  1. Oh I see what you mean. So Game Chest doesn't typically release info like that then. Interesting. I confess that I don't typically watch for anything on their site but I will from here on out for sure.
  2. Oh sweet, one of my favorite topics. There are seasons for both products and services and in that regard a budget might be altered to account for that trend but I've not seen advertising getting placed on the back burner, ever, it needs to be a constant focus. Likewise, for any business, there is no such thing as allocating advertising $ for other things. A business that does not advertise, does not succeed as well as a business that does advertise and in most cases, flat out fails unless they get incredibly lucky with crowd sourced exposure. But one can't run a successful business rolling the dice and hoping to get picked up en-masse, they must be proactive in their efforts to get eyes on the thing they are trying to sell. Are you referencing budget and if so do you know the budget set by Game Chest? If not then I'm not sure that you could make the claim that Game Chest is engaged in "big marketing" (unless you mean something else by that phrase). In most situations, any budget can be set regardless of the venue. Though some venues have expensive minimums, for example Hulu ad reps don't want to talk to anyone that is unwilling to run a test campaign for less than $100,000. But situations like that are rare and for many venues something as low as $1/day is an option. What matters more than the budget is venue-appropriate marketing and I'd venture a guess that mmorpg.com, while not the only choice, is still certainly a valid choice for WO. What if it fails? If a proven venue fails to convert at the standard conversion rate, then the problem isn't the venue, it's the message. But this is dependent upon it being the right venue for the market and most advertisers don't launch with their full budget until they've had some time to analyze the results using a smaller budget first. One more thing. mmorpg.com runs Google ads so anyone can literally plop ads on their site simply by targeting them within their Google Ads PPC campaign settings and clicks of that sort are less expensive than paid ads in the SERPS. And while it's true that sites running AdSense can block specific advertisers, this is usually only done to prevent bad targeting (otherwise they are losing out on earnings). I mention this because the article you linked does not clearly state the nature of how their space will be used for promoting WO, be it articles etc... or using Google Ads which will see ads all over the internet, not just mmorpg.com
  3. Does it dmg when used as a weapon? Can it be improved? Can it be enchanted?
  4. What are all of those items that look like mini deed tokens or sun dials stacked up on the table?
  5. It just gets in the way, covers up other items, and does not display any additional information that isn't already present within the inventory window. Pressing alt also does not improve the data unless you care about fractions of QL. There is an option to remove the outline in inventory items... but oddly there is no way to remove the infobox.
  6. Nice turn out with 22 participants and another warmaster kill. Not sure who invited all those ogres though. Can close this thread.
  7. I believe Sage has cleared at least some of them to make room for a safe pen and I believe that when the rift opens it will destroy any trees within the rift zone. But there is nothing to stop you from chopping them down before then for wood, skill gains, or to simply improve visibility beyond the rift boundary, etc. But people do show up early, for a variety of reasons.
  8. You already double posted. Now on your stream you are discussing whether or not to triple post and at what level you want people to spam chat about this. It's one thing to offer up a suggestion, it's another to try and manipulate people and exploit chat to your satisfaction. I wonder if you are familiar with actual issues that people have been waiting years to get fixed while you are preparing your people to spam multiple chat channels "over the next 6 days" as part of a campaign to get what you demand... right now.
  9. M17. Easily accessible from both the North and West road indicated by arrows in the screen. Rift is located in thick woods.
  10. I would like to see 1 of 2 changes. 1. For every 10 skill in AH, one random negative trait to be removed from the possibility of being bred so that by AH 80, breeders will no longer be breeding negative traits. 2. Or, for every 10 AH skill, the chance to breed any negative trait(s) be decreased by 10% so that by AH 90 there would only be a 10% chance of getting a negative trait and by AH 100, no chance at all. The exception being for related animals. At least this way, there is a reason to intentionally progress in AH.
  11. Good stuff. Pizza was 20.88kg and 97.73ql. A single bite gave me my requested affinity for 34 hours. After a few "bites" the time rose to 2 days...
  12. I stumbled upon the deed of a very well known Wurmian... known to help anyone that asks and for his specialized high QL wares. I was amazed by his deed because it was extremely frugal, small, simple, remote, and unassuming. Essentially a small cabin in the woods with a small fenced-in yard. I know this doesn't sound epic, but I was still amazed.
  13. I like the idea of using wax to preserve items used for decorations and I also share your opinion above. I think that in order make it a reasonable addition that some restrictions would have to be applied. Off the top of my head something like a display limit... kind of like the limits placed on how many animals can be cared for. This would not necessarily need to be a limit on how many waxies can crafted and stored, just a limit on those displayed (this would also help to mitigate the costs in lag). Animals could further be limited by requiring a large amount of wax and with a QL requirement. And a champion should require tons of high QL wax to the point of preventing seeing tons of them littering the landscape just in case someone wanted to use all of their wax slots for a dozen champs or something. Want to display a champ? Cool. Want to create your own version of the famous terracotta army? Not so cool.
  14. I thought this suggestion was going to be for taxidermy alone but this is much better than that single usage. I would give more than 1+ if I could.
  15. This guy showed up looking for leftover Christmas meals in the kitchen of my Xanadu deed. As you can see, he heard someone else snacking and that brought him in. Just look at him with his nose in the Larder.
  16. Not sure what prompted this change but just a fair warning to anyone that might not be aware, if you disembark your vehicle on an arched bridge then you may need assistance to embark again as I did.
  17. You can remove Paw's Rest as it will be disbanded within the next 24 hours.
  18. I daresay that most gamers understand the very common monetization aspect of free to play with premium options since freemium has been around for software since the 80's. It's literally free... if the player decides so. John: "Are you hungry?" Mary: "Yes but I don't have money." John: "Here, have a cooked fish, it's free." Mary: "But you're eating more fish and with a side of greens! Therefore my cooked fish isn't free." 🧐
  19. The population in general fluctuates on all servers. The retention rate on the new servers will no doubt be low due to the fact that Steam brought in a lot of new players and it takes some time for those players to decide if Wurm is the right game for them. And we all know how niche Wurm is. But the retention rate may look even lower than it really is because a lot of players that hopped on the new cluster still have deeds on older servers with older characters that they like to play. Also consider that vets here take long breaks so it may look like quitting to some. But in WO it is not uncommon to see someone take a break for 3, 6, or 12 months. Sometimes even longer. A deed next to mine on Xanadu has been claimed for 6 years and I think the owner might pop in once a year or so for just a short while (for example, although it could be an alt too). Many vets recommended deed upkeep paid in advance for 2 years to safeguard their claim even if they decide to take a long break. I myself jumped on Harmony knowing full well that I would need some time to decide whether or not I preferred to stay active on the new server, or my original server and after having played Harmony and then taking a 3 month break (a short break in Wurm time) I've decided that I prefer Xanadu. So in my own example, I've contributed to the decline in population on Harmony, but not Wurm Online as a whole. Essentially, Wurm for many players is a "seasonal" game. This includes some players that have quit already thinking they are done only to find themselves thinking about the game a year from now and then returning to find their deed disbanded, yet willing to find a new spot anyway. Subscription As for the subscription model, it's a proven model and works well to keep the doors open. It's the money that keeps the machine running and even though we're fans of the game, WO is still a business and I hope that it continues to be successful... for entirely selfish reasons. It's not the best news for anyone that can't afford it, but after going premium just once, you can rest easy even if you let it expire knowing that you can still keep a deed for as little as 12 silver per year and if that's too much, one can play for free and construct buildings that will still protect your items as if you had a deed... I don't know of too many MMO's that give so much for free the way WO does so if I were one of those guys mentioned in another post that lacks the money for a pay to play game... then I'd be sooo happy with WO. If you want to call that a demo, that is fine, but let's be clear... it is a demo that never expires.
  20. I've seen lots of small off deed pens sprinkled about here and there but what gets me 🤔 is when I see off deed pens with large herds of like 30 - 50 inside... Doesn't that block other spawns nearby with the latest spawn mechanics change? Every deed is a spawn blocker so people need to go off deed in search of farm animals to bring home, when those off deed sites are empty partly due to large off deed filled pens, and it's especially annoying when you see a handful of dead animals inside indicating that someone isn't even active enough to make use of the dead. I wish non-aggressive mobs could spawn on deeds, would help to resolve some issues. It's not an issue on Xanadu but an issue on the new smaller servers for sure. But at this point, it seems like every change to solve one problem with spawn mechanics introduces another problem. But yeah if you're lucky enough to find or breed an appaloosa, silver, or ebony... you don't want to waste time getting them branded and secured on deed otherwise you are basically dropping x amount of silver on the ground... off deed.
  21. I didn't see Wurm getting butchered, I just saw a confused new player using his editorial account to vent. Wurm has a steep learning curve for new players, that's part of what makes Wurm so great, because achievements here are truly earned, as apposed to achievements in many other games, which are tossed around casually and easily obtained... that's what many gamers are used to now; games that are inviting for the masses, Wurm is inviting to a much smaller niche that can appreciate her.
