  1. Chopped his own trees. Crafted his own planks. Made handles for his own tools. Made his own house from the above. Looted clay shingles from a disbanded deed. Forages, hunts, and fishes for food and mushrooms. He even made Lingoberry Jam.
  2. I know this is a long shot but worth a try. Both horses were gifts and cared for by Hawkseye, he no longer plays but his IRL brother can login to verify if needed. The two horses are: A Male Bloodbay named Southdream A Female Ebony named Huntingfabiola They were lost from the Hammer Lake area and not currently branded so I cant track them but manage animals indicates that they are both hitched. They were both 5 speed so I believe they would both be 4 speed with the newer system. I'm willing to pay the standard market value for both plus an extra 50c as a thank you for returning them, that would be enough to buy 3 horses of the same traits. I don't want them back for their usefulness, I want them back because they were gifts. There was no theft here, I had a bug that prevented me from playing and I lost both of my deeds while gone so I don't blame anyone for snagging them and I would be grateful to travel and pay to get them back.
  3. The concept is similar in nature to the locate lost animal feature that works when an animal is branded. But in this case, it would apply to any item via a 'tracking' rune. The idea is to use the rune on a players most prized possessions and therefore a limit on how many tracking runes can be used might be in order. A secondary feature might be to have a built in buy-back feature for the item that the Rune is attached to. Back story. This is not my idea but my neighbors (Nodie) and I agreed to post it. I was not able to play due to an odd bug in which I could not remain logged in for more than about 30 seconds. After having recently purchased a new PC, I tried again and was able to remain logged in. However a year passed and I lost both deeds along with most of my stuff. I mentioned that looting disbanded deeds and discarded items is part of the game and that I'm fine with people having some of those items (better than if they decayed away) but that there were a couple of items I'd be willing to buy back from the current holder... if only I knew who had it. Usage... if similar to tracking lost livestock, then it might require much effort. On the other hand, if tracking identifies a player, then that could make it much easier but could also lead to an altercation because not everyone agrees with the looting system (although the slower livestock method could also lead to the same, but just take more time to reach that point). If used to identify the person that holds the item (them or a container owned by them) then it could also be useful for villages in which multiple players have similar perms. However it could also be useful for simply finding items that a player has misplaced and has not necessarily lost to another player. Some measures (if possible) might need to be included to prevent the rune from being used for a witch-hunt.
  4. So is this at the deed named Bruce's Flying Circus?
  5. Yes it was such a large turnout, especially when compared to the previous. I guess a decent a time combined with it being the weekend contributed to that.
  6. Yep, I could not (still can't) see it. What I see is this: Maybe if you stripped everything after and including the ? then it would embed.
  7. Looks decent. Much better than when I was attempting a map back in my WU days. Elevations were particularly challenging to make look right and so my maps ended up being pretty flat... too flat. Images will appear in the post when inserting a URL to the raw image. I.E. with a URL that ends with something like .jpg or .png. Most people use imgur or something similar since they don't ruin the image with a watermark. Your map for example:
  8. The way things are going, they will probably add all of this and still not fix how AH is broken.
  9. Related comment in a more recent thread: I'm not sure why it needs to be a "complete rework" but that language seems to translate to "no, it's too hard" even though I don't think a complete rework is needed over something like a formula change to reduce the chances of getting a negative trait as AH skill increases.
  10. I didn't think a formula correction would require a complete rework anymore than inverting faith's impact on prayer; both are formula changes right? An edit of the trait formula to allow for a decrease in the chance to breed a negative trait as AH skill goes up would suffice as a quick fix. For example, decrease the chance to breed a negative trait by 1% for every skill point in AH so that by AH 99 there would only be a 1% chance to get a negative trait. Or this could trigger every 10 skill points for a 10% decrease which is effectively the same, but with different ticks. Since those values already exist, no additional mechanics would need to be introduced to the game and then breeders would no longer be penalized for improving AH beyond the 43 - 50 skill level. It's nice to know it's on the list (is there a link for the list?) but at this point I'd have to say I lack confidence in ever seeing it get fixed whether it is a formula fix or a "complete rework" because it seems that improvements have higher priority over fixing broken skills. I mean, the post I referenced in my previous comment was from 2017. 😑
  11. I just want to know why (and how) prayer/faith edits are here a month after suggested when AH is clearly broken and people have been asking for it to be fixed for years. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that people spend money on alts for priests and keeping AH broken means more money through Fo Alts.
  12. Yup, that's been happening since 2006. Don't new account holders get a nice discount that includes both premium and silver?
  13. Having played off and on from 2017 - 2020 I've been diseased once. But in January 2021 I've been diseased 3x so far. Two of those instances was while driving a large cart. In this last case I was on a large cart paving in a straight line with no one else around. My understanding is that the two horses pulling a cart are on the tile ahead of the player.
  14. Despite the 30 minutes of downtime announced just before the rift opened and then a group-wide DC during the (2nd?) wave, and a small group of 8 participants we still managed to get through it without any deaths. 😂 Good job and grats to all.
  15. And in case you missed it. There is something special about this rift. 1/21 2021 P21 Starts 21 minutes after the hour
  16. Center of P21 and easily accessed via the highway that splits P21 as indicated here:
  17. Steam user here and I dislike it. I typically use Steam if that is the only way that I can play a game or if I've been given a free key. Steam is 1st: an advertising platform and 2nd: a gaming platform. I'm also not a fan of the need to have multiple accounts to play a game. For example, a Steam account, a game account, and a 3rd party account (like rockstar gaming for example). Sadly, that does not say anything about the attitude of the gamer though because what I see a lot of is this "I have to have it right now and if you make me wait too long then I quit" attitude and in my opinion that is juvenile at any age. I'm sure that Game Chest is aware of the fact that an attitude like that can result in a quick influx of cash though and probably even moreso from an impatient player. But having a customer that sticks around for a long time and paying for a sub is probably better in the long run. I didn't see anyone writing off steam though, just pointing out both disadvantages and advantages. This entire thread is mostly speculation. I would be interested to see the demographics for MMO gamers, survival sandbox gamers, and gamers exclusive to steam though. I agree that more of the right type of advertising might work and by that I mean highly targeted. Promotion via Steam is casting a wide net but pin point advertising can be better depending on the cost per conversion. Of course there is a range of options between those two as well. I've often thought that targeting people that were interested in CoE might work because many of the "never-before-seen" features listed for that game were identical to features already present in WO (and done better in Wurm). I was convinced that WO was the primary motivation behind the feature list of CoE and when I commented about this casually on their forums, my post was deleted. And now that there is a lawsuit against the team behind CoE with a huge loss of faith by early backers, there is a group of players that probably contain a higher % of individuals that would be interested in WO when compared to a broad cast campaign. They can be targeted via PPC ads for both the SERPS and web pages using a phrase like "chronicles of elyria"... though I would start with a small budget and low bid to get some feedback first.
  18. Yes yes WO needs some fixing (broken AH being my biggest complaint) but I agree that we should address those reasons for low retention. Can we start with a small list? 1. The general juvenile attitude of gamers using the Steam platform. 2. The need for instant gratification. 3. Lack of patience (okay I cheated a little here, this is the same as #2 but I like a good list). 4. Unwillingness to discover a game as apposed to having someone else do the discovery first and then getting mad because they had to read a wiki. 5. The tendency to move with the crowd to the next popular title never to return to an "old" game. 6. The lack of spectacular animated combat sequences to impress the world (and a nice global announcement to refresh the ego as well "Whane defeated old diseased spider with his running spin-kick staff to the spinneret". Of course those that have stuck with WO over time didn't suffer from any of those issues. I think most players understood that Steam would be the top of the conversion funnel and over time a much smaller niche group from steam would filter into it with most passing out within a few months and for the same reason Wurm has always been that way... But the reality is, we can't determine the value of advertising without know the cost per conversion, how that conversion is defined, and the average income relating to that conversion.
  19. And yet we still see growth campaigns for MMO's like WoW and Eve. It all depends on the campaign goal. There are roll-out campaigns to introduce a new product or service, there are growth campaigns to increase sales, there are retention campaigns to bring back previous customers, etc... A site like mmorpg.com is good for all 3 because the venue is well matched to the game but hopefully they have a diverse campaign that does not utilize that website solely. A common mistake new business owners make is to think they only need to advertise at launch and then sit back and wait for money to come in. Look at iconic companies like McDonalds and the Coca-Cola Company (I know it's cliché to use them as examples, but I'm feeling lazy atm), both are bad for your health, and yet both are successful and despite being successful, they both continue to advertise. The same is true for any business, assuming they want a chance to remain in business. But I've seen plenty of businesses fold prematurely, because they thought merely existing was good enough.
  20. That would be nice too. At least something to repair the disparity between skinned and skinless weapons though because having weapon y left out feels bad. I started looking around for that staff of the land because it looks cool but it is apparently very rare and anyone that has it is probably not going to let it go even if they are not using it and even it they did let it go, it would cost way more than the value of 4500 marks.
  21. So the list of skins here is all that is available right? I realize those are the skins available with Jackal points but these are the same skins you get with marks? Will new skins for other weapons be released? It seems there is nothing for my chosen weapon (staff).
