  1. I can't install CCC at this point, because I'm not (and can't with Wurm) using the HP factory driver, but I can run the game at absolute minimums *somewhat* smoothly now... It seems like the over-frequent loading of tiles in the game causes a lot of spikes... even if the devs can't figure out how to get OpenGL to play nice with graphics cards, they could probably mitigate a lot of the issue by adding the option to reduce how frequently the game updates and loads new tiles. For instance, even if the game lags horribly every time tiles are loaded, if they only load every 5 tiles walked, the effect will be less frequent, and the game will play a little smoother. Until the devs get a quick fix like this in place though, I'm still stuck playing "realistic-minecraft". At least I can play. Probably going to go premium sometime in the next few days.
  2. I managed to get my card reinstalled late last morning (if you know what I mean), and it seems to run normally again, lagginess ingame and all... never thought I'd see the day . I'll try uninstalling every trace of the drivers I can possibly find... I've heard deleting C:\ati\support helps aswell. Restart, install, and see if that works, try a new combination. They got rid of steam locomotives in the 1950's because they were ornery, moody and expensive to maintain... later, they found out the brand new diesels were just as much of a pain in the arse, but in different ways. Technology will evolve through the years, but in the end, it will eventually piss you off just as much, no matter what, period. Sorry about being pissy and all the last few (all) posts... I've been getting consistent 4 hours of sleep and on an irregular schedule for some time now... I'll try some of those things and let you know when I can get back to my computer for a few seconds For now, tyVM for the help... getting pulled away from the comp again.
  3. Also, any advice on reinstalling my graphics card would be appreciated.. Uninstalled it in Device Manager in a desperate attempt to install CCC. Running on integrated now. I'm f*cked.
  4. At this point, nothing I've tried will uninstall version 12.8 of ATI Catalyst, so if there isn't a fix for this, then I don't have a choice... I can't play the game, period. SOS
  5. I've been having crashing errors with ATI Catalyst 12.8, so I tried downgrading to 10.8 to see if it would stop the crashes that started after I upgraded, but I can't seem to install anything but the latest version of Catalyst. The 10.8 installer only seems to install 12.8, no matter what settings I use. Any tips or advice? HD Radeon 6770M Edit: I reinstalled the factory HP driver for the card, and it still gives the error. a System Restore attempt later, and it still yields this error.
  6. Tried installing Catalyst 10.8, but the installer would only install the latest version, 12.8. I'll post more in that thread.
  7. Running Java 6.33, and I'm not sure which Catalyst settings you're referring to... =P
  8. Hey there, I installed Wurm a few days ago, and have since been trying to get it to run on my rig... It's been running absolutely horrendously on any settings I try. Specs are as follows: - Windows 7 64 bit - Core i5 2.4Ghz with hyperthreading and TurboBoost - AMD Radeon 6770M, 1GB - 8gb DDR3 RAM - 760GB 7200 RPM hard drive The hardware normally has absolutely no trouble handling any game at almost any settings I can throw at it... Guild Wars 2 with extreme settings, Gmod with the works, TF2, blah blah blah. When the game is running, my CPU holds at about 40% on all threads, my GPU is stone cold, but the program just refuses to play nice! I just tried updating my GPU driver to Catalyst 12.6, and it suddenly stopped launching with the error "LoadLibrary failed with error 126: The specified module cannot be found". I'm guessing I'm going to have to roll that back now, too? If I were to go the the length of reverting to the old driver, what else would I be able to do to make the game run without freezing or lagging for up to seconds at a time every time I turn the camera, or cross a tile border? I'm running all absolute minimal settings as it is, no effects, VBO disabled, etc., what more can I do? [rage warning, skip to end] Pardon my insolence, but it seems the better and newer the hardware and software, the worse Wurm seems to run for any and everybody with Radeon cards... Will this (huge) problem ever be addressed? Downgrading Java to install the client... downgrading Catalyst to run it... being forced to use settings fit for an integrated chip just to run the game on a decent card with intense lag? I'm sorry, but if somebody can't provide some answers for not only me, but everybody else out there just as maddened, I'm afraid it's just not worth the trouble to keep dealing with the game. Nothing personal. [/rage] -Machine-
  9. Resolved: It seems the Java Control Panel settings may or may not have had an effect on the installation process... The issue with Java 7 should still be looked into for new users... finding out you have to go through an ordeal of uninstallation and downgrading to play a game is a real turnoff.
  10. Just found this game the other day, tried installing it. I was running 7.x, so it came up with the usual 'stuck' error. I installed 6.33, tried to run the link, it asks for a program to use - selected JP2Launch, nothing happens. Ran the autoinstaller for Java, it installed 6.31, tried to run the link, it asks for a program to use - selected JP2Launch, nothing happens. Checked Kaspersky Antivirus logs, nothing related to Wurm, or Java in the last two months. Reinstalled 7.5, came up with the 'stuck' error. No Wurm client, directory, or crash logs at this point. What am I doing wrong? -Vista version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601 64 bit - Intel® Core™ i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2401 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) -Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB -Radeon series 6770M (if it matters in the slightest) Firefox 32 (which means I use Java 32) I don't think installiing 6.33 X64 would accomplish anything at this point, as Windows 64 is reverse-compatible with 32 bit Java. keeping my temper in check for now, any advice would be appreciated. -EDIT: Java 6.33 for 64 bit also gives the exact same 'stuck' error. This really looks like a cool-as hell game, but I really can't say anything more if the installer won't even run. -final EDIT: reinstalled 6.33 for 32, and 64 bit. 64 bit freezes like 7.5, but it looks like 32 bit des _not_ have a default directory to execute the java link. So that leaves the final question: What am I supposed to use to launch the file, when I have 32 bit 6.33 Java installed? The play buton on the site downloads the file to the Downloads folder, but then doesn't appear to do anything after that. Excecuting the file after that prompts you for a default program to run it with. So far, nothing I've tried works... Java Web Start crashes just the same in 6.33 32&64 bit as it does in 7.5 32&64 bit. Disabling Kaspersky Antivirus also has no effect, it acts exactly as aforementioned. Something's just not right here... I'm completely out of ideas as to why the client refuses to run, unless the java launcher/client/Idon'tevenknow the site is giving me is corrupted. EDIT #3: I had an internet friend with a good connection a few thousand miles away try to download and install the game, and he had the same issue with sticking.
