  1. Okay, thank you. Additionally - does sweetspotting ruin your parent skills and potentially characteristics and even your entire account? I have never and will never sweetspot (honestly I barely even play anymore) but I just prefer to understand ###### even if it has no relation to me personally. Not asking you in particular Lisimba, just querying the populace. Many thanks.
  2. I would like it if wetas were not breedable, and very rare and only obtainable through exploration. You get one, it lives, it dies, and then you have to get another one. Through exploration. Edit: So also you can't care for it.
  3. What the hell is going on here? If somebody could summarize this thread with minimal to no snark they'd be my hero. Actually any amount of snark is fine as long as purely informational content is included alongside. Purely informational meaning explain like I'm 5.
  4. I can't say I haven't had this thought, mainly because it's very hard to come up with any other explanation of why stuff like this doesn't get fixed. Especially since it's not the first time the issue has come up--I also suggested it back in May 2021: It seems like it would be such a quick and easy fix to make--am I wrong about that? Is there more to it than just making a simple edit to a line of text? The only other reason I can think of why it hasn't been done is just that it's not considered at all important, to the point where maybe it's just not something the devs are even aware of perhaps? Either way, it's a really bad look. Practically the first thing new players see is blatant misinformation. And (as far as I can fathom) the reason for this is either: a) Nobody cares enough to correct the misinformation or b) The misinformation is intentionally left uncorrected in order to advance a shady hidden agenda. I dunno, is there any other potential explanation for this that I haven't thought of? Seriously asking.
  5. Me too. And Wurm hasn't seen much of my wallet lately.
  6. Jackal 2 when?

Me! I am totally with you. Jackal was amazing. Starting from scratch, with absolutely nothing; wandering around foraging and rummaging for the most basic materials to make crude tools (finding a branch or a rock shard was like winning the lottery); everyone crowding around the forges, crafting armor and tools and weapons; setting off into the wild on foot...the sense of adventure was one of the most compelling and memorable experiences I've had in this game or any other (with the only real competitor being the launch of NFI). I miss Wetas the most. They were so much fun to ride, and oddly endearing despite the fact that they were basically just enormous bugs. In addition to being able to climb 50 slope, I recall them being exceptionally fast, but the wiki page does not mention this...am I just imagining things? Anyway, if we can't do Jackal again, I wish they'd at least consider bringing wetas to the current servers. Seems like such a sad waste of an existing asset. For those unfamiliar, this is more or less what the "starting from scratch" experience was on Jackal: https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Guides:Starting_with_Nothing ) Here is some general info on Jackal and the new mobs and resources we found there: https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Jackal Info on wetas (with a pic): https://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Weta Maybe the devs also ended up thinking "why bother" since all anyone could do was ###### and whine about Jackal while it was actually going on. The prospect of going through all of that again may perhaps be anti-motivational. Except we didn't get a starter set on Jackal. And if they do ever reboot it, I sincerely hope that aspect won't change. There is not much point to Jackal if they're going to just hand us everything for free like we're a bunch of incompetent dunces. We might as well just stay on Wurm. In the beginning only a few people could get pelts so yes, they were expensive, which frankly is as it should be. You had to WORK to get a pelt early on. You had to be willing to take risks. Otherwise you had to be willing to pay, or you had to get by without one. And the longer you went without, the sweeter the moment was when you finally snagged one on your own. This all seems right to me. Prices dropped as time went on until eventually there was basically no market for them at all, IIRC. The allure of Jackal, for me, was that it was more challenging, dangerous, and difficult than my ultra-comfortable, ho-hum life on Wurm, at least at first. Six months was almost too long, because by that point everyone was established enough that the experience wasn't that different from regular WO. So yeah - Jackal was awesome. Hope they bring it back but I'm not holding my breath.
  7. IIRC, a few years ago there was some talk about putting something like this together, but it fell by the wayside for one reason or another. At this point it is unlikely to happen, as the focus seems to have shifted almost entirely to attracting and retaining new players. Us old players are probably not going to be much of a priority, at least for the foreseeable future.
  8. So maybe we can just ignore the community ratings and base our opinions on what the person has actually said, rather than on some dumbass number generated by random people clicking stuff. And if we disagree with someone or think they're a bully, we can use our words to say why. This is how the world used to work all the time, long long ago. It was glorious.
  9. Okay, I appreciate the response. I hope that if/when new software is considered, this issue will be part of the process. Many thanks.
  10. Concerns yes, experiences no (not counting this thread lol). See my post above on how to avoid having to include huge text blocks in your post without editing the actual quote itself. I'm writing this post using that technique. Maybe, maybe not. I think that those among us who read threads carefully tend to assume that everyone else does the same. But there are probably people who don't thoroughly comb through every single post, and could entirely miss any unmasking-of-vile that goes on. I have no problem if someone summarizes/paraphrases what they think (and/or want others to think) I've said, as long as it's clear it's not what I ACTUALLY said. Also I'm not looking for a rule on this issue. In my ideal world, it's technically possible to make quotes un-alterable, and someone in authority puts that into effect. Strangely, I am certain none of this will ever happen. But I dunno, sometimes I feel like I just have to say a thing for the record. Can't help myself.
  11. Even if decency is common, it's never universal, here or anywhere.
  12. You can quote a portion of a larger text block by selecting only that portion. A popup with a "Quote selection" button will appear. You may need to do this more than once if you need to quote more than one part of the larger block, which can be a bit of a PITA, but imo it would be worth it if it meant that misquoting others would no longer be a thing.
  13. Ketchup is highly underrated and unfairly maligned. Yeah I said it.
  14. We shouldn't be able to misrepresent what someone else has said by changing quoted material in forum posts. Some may say it's "obvious" that the quoted writer didn't actually say the fake quote, but it's clear that this is not always the case. Some readers have less of an ear for irony and sarcasm than others. And even a sophisticated reader who is only casually browsing a thread might end up misinterpreting a misquote and wrongly attributing it to the OP. But even in the most seemingly "obvious" or "innocent" of cases, the simple fact is that nobody should be able to put words in someone else's mouth, period. Not to mention that the ability to misquote could potentially be used as a destructive tool by those with malicious intent. --- (I'm guessing this may not be the right forum for this suggestion, but I couldn't find a better one. Please reposition the post if necessary.)
  15. I strongly agree with OP here. Not really going to say much more about it, because I don't think doing so would change the outcome. This train appears to have left the station for good. It's just a rather large disappointment to me to see the game changing in this way, and I had to say at least that.
  16. Also the shoreline...although not every shoreline maybe? Not sure. I've heard this too, now and again. Pretty sure there is a particular spot in Haven's Landing where you can hear it, or at least there was once. It's intriguing. No idea. Maybe if we keep a list here in the thread of places it can be heard, we can unravel the mystery.
  17. My problem with this whole "knowledge" issue is that gaining the knowledge is a process that is outside of actual gameplay, for the most part. Having to keep track of calendars and rift sites and deed locations and the like is non-immersive and--more important--boring. You should definitely have to put some serious effort into finding a unique, but not that kind of effort. It turns the whole thing into an unexciting administrative task, which in my opinion is the opposite of how it should be. Ideally there would be no way for anyone to predict when or where the spawn will happen. I have zero idea whether or how that could be accomplished, but in my dream world that is how it is.
  18. Finding white-dotted flowers for the first time, after years of playing, was one of my most memorable moments in the game. This kind of experience is a huge part of why I love exploring. I want more of it, not less. If white-dotted flowers had been as common as every other flower, that moment would not have happened for me, or for anyone else.
  19. Will our data be collected, analyzed, and/or shared, either now or in the future?
  20. I've even come across a few that are unlocked on one end but locked on the other, so you have to retrace your steps all the way back to get out, and then attempt to go around. And going around isn't always easy because some deeds extend all the way to the water line and/or a mountain. Fun times. These are the moments when my pipe dream of a server with restrictions on building and terraforming burns extra bright. And yes I know such a server would change the game to the point that it wouldn't really be Wurm any longer, but I still wish so much that it could exist.
  21. We need more transparency around all current rules, processes, and mechanics related to uniques. Many (if not most) players are more or less clueless about how they work. At least some of the drama and toxicity around the issue stems from this ignorance, and could be curbed if we were to attempt to combat it. More important, getting everybody up to speed on the topic could help more players get involved in unique hunting, leveling the playing field to a certain extent at least. I’ve been wanting to post about this for a long time but I kept putting it off because I didn’t have the time to put into constructing a detailed and polished suggestion. But I want it off my mind, so here are at least some of my non-detailed and non-polished thoughts on the matter: 1) Create a separate, optional in-game tutorial on unique mechanics and etiquette, along the lines of the fishing tutorial. 2) When a player encounters a unique, a pop-up window appears with information about potential next steps (how to claim it, how to initiate an impromptu on-the-spot slaying, etc.) This pop-up could also potentially just be the tutorial I mention above, but I see the tutorial as all-encompassing, while the pop-up would be more concise, covering only the information that applies to the situation at hand (e.g. something like spawn mechanics would not be relevant here). 3) Create high-quality text and video guides covering topics like spawn mechanics, how to claim a unique, how to pen it, how it will behave before and after it is penned, how to organize a slaying, etc. Ideally these would be created or sanctioned by devs/staff, or at least devs/staff would have significant input into the content. Player-created content could possibly be good too, but the potential for spreading misinformation would be a concern. These guides should be on the wiki. Players should not have to weed their way through the forums, picking up tiny bits of information here and there, not even sure that what we're reading is accurate because it's some post from five years ago by a random person who may or may not know what they're talking about. (I know this one is a long shot, but I figured I’d just throw it in here anyway because it would be awesome.) 4) Also a long shot but whatever: Create an easy, accessible way for players to “practice” dealing with uniques somehow.
  22. There's no denying this thing is pretty darn cute. There's also no denying that it is 100% out of synch with the vibe and the atmosphere of the Wurm world. I understand that people like cute things, and I don’t want to rain on that parade. Hell, I like cute things too. I still smile and say "awww" whenever I see a foal or a lamb in the game. But some cute things, like foals and lambs, make sense in the game's world, while others, like teddy bear backpacks, do not. I feel like it might be wise to draw a line, or at least make a compromise. Like, if something this out-of-place absolutely must be be brought into the game (and honestly, I question the necessity for it at all), maybe make it a stationary, decorative item that will only be seen indoors for the most part, rather than a wearable that rides around on players’ backs slaughtering immersion left and right. Devs, I beg that you use caution when tinkering with this beautiful, wonderful world I've come to love and treasure so much. Many thanks.
  23. I can relate to this sentiment, because I often feel this way myself. But in this particular case, I think the concern is misplaced. OP went out of their way to be respectful of others' views and playstyles, to an extent that I rarely see on these forums. The proposal was thoughtfully constructed to allow those who want to use pens to continue to do so, but in a way that also addresses the concerns of those who are dismayed by the effects that current rift pens have on the landscape. Everybody wins. It's a great idea imho.
  24. The poll was a sham from the start, its main purpose being to create a veneer of acceptability for the inevitable, railroaded result. I'll add to what I said in my previous post that I find it curious that votes had to be cast publicly here on the forums, instead of through the typical anonymous voting format. I'd imagine there are quite a few lurkers out there who declined to vote because of this, especially considering the highly confrontational tone of this thread. I'd also question whether a poll is the appropriate way to decide the issue, even if it could somehow be conducted in an entirely impartial manner. But it's done. There's no undoing it. I wish we could stop talking about it because it's just depressing at this point. I've previously defended NFI against accusations of selfishness, and I do still believe that it's best to avoid judging the many based on the actions of a few. But I'd be a liar if I said this whole mess hasn't made me think twice about the whole "NFI is toxic" mentality. I thank and commend all those who fought for opt-in.
  25. As long as we assume there are 14 deed owners on Cad. Edit: And as long as we assume everyone who voted is a Cad deed owner.
