for consolidation and portability. Portability has not been something I could resolve in my head. A magic pack or something similar is a good idea for that. Or maybe a "land grant" deed stake (either instead or as well), based in some fashion on the deed that was broken down - have some silver value worth of deed purchase and upkeep wrapped up in the stake, and once the new deed is founded, containers full of the packed-up on-deed objects are delivered at the new token. Citizens of the old deed could be on the recruit list for the new deed - or maybe get some auto-invite. Regarding consolidation - I do think that the Epic cluster could be merged into a single server (region/kingdom issues would need to be resolved, but work has been going into that for Defiance, I believe). SFI has five 2K x 2K servers - four of which could be consolidated into a single 4K x 4K. Yes, there are massive issues with database consolidation, but that is where portability comes in. Consolidate the physical maps and use portability for all the non-terrain stuff. Instead of porting to anywhere, turn the deed token into a portal to the corresponding point on the new server, where the other half of a portal-pair exists, and the magic pack or land grant stake or whatever can be applied to turn it back into a deed. Who has made a deed and NOT had some regret about something they would do different? Maybe as part of the breakdown, pop a list of all the items (i.e. not non-packable paving buildings etc) that will be packed and let items be individually un-selected so as to leave them behind (e.g. all the abandoned carts and boats).
  2. My opinion on "should" has itself wandered back and forward over time. (And I must say "I won't be able to sell dirt to pay for my premium" is about the oddest con argument I have seen so far). I am probably in the "whatever" camp at the moment. I don't think NFI's market will slow down as quickly as people think, and I can't see SFI buyers taking part in that. I more think this is going to be decided by questions of ability to merge in the long run. Considering how long it takes for bug fixes and QoL fixes, undoing a code fork seem very unlikely. Actually, more even than ability to merge is willingness on the part of the owners/developers.
  3. WU has been on Amazon for years. An audio book which I believe is someone's account of time in WO likewise. Couldn't see WO itself anywhere on Amazon, though.
  4. It's also physical manipulation. Addiction is a real physical phenomenon and exploiting is highly unethical.
  5. That's a bit like saying if works in WO it can be made to work in WU. You don't know how simple or complicated changing it for pre-existing clusters would be unless you know what the changes are. Staff said at the time that the differences were not trivial and making the servers compatible for a merge would take considerable preparation. It seems like you are essentially saying "I have no real idea of the effort invovled, but I choose to believe it won't be much."
  6. But are those the only changes? I remember in the forum rare rolls were mentioned, but also mentioned was that there were other changes. We were told a list would be forthcoming, but haven't seen it yet AFAIK.
  7. How do you know this? What are the differences?
  8. 1. If the toolbelt will become a container, how many items will it hold? Currently that could be up to the ql (i.e. slots=ql/10, x10 saved toolbelts). 2. If the toolbelt is a container will items placed in it still be in inventory or will they be in the container?
  9. I don't know how to convey clearly that someone else being richer does NOT make you poorer. In fact, hanging around the rich has long been known to be lucrative. You would likely get richer. That said, the economies are still running at two entirely different speeds, so to me a merge would be disruptive
  10. I can't speak for NFI, but on SFI, generally everywhere that has events etc will have had a lot of work put in for deep water clearance and docking. To me, the knarr was really a great way to get exploring and go to places that aren't inviting whole servers over. It was basically my travelling home. Also, I sometimes do things the hard way simply because it IS the hard way. The "normal" approach would be to work up to either caravel or a knarr. Knarrs are in my opinion more useful, but caravels are the belles of the ball.
  11. Yeah, this is finally something akin to an exploration reward.
  12. Very welcome news. I do like the resource node work. Makes it more logical and less wogical. As to not dropping other works in progress - docks, when? Edit: Also, given how long "the end of next week" has turned out to be, I hope "upcoming months" is some shortish span of time.
  13. Sounds like a WU server. It seems that WO will not be getting any actual development work except skins for stupid amount of silver for the foreseeable future. Any suggestion that requires code development work is likely to either never happen or be "pay to play" content in some fashion. EDIT: Colour me wrong - development seems to have happened! I don't do rifts so will leave it to those who do to provide feedback on that.
  14. ... and as a result shut down Wurm forever by the end of the year.
  15. Knarrs are much more versatile than Corbitas. They are "more advanced" naval technology. It makes sense that Knarrs are the most difficult ship to make because generally a knarr is the last ship you will make. It can take almost twice the crew of a corb, is almost as fast solo and has almost as much storage, while having the shallowest draft possible. It is a much better ship than all except possibly the caravel (depending on your purpose). Nobody would make corbs or cogs (and few would make caravels) is the knarr was easier than them. Or they would make them and regret it. Yeah, that was me 😁. I read that you could start a knarr with SB 23. So I set myself a challenge and as soon as my SB reached 23 I started a knarr. So many trashed parts. I also made 2 or 3 sailboats from "junk" components along the way. I called the knarr "Thirteen 5" Because that was the skill gain while building it. I intentionally skipped all the big boats, because I set myself a challenge, but if you make all the components first, and imp those possible as high as you can, you will likely be able to make a knarr fairly early on.
  16. Yeah, their statements to investors pretty much say the plan is sell more silver to existing players by getting the players to spend their silver faster. Not that anyone has explained HOW Wurm is not profitable (it looks more like GCG is removing money from Wurm but can't be certain).
  17. I wouldn't expect Krister on the forum. That isn't part of what I would expect a CEO to do. However, Krister did say that sorting out the website was a priority and the community would be afforded a preview, oh, at least a couple of weeks ago. It matters not who announces it and directs us to the preview. (Likewise Krister offered to share Wurm Online financials, but nothing on that front has eventuated).
  18. Remember, GCG with it's new "direction" for Wurm was specifically telling potential investors that is was working on getting more money out of the existing player base. I would assume that is because they don't know how they would attract more players. This kind of locking up of the new content behind the shop is exactly what can be expected. The playerbase has provided all sorts of ideas for new and improved content, and now the company can release them all through straight up sales transactions. They don't care that this won't bring in new players. The don't care that this will chase away existing players. The don't even care if this puts the game into a terminal decline. What they care about is cash now.
  19. From a professional standpoint, you should probably know that this is @ss backwards. You should have at the very least notified Drogos of your intent - not just lobbed a name out in public and then put the onus on the person you named to approach you about it. Just. Wow.
  20. Wait, you are asking for COMMUNITY feedback but you can't be bothered asking Drogos for feedback? Wow.
  21. Don't mind me. Just trying to get my curmudgeon points in before the end of the month. Don't want to lose my card.
